Ever meet one of "those people"? You know, the kind of people that for whatever reason, you absolutely cannot stand being around or interacting with, no matter how hard you try? Unfortunately I've found one person who just rubs me the wrong way most of the time, and he just has to be in the same Linkshell as me.
The LS I'm in is actually great, full of very helpful and friendly people and I love being in it, but this one player, I just can't stand him. So many qualities of a bad player that I just don't like, all combined into one person. He doesn't seem to want to do anything on his own, and complains about things he could do fine by himself, but demands help on. Around level 24 or so, he decides he doesn't want to be in parties anymore because of bad experiences with them. He refuses to get in a party, refuses to try soloing for any bit of experience, but complains about how he isn't leveling like he wants to. Same with farming, he has no gil for new spells or equipment, but doesn't want to farm for it, or fish, or do anything to earn gil.
Eventually he finally gets around to getting into parties, after most of the linkshell talks him into it I think, and he gets up to level 29. Eager to get to 30 for advanced jobs, like I'm sure most people are the first time they get there (I know I was) he was extremely upset because he was at something like, 1000 tnl and couldn't find a party that exact moment. I suggest that he go solo for exp while he waits, but he doesn't. He's a red mage, they can solo EP if they know what they're doing at that level. I know because I did it myself. It's not hard to get 1000exp soloing, although it takes quite a bit longer than a party, it's very possible, and it's much better to solo for little exp than complain about not having a party and getting no exp. After like, an hour or so of asking the LS to powerlevel him (with no one around that's capable of doing it...) he starts to demand that someone do it. All caps, something along the lines of "SOMEONE PL ME".
He finally got 30 though, I don't know how, but started doing his job quests. Understandable, that's the first thing I did after hitting 30. He's asked for information on some quests and, although I find him extremely irritating, I try to be helpful. I've given up though. The few quests I've tried to help him on, I've had to repeat the details to him 2-3 times, even simple things like "Bard quest is activated in lower Jeuno in the tavern right past the AH". It's really bad, the linkshell is supposed to be helpful, but having this guy around completely kills my urge to help people. I just find it extremely irritating to try to help people and have them not listen. I can understand needing to repeat details once or twice for the whole quest, but repeating "go here to start the quest" is a bit annoying, because it's very simple information, and needing to hear it more than twice just shows they aren't even trying to pay attention.
Of course, I could be biased a bit, from my first encounter with him. Listening to his rant about how he's upset that the Red Mage in the game isn't built the way he intended his character to be, and then insisting that his dad -created- red mage... Sure, it's possible, but highly unlikely. Could also be that I find people that demand things in all caps really annoying. *shrugs*
So... Anyone else have any of "those people" they've had encounters with? Hope this post here wasn't in a bad place or not allowed. Just needed to vent about this and couldn't exactly put it anywhere else.
