Sup,

Decision time on my part. FFXI is getting kinda meh, everytime I log on I feel like thiers a list of chores I gotta do, It's simply no fun for me anymore and my hopes and dreams are never gonna come true cause simply it will never be like the old days (pre gil sellers and 90% of people wasent greedy pricks)

I been looking into WoW and thinking of joining a pvp server. The idea of a giant pvp cluster f*ck seems enjoyable to me. I just wanted the opinions of the people who play it of whats its like. Are thier nm's and such and the huge raids i see on the pvp serves are these a common things? Basicly im looking for newbie info of the ups and downs of the game

There aren't NM's as such, but there are elite monsters, that are like normal monsters to people 10+ the monsters level.

I have yet to see a giant red yet.

I switched over a couple weeks ago, and so far here's my total nüb take!

Lvling is a way faster process than in FFXI which is cool.

Mobs actually drop usefull things for your lvl, with noteable frequency at times.

Once you start leveling in contested areas, the other faction WILL try, and quite often succeed in killing you, but you can give as good as you get.

There's no death penalty unless you agree to use the spirit healer, the more times you ressurect with her the longer the ressurection sickness, think weakened in FFXI.

Crafting is a far less tedious process, main crafts can compliment one another, but as you go higher, like your skills, you have to pay a trainer to learn your recipes.

but the biggest thing for me, in battles you don't just sit there and swing your weapon, there's always micromanagement that can be done.

I think I covered my bases :D

WoW is ok, but way too quiet for me. I'm in a guild of about 30 former FFXI players(about 60 with alts), and there's still barely any talking. Raids aren't a constant thing, but they've been a little more common since the honor system was added. You'll know when a raid is happening, because your connection will go to SHIT. You don't walk into a raid, you lag into one.

Gold is so easy to get it's ridiculus, but then you don't really need it, since all of the good gear is soulbound(rare/ex). If you want to make the most gold, only do the gathering crafts, mining, skinning, herbalism, fishing. I've never had less than 5 gold since I was level 10, since it's so easy to get.

One thing I seriously dislike about WoW is the restrictions on race/class. every race can be a warrior, but that's the only job that's for all races. It's basically as if SE decided that Tarutaru couldn't be ANY form of melee/tank, Mithra couldn't be a BRD/BST, Galka/Elvaan couldn't be a mage, and Hume just couldn't be anything for no reason; which I think limits the game.

cool thanks guys mostly likely picking it up today when im outta work.SE is pretty good with content updates ands ect hows blizzard with that sorta stuff? Also whats the badass jobs and such? Are servers overfilled with certine jobs? thier servers I wanna avoid joining? after reading i'm liking undead (looks mainly) and job of warlock, from my understanding its harder to level than most jobs but in the end is it rewarding?

WoW compared to ffxi...

well there are NMs they are called Rares.. they spawn like 8 hours apart tho and a really random.. not much of a way to camp them. also they dont drop some uber godly item they just have a higher chance to drop a rare than a normal mob.

exping compared to ffxi is much diffrent.. its all solo you kill stuff nonstop for hours on end usualy averaging at about 40k exp an hour if you know what your doing. (play music or somthing youll go nuts if you dont)

MONEY!! omfg money is so easy to make in this game it makes me cry but thats not a bad thing IMO. there are lots of stupid people in WoW who dont grasp basic concepts so they dont know how to make it. but also all the good items in the game are BoP (bind on pick up... you cant sell on AH or trade once you use it your stuck with it..) you get them off bosses in instances ect..

to warn you though this game is 90% made for lvl 60s before that... its ok but yea.. Blizz did add battle grounds so that there are lvl capped fights from 21-30 31-40 41-50 51-60 but thats basicly the only mid lvl events for low lvls.( the mid lvl instances are gay, pretty much all the good ones are at 60) But! geting lvl 60 isnt that hard so yea.

some more tips.. PvP servers... are really REALLY hard to grind on considering all grinding areas are pretty much in contested areas... and there are lots of fucking assholes (60s that run arround and gank ppl 30 lvls below them ect..) IMHO PvE is the way to go, with the release of BG thats where all the PvP is now and you can exp without getting ganked ^^

also on 90% of servers the horde to alliance ratio is way off in favor of the alliance.. except on like two servers like stormreaver and burning blade.. or burning legion cant remember. www.wowcensus.com will let ya check it out.

but anyways the game is pretty fun you have a free month to test it out if you dont like it go back to ffxi ^^

p.s. dont pay atention to WoW forums its pretty much all a bunch of whining 12 yr olds
(i know i made so many spelling errors, bad punctuation ect...)

I can log on for an hour say, hey I wanna quest and EXP and guess what, an hour later I have gained a nice chunk of EXP instead of saying, ha ha I need to free 5 hours in my schedule to even THINK about exping in FF XI.

Its fast its fun, you can solo, you can group, you can quest, you can pvp, you can do alot of things.

Crafting is oversimplified and next to everyone does it so there is not any noticable profits. The good items all drop in instances, and there are always people wanting to do those.

There is a disprapotional Allaince to Horde on EVERY server but like 1 or 2. That being said I find this makes the horde be triky oponents, they work together far better then the Allaince does.

Also Battlegrounds are fan-fucken-tastic, though if you continuely are grouped with the same retards it can get old.

In FF XI I always felt young, I am 18 almsot 19, in WoW I feel like a descrepit old man at times. Alot of younger players, at 10 and 11 MOST of the servere pop tends to leave.

Be warned though... If dieng multiple times in a zone conteseted zone to some undead rogue cocksucker will piss the hell out of you, then a PvP server is not your cup of tea. (Me I hate those undead freaks, do not mind other deaths... Just undead rogues who have a speciale analy rape the warlock button)

All being said I realy prefer WoW, the storyline is ALOT deeper IF and ONLY IF you where into the other warcraft games, I get ALOT out of seeing things that I played in the games or read about.

Uh oh^^ warlocks have a hard time? I was planning on being one >.<

Warlock is a tricky job that takes skill, I LOVE it. But sadly we are rogue's (undead rogue in particular, they have an anti-fear ability) wet dream on a PvP server. They go stealth form as you and a pet is fighting a mob and are not paying alot of attention sneak up, do cheap shot. You are down about half your health and are stunned at this point and they are behind you. You are dead about 3-4 seconds after. In PvP we lack a "I win" button like many of the jobs. At best we have 8, "Press these and hope to God this works" buttons. I would not consider another job though, it is a blast and we are badass endgame if done right.

Ugh.. You know what.. I've had it with threads like this.

There's nothing bad being said in this thread (unless I overlooked something) ....but god damn people... If you wanna praise WoW go to their freaking forums and praise to your hearts content.

This is not a WoW board. Why the hell am I reading about WoW?

I do not care about WoW. I will never play WoW. Why?

Because, I am playing FFXI and enjoying it still and you know what, when I do decide to leave FFXI (whenever that may be) I won't be going to WoW. My roomates play it and I could care less about it. Some things look okay, but I can tell it just isn't my kind of game.. so on that note..

Take this crap and put it somewhere else. It sure as heck doesn't belong in the General Discussion part of a FFXI forum.

I am so sick and tired of seeing WoW this and WoW that on this forum. If you like the god damn game so much go praise it on thier own god damn boards. You want to talk about WoW well there's this little area that it is atleast somewhat alright to do that.. it's called Off Topic. WoW has not a damn thing to do with FFXI.. so please do those of us who still play/love/enjoy FFXI a favor and talk about crap that has nothing to do with the game we're playing in the section of this forum that it's okay to do so.

What? You don't think it will attract as many people because its not on the General Discussion board? Aww... <>That's too bad.<>

And if you're leaving FFXI for WoW, I have no problem with that. Thing is, that's all you need to say. You don't need to carry on your opinions badmouthing the game that I and many others are still playing just because you stopped playing and went to a new game.

So.. you're having a good time in WoW? That's great, it really is. I'm glad you're able to have fun doing something. I don't however like that some people feel the need to let everyone know that they think WoW is "so much better" that is not a truth, that is your god damn opinion and you can quite frankly keep it to yourself or take it somewhere where people give a damn, because I don't. I'm tired of hearing it.

I'm tired of checking Quetzalcoatl Daily News and seeing WoW threads. Why am I seeing WoW threads.. what.. the WoW boards aren't good enough? Jesus people.. really.. common sense <>Do you have it?<> Obviously not. Respect for the people still enjoying FFXI.. <>Do you have it?<> again.. obviously not.

Here's a thought, why don't I go to the WoW messege boards and starting talking about FFXI and why I think its so great. Or maybe I could talk about the game and how it plays, and oh... even debate about the differences. Yeah that's it!

No, I don't think I'll do that. Why? Because that would be freaking stupid. So... Why the hell are you doing it here on our boards?

I don't get it.

This is the said cluster fuck. Happened last week.

We have an all FFXI guild on Deathwing, you are more than welcome to come. Contact Falsey or Dirgesong for membership!

Well here goes some info from my past playing WoW to starting over again.

If you don't play on a PvP server you aren't really getting the full aspect of the game and it severly cuts down the fun factor. As for the giant raids I was in a guild of about 80-120 people on at once and we'd raid Instances non-stop or branch out sometimes and take over horde towns. I experianced 0 lag ever. Your CPU performance and how good it is will be the key factor to raiding choppy or raiding like a champ :)

As for NM's yes but they are called "Boss" mobs. Elite mobs are kind of like NM's but meh there are no long waiting timers on them... they are simply just quest kills and are hard to kill at the current lv the quest is given. They don't drop anything special usually but a quest item. Now back to the "boss" mobs. These are put in instances and often drop some very nice equipment. You don't have to camp them and you don't have to worry about them being up, they are always up. The main thing you have to worry about is how will the drops be and will you have a nice roll. There really is no form of "NM" like in FFXI.

Now to exping. When I first played the game upon its release there was alot of times where you'd have to stop questing for a lv or two here and there to grind. However, upon my return I was told they added so many quest there is no reason to grind now at all but it still helps to do it and farm. LVing on a PvP server is the best for you never know what's going to happen from one min. to the next and what challenge will be around the corner. I love PvP though and welcome any and all fights however, it may be different for you. Sometimes you'll have a sliver of health left and a Priest or Lock will come by and DoT you for the win, or you might get just straight ganked by some group but all in all it's humerous and adds a lot to the game and its fun factor.

Now to game life after XP (60+)...This game does not stop at lv 60. There are rewards to gain, TONS of items, and alot of fun to be had. Since a few weeks ago battle grounds opened up an epic battle (think war, defend your tury type deal) and capture the flag. These were just two of the BG's there are many more modes and areas to come. Molten Core <3 <3 <3 'nuff said. The game begins at 60 everything up to 60 is just a preparation for what's to come.

Ok now to give you content update info. Blizzard isn't actually really good at this. They procrastinate really bad and you never really know when something will get implimented but rest assured when it's in it's badass. I haven't played (before my return) in 6 months and within that 6 months it became a whole nother game with tons of new content. This game has been updated with content more than FFXI in it's shorter lifetime. I think they have bigger plans and also the devs and gm's do actually care about the players in this game. The download method they use sucks but patches can be gotten from mulitple sites making it easier and usually faster to imply patches.

I would like to add also, there are still game bugs but this game is still fresh and they have greatly reduced them since day one. The only ones I can think of now is sometimes you get stuck looting, often when you die in certain areas you get transported to Hijyal (sp?) which is a zone in development atm, and some lag between trade transfers or selling to NPCs.

Overall this game is very enjoyable and very fresh comming from a game like FFXI. After seeing how they plan to keep updating and adding like they have in the past 2 weeks I'm never going back ot FFXI to further waste my days. The community for MOST servers that stick around are usually much more mature and for sure people are more easy going here than in FFXI. You'll be amased at how big a change in people it really is. I hope you have fun and much luck. Also, anyone who says the game is to easy never made it very far in the first place so pay them no mind  They are just to proud of a game where pressing the same macros over and over , killing the same mobs over and over, and ultimatly doing the same thing over and over, if you get what I mean  , is better or more challenging.

Good luck

GTFO then N00b. He asked a question you don't like the thread don't post end of story. Don't like people talking about WoW here <>that's to bad<> get over it. FTL

As for what I bolded you wouldn't do that because you know you'd come back with yer assbleeding. They will rip you apart for even taking part in the game. You'd just get pwned all over judging by the cute post you made here.

Yeah, I'm with Ecks's post. I'm getting tired of seeing a new "WoW rocks, Xi sucks" thread at least once a damn week. If you like it so much, stay there. Maybe I should go hit the WoW forums and make some threads about how I left WoW for XI, and say how much WoW sucks. But then, I'm sure I'd get flamed to hell by all the "mature" WoW players.

Heh.............
To make things a little more clear for you, perhaps the reason for asking this on a ffxi boared, read by ffxi players was to get a real non biased opinion on the subject matter and the opinions of my friends on this board.

So a few people in thier response stated they liked it over ffxi...... big deal, Flame them on the flame board not the thread

Also please note on the main forum index
"General Discussion
anything that doesn't fit somewhere else"

So yea I have my right to ask this here. If I want to talk about another game I have the right to and If the admins dont agree then its upto them what content is allowed to be posted here

Man.. I'm not picking on you in particular. I have just had about enough of people talking about WoW on this board. You can take this like a flame if you want to, that's fine. Your post just happens to be the most recent example of what I am talking about. Poeple are going to read it, because its currently at the top of the board. What I posted is not limited to just your thread but many others like it. As.. I stated in the beginning of my first post on this thread.

I'd love to use your own quotes against you.. and so I will because its fitting.
Also please note on the main forum index
"General Discussion
anything that doesn't fit somewhere else"
Alrighty then. See that bottom line, guess what. WoW crap has nothing to do with FFXI, so that would mean its not on the topic with FFXI. Oh.. guess what else.. There's an Off Topic board for things that don't concern FFXI.. oh and look at that.. the index even says that. See:

Off-Topic
non FFXI related posts go here

Now, before this really does become a full fledge flame. Perhaps you will think a bit more on what I have said. Is that not clear enough for you?

"Off-Topic
non FFXI related posts go here "

I must apologize, I've have never noticed that befor so i'm sorry ecks

I'm also tired of seeing WoW topics  there is a page called "Off-Topic" i dunno why this is in FINAL FANTASY XI Gerneral discussion[/b]

Wow takes more skill to play than FF does. I'm sorry to say. If you talked to me a month ago, I would bite your head off for saying that to me, but I found out, it is a lot more skill intensive. No battle goes the same way twice, no matter what you do.

You can be fighting off 2 mobs and a Horde/Alliance ganker at the same time. I have to admit, getting ganked sucks, but then when you see a lowbie 20 horde priest in the wrong side of town, you feel compeled to send him back to where he came from .... hell.
