I don't see what the problem is at all.

Can you come up with a reason why people shouldn't post to old threads?
It dosen't bother me at all.

Maybe I'm bored at work and I go surfin thru the old Off Topic Threads and see somethin that I want to respond to. Why make a new thread when there is already one there?

If you don't want Threads to be Necro'd, the Admins should just do what Cubs did to the other thread titled "Thread Necromancy . . ." and lock all the other old threads for no good reason, too.

Because if someone was a jackass/noob 18 months ago, it doesn't mean they still are. People who don't pay attention to post dates might believe the information to be current.

That just gives said jackass/noob a chance to make amends for said post.

The best is when the said jackass/noob bumps up their OWN thread and tries to defend crap no one remembers/cares, when most likely the person who even made the thread doesnt play anymore.

Bigboys thread necromancy = funny.
All other necros = not as much.

Or... what if another person is just reiterating what happened 18 months ago is happening to them now... that would just reinforce the behaviour.

If people aren't smart enough to pay attention to the post dates, well, that's their own fault.

And there really isn't that much of a problem with it... you get:

"Omg, we've talked about this already..." or "This is going to be another 14 page thread" or "yo, this has already been done."

in the new posts anyways...so I don't see why it would be a problem necromancing an old thread. By the time a thread hits page 10, it's rarely on the original page 1 topic.

Here's a wild and crazy idea.....

Instead of thread necromancy....just post a link to the original post and put your comments with it.

I can read!!"

Hmm....that doesn't seem to be too hard

I was under the impression when I first joined QCDN that the flameboard was anything goes so to speak and now topics are being locked left and right. I personally disagree that a lot of threads should not be locked at all since I think this goes against Sculli's original intent with the board. At the same time, certain things should not be allowed and need to be deleted. I think if the topic pertains to the same person repeating the same mistake or perhaps continuing an old discussion, then there is no reason to lock the thread. However, if its one person's wish to continue a dead topic in the hopes of getting attention, to attack a person who has changed/paid for their mistakes, or to just be an ass, then by all means lock the thread.

I think thread necromancy is a grey area in what I considered to be an appropriate descision to lock the thread. You may have joined to late, been unable to discuss in an old argument or produced a different idea that may further add to an old argument. But someone might also necro an old flame about someone being a gimp player and the person acknowldged it and has moved on. In this case, there was no reason to necro the thread and you are just trying to get attention/harass that player.

And posting a link to the old thread is sometimes annoying. Having to search through two different topics to talk about the same topic to me is just pointless. Its just easier to keep the old thread alive then to lock it up and start a new one. I also find that locking threads that are off topic to be annoying as well. They may seem off topic but the topics probably have common reason for being in the same post. For that reason, the original on topic posts probably contributed to the off topic posts and closing the whole topic usually ends the off topic subject which I sometimes find interesting and entertaining and I am sure others do as well.

I just think it's funny when people go into the 2nd+ page of old threads and reply to a 10+ month old thread where someone asked for help of some sort.. I've seen this happen at least 20+ times.

I liked how the FB of old was conducted... I miss those days... Sculli had a policy of don't delete a thread, you should move it to the appropriate section. I think I said sh!t in the GD section and the whole thread was moved to the FB. That was acceptable. I just wanted to comment on that since no one else seems to remember old times. :D
