I have some odd views. I think as soon as someone violates the law, they should lose all their rights until they are caught, depending on severity of course.
Like if someone broke into my house, if I hit him as hard as possible in the face with a shovel, I'd get in more shit than him. In that case, I wouldn't think it wrong to break their legs and kick them out on the street and lock the door.
Now where they can lay charges on you for defending themselves, there's something wrong there. If I were a judge and someone told me that you were attacked by 2 people, which you then beat the living snot out of and made them eat through a straw for a month, I wouldn't have any sympathy for them because they provoked you.
It's real bullshit.

In this case, I'm completely on Meeze's side. I think the real debate is where the line is for adequately defending one's self.
One image that comes to mind is that scene in American History X where edward norton forces the black man to open his mouth and put his teeth on the curb and then stomps on his head, killing him.
If two guys--any race--came to my house to jack my car or hurt me and mine, I'd have no problem with overdoing self-defense. I'd rather go to jail for overdoing self-defense than seeing my wife die, get raped, and knowing in the back of my mind that I might have been able to do something about it.
And as to why this topic turned political, I blame the conservatives. :roll: And in this case I'd be right in pointing the finger.

Well, I doubt the whole plane was stuffed with liberals, so this isn't a liberal v. conservative issue. But yeah, I aggree, people these days are pussy.
Japan has the same problems (where I currently live in case not noticed). One story that took place a year or two ago is of yakuza (gangsters) breaking into a house and murdering a family and the neighbords didn't do a damned thing. Did they hear the ruckas (sp?)? Yes. Did they do anything? No.
I like to think that in America, we'd react differently, but I think the whole world in general has the idea that somebody else will take care of eveything for them.

That would be self-defense regardless of you kicking the guy in the teeth "posing no threat." The way it works is if they start it no matter the time they are still considered the threat until away from you. If you loose the case locally drag it out. You could also bluff appeals and probably win the rule in the end because they probably have better things to do in LA I'd think, no?
