They're coming out with a Thundercats movie.

As much of an inappropriate crush I had on Cheetara, I can't say I'm all that excited about the prospects of this THUNDERCATS movie they've announced today. Apparently Warner Bros., sniffing the stink of success that's wafting off fellow 80s cartoon adaptation TRANSFORMERS, has optioned a THUNDERCATS script by Paul Sopocy and are planning a big-budget, live-action film. I'm hoping this is just WB snapping up all the cartoons I've ever watched as a child (they're also the ones behind HE-MAN) and nothing more. Don't get me wrong - I love me some Thundercats, but I can't say I think it's gonna make a good movie. I mean, really, this was a movie about man/cat hybrids. A movie about giant robots is inherently going to be cool. Man-cats? Not so much. I just don't know how you adapt the Valley of the Snarfs into something live-action without being completely ridiculous. Of course, I could be proved wrong and THUNDERCATS could be the next LORD OF THE RINGS. But my gut instinct tells me that the WB should just let this one go.

I remember a time when announcements like this made me all giddy and stupid with glee. Now, everytime I hear the phrase "oh man, they are making a (insert childhood cartoon) movie" I get sad. And not just sad in the pants, sad in the brain. That's real sad, yo.

What possible reason could they have to make a Thundercats movie? Don't get me wrong, I loved that show when I was little. I had eeeeeeverything from Cat's Lair to the Thundertank. When the dvds came out two years ago or whatever, i bought those too.

When I watched the dvds, it felt like I was watching something I'd never seen before. It was the most boring thing I have ever sat through. I couldn't believe it. And now a movie? If I have to watch Brad Pitt play Lion-o, I am throwing out all of my action figures, and killing my inner child.

I heard they were making a Masters of the Universe sequel as well. Fucking Hollywood.

And apparently, a Teen Titans one, as well.

"Studio's recently been bitten by the nostalgia bug, pacting with Joel Silver to produce a live-action "He-Man" movie, based on the toy and cartoon franchise, as well as a feature based on the DC comicbook "Teen Titans," a junior Justice League."

dude...if you have the figures and crap still....i will so buy them from you. i loved those toys....

What the hell. They need a She-Ra movie. She-Ra is awesome.

I hope this movie ends the debate on whether Thundercats have 6 nipples or not.

lol I had a similar experience one afternoon when I ran across a rerun of the old "Land of the Lost" TV show. I was appalled . . .

It was dumb! The special effects were utter crap! The plots sucked ASS, and the acting was horrible.

As I was sitting there staring in rapt fascination at this trainwreck passing before my eyes, my mom happened to walk through the living room and ask what I was watching. I told her, and gave her my critique as a 20-something, finishing off with, "I can't believe I used to watch this crap!"

That's when she dropped a nuclear guilt bomb . . .

"You used to make me watch it with you."

Mom . . . [I'm sorry.] ><

Thundercats pwn. Period.

I trust that it's possible to make a good Thundercats movie about as much as I'd trust a Voltron movie. I agree that it has a high chance of flopping and taking some inner childs under with it.

GI Joe has some real potential though.
