First off, he got into my ls(theHeroicLegends), and preceeded to make an ass of himeself. Really pissed poeple off, so he got booted.

Then in a dunes party with this 12 year old pudknocker, 2 People go down, and I get Parnthelegend to come and raise. Tigran felt this was taking too long, disbands the party and joins another party.

The story has a happy ending. Parn stuck around, raised the 2 ko'ed people and along with his fiancee to the pt. He then pled us for a few levels.

You know unless you're 51+ Raise II does nothing different than Raise I right? And at Dunes level(hell, up until mid30s depending on where you're at,) Raising causes you to lose more exp than you would if you were to just suck it up and homepoint, right?

You're entirely in the wrong in the latter 2/3s of your post. Tsk tsk. Powerleveling? I mean, I know you've gone through them, but for fucks sake, do not rush first timers through the dunes that fast.

I'll power lvl.

But I have my conditions.

1. No people without a subjob. And preferably noone without another job 30+.
2. Only when I feel like it, never when asked.
3. I have to know at least SOMEONE in the party.
4. If I power lvl you, it will be for free.
5. I will always... ALWAYS ask the whm if he/she minds me doing their job.
6. If you are past the Jungle and ask me for a power lvl, not only will I not do it, i'm gonna laugh at you.

under those conditions, a power lvl isn't so bad.

Oh, and Parn is a pld, they weren't wanting a Raise II, they just didn't want to walk back from Jeuno I'm guessing.

In which case only the last 1/3 of his post would put him in "the wrong".

That is unless the power lvl adhered to my rules. But of course, that is just my opinion.

Not being powerleveled is about learning how to do your job as far as I'm concerned.

My linkshell discussed once whether it would be bad for someone with a melee job to get thief powerleveled to 15. Not only are there obvious benefits to simply having the job there for TH, but there's not a lot to learn before that.

Similarly, as a Mnk/War, there isn't a lot my warrior needs to learn between 25 and 30. I've spent a few levels tanking, but there seem to be plenty of people leveling ninja through jungles these days. So basically, I'm straight melee, a job I know well.

Now, I personally enjoy the break from monk now and then (and I solo'd my thief to 15; didn't even bother trying for a dunes party), but I don't think a powerlevel is wrong in either case; it's not going to prevent me from learning to do my job.

So imo, the OP isn't wrong, except perhaps in the grammar of the last sentence, which I don't understand: "Parn stuck around, raised the 2 ko'ed people and along with his fiancee to the pt." What did that mean? o-O?

Theres a homepoint crystal in Jeuno, an outpost in the middle of the zone, and a border guard on the side you'd have to get by sand bats to get to if you set your homepoint at either of the previous two locations.

It's really no excuse to want a raise until you exp a little further away from convenience.

i cant fucking stand people that go xping in the dunes and refuse to set their homepoint anywhere other than jueno or one of the other cities.
as skaw mentioned theres THREE very close and easily accesible locations to HP in the dunes.
Yet for some odd reason every time i level a job in that zone i end up with fuck-tards: that not only pull some stupid shit like not making it to camp aggro free, or pulling a link, or any of the other numerous things that can get you killed from being a moron in the dunes, but in addition they INSIST on getting a raise (in fucking lv 13 COMON WTF) because they have their homepoint in jueno.
maybe it seems harsh, but i tend to make any group im part of out in VD, or i just solo the xp. when i get people that are too friggin rude to HP in zone so they can save us all a shitload of time by eating a few measly hundred XP loss, i just say "/farewell, good luck with that" and boot their asses.

I don't see anything wrong with powerleveling if you actually take the time to help the new player out and teach them the things they need to know.

I've been playing for a few months, and I powerlevel my ls members with my bf as pld 45 and whm 45. We always make sure to help them understand macros, their job in a party and to make sure they don't overdo themselves (like overnuke, take too much hate from tank etc). We go out of our way to power lvl them from 1-10 if we have the time, but during this time we go over everything we can think of to help them understand their job and duties in a party.

Its a good idea though for sure ask the whm in the party if they're ok with having PLing, and its also good to see if any of the other party members are new to the game to ensure that they aren't "rushed" and become bad players later on for not having had the chance to learn from "mistakes" they'd make in the dunes.

PLing does have its advantages though, it eliminates the frustration that new players sometimes deal with when first starting out after multiple deaths which sometimes lead to them quitting.

My problem with power leveling, is what it does. When the Warrior who tanks alot, doesn't have his evasion capped because the PL wants to keep hate and do less work....thats bad. =/

1) I just got into a party, this fool was made leader. The second he's leader he disbands the party and gets in another. Oh well. I watched bats eat him and laughed.

2) Powerlevelling is a large portion of what is wrong with this game, combined with apathy towards ridiculous levels of gimpness.

I reject PL parties outright, and use /blockaid or leave if I get invited to one anyway. I also VERY rarely will do it for someone, and never a full party. It takes away from my own job, no matter what it is. I like to know every aspect of whatever job I'm playing, so I can play it at its best. A powerlevel through parties takes this away from me, and it's not something I'm comfortable with.

One of the bigger reasons as well that there are increasingly fewer low level parties is because everyone is rushing through them. It's a slow but steady decay of the entire game. :/ Oh well.

I agree with having rules about powerleveling although I pesonally powerleveled quite a few parties as WHM and I never adhered to most of it. I find it admirable that you are willing to make sure people understand how to play before making it easier on them. I will powerlevel friends when I chose to do so but only when I chose to. I prefer to PL a single person but sometimes that option isn't feasible, so I PL entire parties in that situation. When I do PL an entire party, I try to not do all of the healing and I make sure the person I am PLing atleast knows party dynamics although most of the people I PL are leveling their 2nd job.

I partly disagree with people's apprehensions to powerleveling. At the dunes level, it is very hard to make a capable party with a standard setup. A ninja tank is almost impossible due to the lack of Utsusemi: Ni, WAR/NIN is not an option, so the only real options are WAR and PLD although dual NIN is possible, its rare to have two NINs in a single party. It hasn't always been so but I have noticed the Dunes has been a lot less crowded. A WAR is almost always insufficient to hold hate for longer than 15 seconds and training them to tank on a job that only tanks at low levels teaches improper job dynamics. All jobs lack sufficient job abilities at that level and most parties are improperly setup. The lack of job equipment also makes it very difficult to party as well. There is very few items that have +/-enmity and most that do are event items I do not expect anyone to have especially a new player. Most do not even make a SC let alone make use of a MB. My point is this: At such low levels, party dynamics are very hard to learn. Most can forgive someone for being a noob at the dunes because its expected and I don't think being PLed is going to make them learn any less. It isn't until Qufim that people start using SC more and not until Kazham that people begin to get comfortable with their job and more job abilties make paartying easier. At that point in the game, I will not powerlevel a party, although I have PLed a few high levels because they were a few hundred from level. Even PLed a 58 thief 600 exp after the huge experience modification.

This is not the only reason I don't have a huge qualm about leveling parties through the dunes. Most experienced players who make a run through the Dunes refuse to explain party dynamics, macros, or any other game specifics to the newer players. I personally think if you are partying with someone and they are not doing their job or don't know what to do, it is your obligation to tell them. Then when they get PL'ed its a sin because they won't learn anything? I can see the PL'er being slightly guilty, but so is everyone who has partied with a newer player and not given any advice. Unless everyone is willing to explain how to party to everyone who needs that advice, then don't place the blame solely on a PLer. I've also never seen anyone refuse a PL'er. I have heard people do it but a majority of them were WHMs who felt useless in the party and I completely understand that.

And on a small side note, but those who have played WHM and get powerleveled are usually the smartest people to PL. Not sure if its just coincidental or if they are just use to doing PLs, but when problems arise they know how to deal with it and they are the quickest to make that chain. Just a little tidbit I thought I'd share. 8)

Wow, this thread decided to go WAY off topic.
Skaw:
1. Where did I mention raise 2?

2. I was getting my thf to 15 for TH1, so in all honesty, I really don't care about the job.

I am usually against powerlvling, but that day I had dinged Level 10 a total of 6 times. So I was eager to move on.

Now, as this has turned into a pro/cons of powerlvling, here my thoughts on it.

It's a crutch. It can severly impair your playing ability. That being said, it's up to you what you get outa the game, so if you want to cut corners, that is your choice. As a tank, I don't like it cause it fucks up my skill ups for shield, parry and evasion.

1. It was 6 AM. So "raised the 2 ko'ed people" came out as "raise 2ed the ko'ed people"

2. Not caring about the job isn't an excuse for hindering play for other people. It's like those that don't put much stock in equipment just because it's going to be a subjob. Either play to the benefit of those around you as well as yourself, or don't play at all.

How did I hinder the play of others? If they didn't want a PL, thats cool. I didn't twist anyone's arm. I didn't ask for one, it was offered, and I accepted. The party reformed as a PL party, so anyone not down for that should have just said <No Thank You>. I played thf to 15 for TH1. I played it well, and was well equipt. I died multiple times to save the party(s).

So, how did I hinder anyone's gameplay?

yea bro i agree. Tigran is a fucktard lil gil buyer. he is a 29 rdm in full barons and he doesnt even know what leaping lizzy dropped and a ton of other shit. he didnt even know of allakhazam or nuthin. yesterday he was also talking about selling his emperor's hairpin and his peacock charm!

I don't think Bray hindered the game for others. I think that's taking it a little too far for one power level party. :?

I know him in real life. You think this is bad?
