I thought the tilde was the squiggly line over the spanish letter, ñ.
Which makes the "nya" sound. :O

This post just makes me think "God people are dumb". I mean who the hell cares anyway, there is so much bad punctuation/spelling/shortening of words in this game I don't know how you could even stand to play if you got so pissy about someone throwing around ~'s all the time seems like one of those at the end of a sentence would be the least of your worries.

Definitions of tilde on the Web:

* The tilde (~) signifies an individual user's Web site when housed on a server. For example, http://www.cuteftp.com/~user - says that user is a cuteftp.com user and that his homepage is on cuteftp.com's server. The tilde character is on the top line of your keyboard to the far left.

* 1. the diacritic mark (~) placed above an n in some orthographies to indicate a palatalized sound, as in Spanish ca–on. 2. the same mark placed above a vowel in phonetic transcription to indicate that the vowel is nasalized.

* The sorta squiggly dash character available from shift-clicking the top left corner key of most American-style keyboards; rhymes with "bill me."
www.metromemetics.com/thelexicon/t.asp

* is also a personal name in Sweden.
encyclopedia.laborlawtalk.com/Tilde

* a diacritical mark (~) placed over the letter n in Spanish to indicate a palatal nasal sound or over a vowel in Portuguese to indicate nasalization
www.cogsci.princeton.edu/cgi-bin/webwn2.1

* The tilde is a grapheme which has several uses, described below. The name of the character comes from Spanish, from the Latin titulus meaning a title or superscription, and is pronounced "TILL-duh" or "TILL-dee" (IPA ). It was originally written over a letter as a diacritic (see below), but has since acquired a number of other uses as a character in its own right. In this capacity (especially in lexicography) it is also sometimes known as the swung dash (usually lengthened to ⁓).

Not in Spanish. "Tilde" in Spanish is the written form of the accent, and the tanslation is , redundantly, "tilde"... "Acento" is the letter inside the syllable with the most force (or however you say "fuerza de pronunciación" in English) in the word: ca/sa, the "a" in "ca" has the "acento". Whereas in to/mé", the "é" has the "acento" plus a "tilde" to make it written as "aguda". Which is one of the four classifications of the accent in words "aguda", "llana", "esdújula" and "sobreesdrújula".

The ~ on the "ñ" doesn't have a name that I know of in Spanish, and it's pronounced like the "gn" in lasagna. In Spanish, you can write it as "lasaña" if you want.

God, I feel like such a nerd, I just felt like defending my language, lol.

I just said what i learned at school in Spanish.
I was told that tilde was the ~ on ñ
and the line ontop of vowels are called "Accentos"
And "fuerza de pronunciación" in english is called
Stress syllables, and are used to determine whether or not an accent mark is needed on a vowel.

OK let me type down what it says in my notes, since i got a Spanish final tomorrow.

Stress/accent rules
1) Words that end in a vowel, "n" or "s" and stress the second-to-last syllable do not require a written accent mark.

2) Words that end in a consonant, except "n" or "s" and stress the last do not require a written accent mark

3) Words that are exceptions to stress rules require a written accent mark over the vowel of the stress syllable

lol I bet no one knows wtf im talking about.
But atleast QCDN is helping me study :P

I do. ^^

Agudas: the accent is in the last syllable: estar
Llanas: the accent is in the penultimate syllable: casa
Esdrújulas: always with a "tilde", antepenultimate: esdújula itself is an esdrújula, lol
Sobreesdrújulas: every word that has the accent before esdrújulas.

Accentuation rules:

Agudas: accented only when ending with n, s or a vowel.
Llanas: accented only when ending in a consonant other than n or s.
And the other 2 are always accented. ^^

14 years of Spanish baby! Plus the other 4 before I was in school... bwahahaha

Trust me, "tilde" is the ' in á, é, í, ó, ú, every word has an acento. Diéresis: the dots in ü.

This is making me sick... you people try too hard. But at least the people who actually took the time to sort through the last two posts are much more knowledgable on my friend and yours the ~. But will anyone make that effort, only time will tell.

Only time will tell if you will ever STFU and die.

Yes! My first flameboard friend! Glad to know my posts aren't going unappreciated. More hate please!

for a really long time people used to ask me if i knew Pandoras cause i'd usually put a ~ at the end of my sentences. I have never seen anybody else do that before she was around, except for taru NPC's. So if you wanna bitch at somebody bitch at her neo, but to my knowledge she quit  . *insert next text fad here* (go go onry >.>;;;)
