If you are seeking party for invite, be ready to go when invited.
Have your gear, potions, food, tools, ammo, etc, ready to go.

roger, wilco.

I picked up a couple of these types of people during the 50s on whm. I'm still amazed by the sam who had to mule for sam gear before we could leave.

Sidenote: http://www.qcdn.org/showthread.php?t=6105

Every time I see your name, that thread comes to mind.

People being prepared and ready to xp would imply that they actually cared about the game, their character, their rep, etc. Probably safe to say that most players don't.

QCDN needs a flag to put on threads for "thread of the year", cause this'd definitely be one.

But I digress - I always thought it was FUN to grab that job you've seen seeking for half an hour, only for them to say "gotta mule, brb" and take another twenty to be ready.

I'd reply, but I left my witticisms on a mule. BRB.

Agreed with completely....

And to add on the subject...

IF your seaking... DONT GO AFK!

Point being you dont seak to go afk, you seak to get a pt there and then. Sry but its annoying when you see 4 or 5 people seaking and either half or all of them are AFK.

The most I normally have to get is an extra stack of food and refreshing sanction unless I get one of those unaturally fast invites before I can even think of sorting out my gear which strangely happen quite often.

I'm seaking right now Skaw.

what annoys me the most is when a whatever the last job you need to set up your pt goes afk while seeking, for a LONG time, without even putting up a search comment. 5-10minutes of AFK time, i'm fine with, but one time i set up a pt after asking someone who turned out to be afk, they came back and asked me why i hadn't saved the spot for them, and ended up getting all pissy because i didnt wait after i sent them a tell. It had been an hour and 45minutes.
i'm usually fine with people having stuff in MH, or needing to buy some more food, tools, maybe an upcoming spell or important gear piece, that sort of thing that takes 2-5minutes.
The muling thing also gets on my nerves, unless you were invited as say a pld to apt but then turns out your needed as your ninja/mnk/thf whatever at the same level, you should have all your gear and stuff you know you need and already have on your char at the very least before you start to seek for a party.

AFK while seeking... annoys me. But sometimes I do it as well. Seeking is so boring, sometimes I fall asleep.

Yeah, thats the thing. If someones seeking, you can't expect them to stick around until they get a party.

If I have to go to the bathroom, or feel the need to hit up the kitchen, I'm going to do it.

If I'm going to be gone longer than 5 minutes, yeah, I'll take down Invite status.

<_> Has anyone ever changed jobs (not seeking) and was about to go to their mule when the party invite tell appears? That can be an understandable mule change but otherwise, it can be annoying.

On some days, sitting around can be quite tedious so I have been known to multi task while waiting. I usually put that I am semi afk in the /sea com and check in time intervals. I have a hard time sitting in a chair for hours staring at the moogle. ._.;

As far as the main OP's complaint, guilty of this as well, and I do feel a bit guilty about it.

But I can only hold 1 set of gear on my at a time because all my sets are massive and there's only 60 slots. Sometimes when I seek I switch around jobs. Sometimes WHM... sometimes NIN. So if I get an invite on the 1 that isn't geared.. then I'll tell them I need to switch gear. Also will need to log off for about 30 seconds to switch macro files on my ps2 character selection screen, as I can't fit all my macros on 1 file and WHM and NIN happen to be on different files.

In theory I could pick 1 job and stick with it while seeking, of course that doesn't make your party get out of town faster if you're desperately looking for a healer and I'm stick on Ninja.

Aye, that's why I like to fire up the old Unreal on the comp and keep the chat window maximized on the TV. If you check the screen every frag or so, leaders shouldn't have to wait more then a couple minutes until you see their tell.

I know what you mean about the different jobs tho Firestreak, lvling NIN right now and swapping between it and RDM is a freaking operation. If it weren't for mog lockers I'd be at 60/60 all day.

edit:

If I'm seeking and have to go afk for more then 5 minutes, I just add it to my search comment

{Away} {Short Time} Back at XX:XX

That leaves the option to the party leader to either wait for me, if no one else is available like say another tank, or get someone else instead.

Edit: Of course, this implies I'm not going afk for an hour, more like 10-15 minutes. If more then I just take the flag down.
