Well, it seems some of us were lucky enough to get colored chocobos. However, I still don't see any solid information on how this was accomplished. So, I figured I'd lay out a few questions for those of you with colored chocobos. I'll compile this information and see what I can come up with.

1. What color is it?
2. What temperature egg did you have, and was it from an ISNM?
3. What types of careplans did you put it on? (ex: Listen to music)
4. How did you care for your chocobo? (ex: go for a walk)
5. What foods did you feed it?

To anyone who fills it out, thanks for taking the time =D

1. Black
2. The quested one from Brutus in Upper Jueno
3. first week each plan except rest for 2 days, after that full music till day 19.
4. walk 3x day then wacth over until empty
5. veggy past for the first week, gyshal greens for 5 days, zegham carrots for next 5 days until it grew to young adult, zegham from there on out

I got a Full Black chocobo and I used the egg from the Chocobo on the Loose quest from Brutus.
Wife used the same egg and plans and she has a Yellow Chocobo.

Anyone put any thought to the food you use? Like how the Z Carrots create a red auro effect when the choco eats it? Could be random but maybe the element of the foods you feed it have a good say on what you get.

Just a thought if the same egg from the same quest produced two different colored chocobos.

1. Black
2. Was a BIT egg purchased from Jeuno
3. During the chick stage, had it take a walk in town. Once it was a teen, had it on excercise alone.
4. It was walked as many times as it could as a chick... then it was looked after until energy was completely depleted. As a teen, had it race others 2x then told it a story until i couldn't do it any more. Then looked after until no energy left.
5. Chick = Veg. Paste and San'Doria carrots. Teen = 1 Cupid Worm and 1 Vomp Carrot per day.

Zegham carrots give a Blue effect, Vomp Gives red.
and Wife and I both fed the same, other than a toko if one or the other got sick, same food same plans, same care.. different color
I say random

Opps thanks for the corection. Vomp is what I've been feeding my choco with the red effect
 
Question for those with Black birds.

During their teen phase did all of your birds have black tips on their feathers?

I'm just curious if yellow + white tips at the teen phase is a sure sign of a yellow bird.

If anyone had their heart set on a black bird, it would be good information to know so they could quit, and start over as soon as possible.
 
I think the colour is random with higher chance possibly going to the non-bought eggs. The stats are developed based on how you take care of them/feed them probably.
 
I bought mine in Jeuno, dropped it off in Sandy and forgot about it, as I don't have much time for FFXI. Around Day 18 I named it, and Day 27 I fed it, never walked it, set up care schedual, ext. I really neglected it. Turned out to be a Black Choco! lol but my stats suck, I am gonna take care of it from now on.
 
I neglected the crap out of mine on stouter too and it came out black, although Lucy's was on its death bed for a few days, and came out yellow. Both were ISNM eggs, I'm convinced it's random.
 
Since there's something, somewhere, about breeding maintaining the colour line from male, anyone with a blue/dark blue(purple?)/black chocobo, do let me know. (I want that chococard!) >_>

Bought in Jueno, don't remember which temp
All available plans
Gyshal Greens, not even topokko grass
Walked and watched over it
