Mines like 4 megs at the moment.

Not entirely sure but I think that was one of the folders i used to delete when copying DVD's to free up some needed space because it was holding like 500 megs once.

Windows holds files in so many places I just franticaly try to delete them all when I"m imaging the dvd's to my drive. lol

If it ever did build up it would be a good place to check if your short on space though.

I have a question. Before Matt reformatted me this past summer I had Kazaa on my comp. The free version. I really loved it for downloading music, and NO I've never ever even gone to a pr0n site on this comp (thank goodness Steve can barely use a mouse).

Anyway, Matt told me not to put that back on my machine cuz it's loaded with adware crap. Now that I have these ada ware and spybug thingys, can I download the Kazaa again?

Get kazaa lite, not regular kazaa. Regular kazaa is an ad installing fiend. Been a long time since I used either, but kazaa lite was the modified ad free version back in the day (if it is still around).

Something was seriously wrong if that folder got up to 500 mb DD. It has a limit of like 128 files I read somwhere. Each index is only 20-40kb, so I don't see how it could get that big. Maybe it was a different folder you are thinking of.

ya maybe differnt folder, anyway it is one of them that i check when looking for space to free up.

Try bittorrent Kat. Little more complicated but you can got lots of new stuff there.

Kay, thanks guys. Gonna go check both versions out now.

I like limewire... it's like kazaa... almost exactly like kazaa lol... minus the spyware and such.

Heres another article that can make the issue even more confusing. This is probably where alot of the confusion comes from, especially considering the source.
See the flaw with that article is they claim it builds up. Windows XP clears out old entries that don't get used after a while on its own. Even if you didn't clean it out, these programs aren't being preloaded. It is just storing the exes name and the memory location of many of the files it needs, it takes practically no space on your hard drive and isn't being loaded into ram. If you start one of the exes it has a prefetch for, then it already knows where most of the stuff is. If it makes a prefetch for a program that you don't use again for a long time (like a month), windows xp will clean it out on its own. Its a computer myth, that you need to clean it out, as I have found it refered as on several other sites.

I know a bit about Windows operating systems and have successfully fixed problems such as this. Surly there are other ways, but in times of need taking "the time to learn new trix" can be replaced with "getting it done and over with"

1. Do a virus scan. ( For the hell of it )
2. Back up important files not anything that will infect any machine (*cough*PS GAURD*cough*) DVDs or on an external HD or CD's a DVtape or anything that will contain your data so long as it's off your HD.
3. do an F Disk.
4. Re-install Windows.

Install and update your Antivirus, then Upload your backed up data into your formatted HD, Virus scan it with glory. Done.

If this is the case
If your running Windows XP and, If your PC was not originally a Windows XP machine, and you want to re-install windows XP. (I would have to hit the books on how to do that again cause XP does not understand DOS). So install "Windows NT or 98 OEM" And when it is complete, install Windows XP as an upgrade.

Stuff you probably don't care about
Somewhere along the lines you may be given the option to set your HDD as NTSF or Fat32 So look out for that.
NTSF has a better compression ratio from what i have read about it, and offers a better performance for your operating system, NTSF takes note on how files fluxuate in size slightly while in use, thus allowing the HDD to fragment slower. If it's an upgrade from Windows 98 you'll most likely be stuck with a FAT or FAT32. Honestly if it's NTSF or FAT32, i can't tell the difference when it comes to the performance really, After an F Disk i'd be nice to your PC and defrag it often enough. I read how NTSF is most effective for larger HDD in the 128 GB range, As it was described to me, It only offeres 4 GBs of file fluxuation space. I think that is alot considering your not running files that large.

A note on Maintanance not for everyone
-Stay away from porn sites and treat your PC like a lady.
-Buy a cheap peice of shyte thing of the past for seperate use, and treat it like a whore.

The limeware one makes me download that Java thingy. I also play Yahoo spades and I don't like the look of the rooms with the java downloaded. Hence why I won't use that software.

The BitTorrent won't download for me for some reason.

Kazaa now has a thing right on the download page saying no spyware. I'm thinking about whether or not to trust it. I may put it back on, then again I may just keep goin' without it.

*Edit*

Did some more searching for Limewire and found a download C/Net provides. Didn't need to install Java Cup. Shewwwww ...

Also was finally able to get BitTorrent to download for me. It's okay, but it doesn't have half the songs I'm looking for.

Thanks a lot guys for all the help and suggestions. Hippy sorry to hi-jack your thread a tad on what to do about downloading music.
