first off if you are browsing the web with IE then you are begging to get internet aids. :|

i really recommend everyone to use Firefox 2 - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Or Firefox 3 - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0b1/releasenotes/#download

i personally use firefox3 but its still somewhat in beta. i would also recommend opera, but at this point i lean towards Firefox because of a particular add-on that makes its extremely important

this add-on is called NoScript - http://noscript.net/
it stops all scripts from running until you give them permission its a slightly annoying, but the safety is well worth it in my opinion.

for a break down of what and when to use these programs ill suggest this:
For General Web browsing - anything other than pRon and ffxi sites ( as those are the websites that are of security caution ) use opera - http://www.opera.com/

For browsing sites that you think might contain harmful scripts , such as pRon and ffxi sites use Firefox - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0b1/releasenotes/#download WITH NoScript installed - http://noscript.net/

one last note - when you have noScript installed ( on Firefox )
Click [Tools] > [Add-ons]

Click on NoScript > [Options]

make sure Check marks are in:
Forbid Java
Forbid Adobe Flash
Forbid Microsoft Silverlight
Forbid other plugins
Forbid IFRAMES
everything else should be already set up. now this wont make you 100% immune to internet aids, but it sure as hell is like wearing a condom made out of protect/shell5 phalanx, stoneskin, and dread spikes.

Also recommend saving your passwords and log in names so you wont have to type them in.

ANOTHER thing is using a decent firewall. Its much more annoying than NoScript, but it blocks anything and everything that tries to access your computer without permission until you give the OK.

Do these prevent file sharing? I have my firewalls turned off cus it interferes too much with stuff like Itunes and bittorrent.
 
Just use FF, Noscript, and use adblock on ads. You won't need a firewall (Unless you're a moron and go looking for warez and shit), and FF doesn't interrupt P2P stuff.

Noscript and adblock are for firefox. They dont mess with p2p

Yeah, I love it. Used it for a long time. Earlier I had like 4 different firefox plugins for FF alone. That plugin combines them all so you only need 1 :P
 
Question about the plugin.

I noticed some of the pages use somepage <.< Isn't that bad since somepage is all hacked and whatnot? D:
 
You can go into options for FFXI Helper and edit out somepage and out in another website

Wow, that add-on is insanely good. Don't think I'll ever have to go to a pursuivant to check ballista times ever again lol.
