Hello ^^

I have been looking around in the existing threads for information on what level your group should be for this BC. I've read different things about level requirements. Some people say you need a party of lvl75s and others say that he is weaker then fenrir. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this? Thanks in advance.

lvl 75 capped fight.. should probably be taken as seriously as Fenrir.

Must be on CoP 4-1 at least..

from what I hear, have at least 2 stunners to stun nightmare..

drink sleeping potions for his sleepga II

nin tank or pld tank, either one works

his 2 hr isn't terrifically strong, so no worries there

Thanks :D Seems I have some leveling to do if I want to get a pact with him ><

I'd say he's weaker than Fenrir, and you still don't need stunners to stun nightmare, as the mages can stand out of range for it...

However, I'd really reccomend a NIN tank as he can not be kited. And his drain sucks

Also, mages need to be sure they don't steal hate from the tank, if they do they run a high risk of getting slept, and in that case it's technically over.

Dunno how well a pld tank would do on this, this guy hits pretty damn hard...critical for 510 on my ninja. Guess with pld 2h it could maybe get pulled off. And everyone should be 75 or damn near it. And get poison potions, not sleep potions. Also, like the Mission, the tiles do drop down. I dunno about this whole dont stun nightmre thing...that requires alot more casting than a simple stun. Thunder4/thundaga3 should be used by the blms, with those two spells he goes down fast.

I've been told he's weaker than fenrir fight. His 2 hour isn't too bad. Uzor founda great place to stand that makes it so all mages won't get hit with Nightmare so it isn't so bad :P especially a WHM, BLMx2, RDM, SMN, NIN set up. Only NIN got hit :D

Can you say where you stood to avoid nightmare? Without risking droping in a hole when he drops tiles? Would make it much easyer. as it is, its dreadfuly hard and need some luck, unless you have 4 blms.

Ninja and pld tanks both seem fine. Diablos also spams dispelga and blindga.

that's the battlefield I do believe

X= not safe tiles and
O= safe tiles
D= Diabolos start
M= Mages stand
T= Tanks (or other melee)

that's how we did it. Have the mages in the furthest corner of that tile they are on (basically right at the edge of casting range on the melees/tanks) and you'll be good ^^ Gravity is nice on him too if a BLM takes hate cause it gives tank time to get more hate or BLM to nuke to finish it off if it is low enough.

This works fine with a PLD tank. I stacked my VIT gear and I was taking no more then 110 damage per normal melee hit.

Ripped through this with PLD DRG DRK WHM BLM RDM.

Entered BC, slept to 300 TP each...Full buff, etc etc...Walked to the ledge, Poison potion, Vitality Potion, and jumped down. While wearing my max HP gear(Ate a Pescatora), ran up and Spirits Diabolos for roughly 856 damage(He hit me once before I could go). Voked him into position and let the DRK and DRG make light(Wheeling Thrust >>> Spinning Slash). BLM MB'd on light with Thundaga III, and thanks to my opening Spirits, I was able to hold it. Melee's hit 100 TP per normal attacks, and SC'd again, MB follow up. Everyone popped Icarus Wings, BLM went down, one more almost SC and it died..

Buffing up prior took awhile, but the fight itself was no more then 2 minutes. The only hitch was a Nightmare after his 2 hour, which threw us red, but Invincible > Cure WHM > Benediction and we were fine.

My best piece of advice? Come prepared for anything. Don't hold back...I had 24 Muslums for MP regen, Vile Elixir, which I did use. WHM had a Vile Elixir+1, melee's had their Icarus, and a stack of sleeping potions each. Just go all out, it's a hard battle, but if you can stick a good strategy, you'll wear him out before he gets a chance to do any real damage.

Standing like that, mages won't get hit by nightmare and can wake the tanks and melees up. And it wasn't my idea :P It was everyone in the group's idea as we talked about the strategy several times and where to stand. Like I've always said:

When trying something new, never expect to win the first two times. Se them purely as training to make yourself familiar with the battleground and enemy moves, strenghts and weaknesses

Basically, it's all based on "Third time's the charm" XD. Either way, our set up was BRD RDM WHM BLM RNG NIN, where the most important jobs are NIN, WHM and BLM, then either RDM or BRD as a refresher, The last two jobs can be anything. Reason we had a BRD and RDM was for increased dark resistance (which became useless as mages could easily avoid Nightmare), and RDM for stun (which was also useless, as Nightmare could, once again, be avoided).

What you do basically, is have mages hug eachother in the corner so they're out of range, while ninja bink-tank Diabolos. Black mage nuke him with Thunder IV and Thundaga III, as he seem to be weak to Thunder. However, he have to be carefull about not drawing hate, as Diabolos seem to always counter that by casting Sleepga II (it happened to us first two times atleast). He might also move too close to the mages too, so that they get slept once Nightmare goes off.

The BRD's job was to cast Ballad on the mages, while trying to stick Requiem and Slow (whatever that song is called...) on Diabolos. Lightning Threnody helps too, but really not needed. RDM enfeeble him (my enfeebles stuck 99% of the time, so he don't seem to be very magic resistant), as well as hasting the NIN and stuning/occasionally nuking to help him go down faster.

The WHM mainly concentrate on waking melees and tank up (first priority), aswell as curing anyone who needs it and removing their status effects.

The melees main job is to, offcourse, melee. Beat him without any deaths, easy as a pie.

Any set up is possible, you just have to think of your own one. Personally, I think he is easier that Fenrir, but that's just me. This was just our strategy, and we beat him flawless :P

Hehe.. that one tile that I watched Cythe's mage's stay on fell for my group. We weren't on it though cause I figured it might. And Uzor is right. The enfeebles stick so easily. The only one he seems to be completely resistant to is Silence (after all that'd make it a rather easier fight). Our third try in we got him great yesterday evening and with no deaths everyone at max HP and MP was about half for most (I converted and chainspelled at the end BLM just elemental seal Thundaga III at 25% and since we had two he was at a sliver). Artem did a great job tanking him in the corner and holding hate and Gravity really helps if BLM happen to take hate.

In my opinion war/nin was best tank for this one.On my nin i had a hard time tanking him when he spams -ga around 50 percent... and its non stop so no way you can keep shadows up.He hits like a truck also.But when i switched to war/nin with defense/koeing i was keeping shadows up every now n then n also it was hitting me for about 115 on normal hits.Only problem we had was we had no dmg at start.... me with a bunch of mages so i guess that could be the reason we lost.But i was thinking about tagging along with a manburn maybe cuz this fight is really hard unless you are lucky

Just to dispel any misconceptions from people reading this thread, this is not easier than Fenrir. This is much harder and makes the CoP lvl 40 version look like child's play. The trick to stay out of range of nightmare is nice, but at the same time it puts you outside casting range.

well if you stand in the right positions it is easier I'd imagine. Since his 2 hour isn't as bad as Fenrir (or so I'm told).

We have tried your positions 6 times, doesn't do much good for us. Mages still get slept if they are within casting range on him. His 2hour isn't important, its all the other stuff he spams inbetween.

Found this video on alla interesting. We kind of tried that once, but didn't quite get it down right. Maybe a strat could be made from that which doesn't revolve around 4 blms. :wink:

Actually, it's not outside of casting range :P You must possition yourself wrong, because my group could cast on both Diabolos and the tanks/melees :P

And we've already created one that doesn't revolve around 4 BLMes =/ And he was a pushover that way too... heh, no deaths.

And also, looking at that video, that's cheating :P And I'm sure SE will do something to fix it

When I said without 4 blms, I meant like the strat in the vid. Anyway, if you stay up there like in the vid, you still get pulled down if you ever pull hate.

We tried your positioning 6 times Uzor. We could indeed be outside nightmare aoe range using it, but it also put us beyond 20m which is the max distance for curing. I tried several times standing between 19 and 20m (using distance plugin), this let me cure the pld but I still got hit with nightmare which defeated the purpose.

1 minute and 4 seconds....

<Black Mage> <Power> <Excitement> <All Right!>

Then y ou couldn't have been standing in the right possition Rones, as it worked for us 2 times.

First time we lost because BLM pulled hate.
Second time we won with no deaths and no problems at all.

Take me with you sometime and I'll show you. Or hell, I'l ltake my group again and record a video of it (although an extremely laggy one)

As the whm of Uzor's party, I must say I had to move up 3 feet to cast cure and stuff on the tank or else he was out of range.

Our RNG got hit by Nightmare everytime Diabolos spat it and he was very close to me.

My very thought-through strat :rolleyes: was to cast cure/erase/haste then move back, rinse and repeat.
