they DID say there was a city that sunk underwater. Although I'm rather sure they also said they cleaned it up somehow and tried to preserve the ruins, but eventually had to flee due to the beastmen threat.

you can walk into water up to your waist about in game, so having a slightly flooded area would be realistic, and quite cool.
