Tomorrow A day where PLD once again be on the top! or today... :P

NIN > PLD still

Being a NIN, im probably a little a little biased, but thinking about this logicaly Extra TP gain, and Auto-Refresh isn't that big of a deal. Granted its a nice addition, but i really don't understand why some PLD are all like: "OMGZZ PLD IS BETTERZ THAN NIN W00TZ" when in reality, taking no damage, as opposed to taking damage, well, i for one chose the latter.

NIN > PLD. (period) ((at least in exp))

Hardly anyone is saying that pld is better than nin... lol, grow up.

If this increased TP gain on shield is equal to an extra weapon swing, you are suddenly talking about a lot faster TP gain for PLD. In end game EXP scenario's this could be awesome, since PLD have some very powerful WS...It's just our TP gain is slow as hell. I'm curious to see how the combination of increased shield blocking frequency and increased TP per block really affects our WS frequency in the end.

I for one tank with Joyeuse and Squid Sushi which ensures an acc rate of ~70% with no +acc equip (yes, our sword skill is THAT high), and what I see is a fast TP gain, but not-so-good WS.

I will normally do swift-blade with berserk macroed in and that rakes 150-250 dmg. Vorpal is very unreliable and Spirits means I'll need 90%+ HP to be really efficient at 100% TP. For this reason, I don't see TP bonus being all that good on xp pts, but rather an awesome addition to soloing where Vorpal can rake the big numbers on DC and EMs. This will then bring me back to my previous point that SE still hasn't hit the nail on the head bla bla bla.

However, it just occured to me that the TP bonus gain can serve a very important role on xp pts: PLD as a RELIABLE SC opener ~^

That's right, Savage Blade and Swift Blade can open both Light and Darkness for Wars, Rngs, Sams and Drks (I may be missing some) to close.

Hmmm.... Interesting...

Sae, next time you tank for me in lufaise, I'm forcing you to wear a Life Belt.

Thats a thought, you can SC with PLDs now, a very nice concept, one of their big weaknesses IMO.

Oh noes!!!

You see, unfortunately, my Warwolf belt grew some sort of mold is now stuck to my body O.O

It does occasionaly flip only to reveal a Hierarch, but that's just for healing.

If only I could take it off...

Full attack gear + sushi + company sword + good tp gain.

Check sig for dmg :O

edit: I don't even have a full set of attack gear >.>

my understanding that NOT only do PLDs get TP for sheild blocking BUT there was also something in the Update details about them increasing the freqency of sheild blocking as well as uping the amount of damage a PLD blocks with his/her sheild

im not see a MAJOR increase in the amount of sheild blocks but i already block alot aganst VTs with my sheild skill at 249 and with and depending on how often PLDs block and how much damage is absorbed by the sheild It honestly could make PLDs ALOT more self sufecient.

I would love to see it where if a PLD blocks an attack with his sheild, even though he takes damage, the spell he was cassting would not be interupted. I think that would help out PLDs as well

He said especially.

It's like saying a Warrior will speed up exp in a party 33+, especially if they have a Peacock Charm.
ah but you see young grasshopper the point I was trying to make is that a pal has to be on the top of his game to just be even in the same ballpark as nin when it come to exp over time. No matter how much mp or dmg reduction you still going to need healing, you still going have use mp. This update will make there chains faster but they still wont be the dominate tank when it come to cannon party which is what the big rage is these days. In a well rounded party pal I think are best, but in cannons they are left in the dust. I still like though because pal are really big in endgame when it come to sky/hnm/kings/events but they are sadly lacking in exp/merit in the latter lvls. If the made pal have numifided attack moves that be nice or even give them stonskin

Just to let you guys know utsu san just showed up in the datamine.....

Saevel never incurs downtime when I party with him in Lufaise (with the exception of very badly timed ram links)

i have a low lvl static party in which i am a ranger. and our tank is a pld. i am very greatful that my tank will be a pld all the way. when i start unleashing sidewinders i need to know that someone will be able to keep me alive.

<3 cover :P

i'll admit that for my smn i prefer a nin tank, i dont main heal anyway cause i put a whm in my parties, its their job and they are way better at it then i am. but, like all jobs, pld's have their role. and hopefully this update will allow them to do it better.

Hey skaw, give me 800 mil now or your firstborn dies

@.@

Just 800 Mil? Seems low for a relic these days.... >.>

I dont know if this has been addressed or not, but what would make pld as efficient tanking in a xp pt as a nin? Would it be something like a shield blocking ratio of 2:1? 3:1? what do you guys think?

ahh but you see even you yourself prove my point. How many pally have ethereal earring? Why take the chance of having a crappy pally when you can have a nin where you are ensure good exp. Hey I dont mind pallys they good exp but you will still see 99.9% of the time people will pick nin over pal in merit partys because nin just gain exp faster.

Personnally, when I merit on BLM, I like PLD tank a lot better. Most NIN I have seen had a hard time keeping hate with no SATA.

Once again it comes up not only to the tank but to the mages behind him too. Is the WHM some lazy mage who just doesn't want to heal? If so, go with a NIN and be lazy? A good WHM won't have any problem with a PLD, especially not in merit parties.

Any Ninja that prefers/needs a WHM in their group is a gimp. Your better Ninjas will have no need for a WHM 90% of the time/xp spot.

My bet is that the new shield block rate will be a *lot* more than what we've seen in the past and that the little shields will block ~60% and the big ones ~85 to 90. I'm very glad I got my shield capped.

I think SE realized that for PLD to have any kind of endgame competitiveness with NIN, they had to reduce the amount of damage taken by a quite a bit. PLD will still take damage, but to a degree that against VT mobs they would probably be able to completely cure themselves as long as they had a good refresher + auto-refresh.

It's either one way or another. Either bring PLD up or NIN down; they decided for the latter. I'll /cheer and cross my fingers this works.
