so here i am at the cusp of my frist lv 50 job, and instead of taking my pld headlong into battle for that last 6k exp.... i find myself seriously wanting to start on my lv 10 rdm again. wtf?!?

After a solid year of 20+ game hours a week I still cant stay with one job. I have almost max fame in every city and outland, i have alchemy at lv 50 and three more crafts over 20, 6 mules and mad incoming gil, but cant focus on one job. Do i just get bored? Is it the higher and higher tnl? is it the trouble finding parties? idk... maybe all of the above plus Z x Y.

Anyone else like this? I knew one guy when i started that also had like 6 jobs @ lv 30, my jobs and levels are listed at the end of my post, so i have made progress just not specific enough. Im curious is this a common thing with my fellow players?

I have been playing FFXI since US PC release, I've had 7 characters, and played 5 of them at least to where they would have 2 jobs to level 20. That being said until recently I had never been to Rabao.

I just mull around never to be extrodinary. The end game content really doesn't excite me but I want to unlock more of the storyline. The thought of HNM hunting just doesn't sound like my cup o' tea. I sometimes wonder why I continue to play but here I am still in the world of Vana'diel.

I've been playing since it was released for the PC in Oct. 2003.

*points down at sig* Those are my levels, and I have hero fame in Sandoria, not really hero fame anywhere else though.. but decent fame in Windhurst, and kinda lacking in Bastok.

You'd think with that much exeperience playing the game id have a 75 job by now ; ; /cry

Oh well.

I have this too but don't fight it, go with it. Whatever makes you happy is getting you your $s worth. I just got 63 thief this week, and I finally got my ninja sub to 37( 1 down, 2 to go ), I've now decide I'm going to also level ninja for the hell of it. Whatever makes one happy :D

Edit: This has its advantages too...Cross job gear, more gil overall from not rushing, cross job spells, etc.

I am the same way. I have had the change in motivation in the last month to level a job that would be helpful to other people that needed help. I decided that BST would be a good choice, so that is what I have been focusing on.

But seriously, you are getting more out of the game than some people. Doing the crafting, running the quests really fill out the story of the game. With a broader experience, you should become a better player and a more valuable asset to your friends... Kudos, you're not a freak.

:D

Yep I was the same way until I started playing BST. I started the game as a RDM, got to 10, switched to MNK until 30, thwn WHM to 37, BLM to 32, SMN to 44, and finally BST which I've actually stuck with for 4 months straight now lol. I am thinking of playing RDM again once I'm back in the states and back online in May sometime though.

I can't make up my mind either... I mostly kept switching from whm, to thf, to blm. I recently decided to just finish whm and thf, though, so those are all I'm really playing now. Maybe rdm after I finish both of those jobs. :)

Heh you're definitely not alone in that. Crook is one person I make fun of about it, but he pales in comparison to Ryio. Ryio's got:

Warrior: 10
Monk: 9
White Mage: 26
Black Mage 53
Thief: 17
Red Mage: 9
Paladin: 1
Dark Knight: 13
Beastmaster: 1
Ranger: 38
Bard: 23
Samurai: 20
Ninja: 19
Summoner: 19
Dragoon: 6

And he's been playing since PS2 release. I, on the other hand, have been playing since the PC release (October 29, 2003; my 18th birthday ^^), and look at my jobs. I'm just a slowass leveler. However, look at my quests; I've got hero fame everywhere except Norg (level 6 there), and it's not from repeatable quests. ;) Plus, I like to just explore sometimes. One time, when I was level 47, I snuck to the top of Castle Oztroja and saw the Yagudo Avatar, and the High Priests and Templars. Most people never go there unless they are doing Genkai 3 or Windy 6-2 or something, and everyone thought I was crazy for going. But I had a lot of fun. :)

The thing is, I hate leveling. When I do level, I take it seriously and play the best I can, but I would much rather do quests/missions, help people with stuff, sit around chatting, explore, or even farm! To me, leveling is just a means to that end. I can't do quests and missions if I don't level, and it's a lot harder to explore at lower levels. It's much nicer to be able to walk around without Sneak and Invis and not get aggroed. I'm sooo glad that I had a 54 THF when I first got access to Tavnazia, cuz I was able to explore to my heart's content without fear of getting aggroed. ^^

Yeah, it's true. those are mah Job levels. Its kind of sad really. But I am stciking to BLM, I promise! ^^

And to the Original Poster, I know exactly how you feel. When I see all the high level people with the cool weapon skills and mixing it up in battle, I get jealous and switch jobs. I dont think people respect BLMs much, but maybe that is just me... =\

Maybe If I thought people were impressed with BLM, I'd like it more...

I know how you feel to. I haven't been quite as bad in variation as some... but I've been playing since Nov. 2003 right after tha NA release and my highest job lvl is still only 42. However, I like to take my time crafting and just poking around. Plus I haven't lvld steadily in over 6 months and my comp has crashed a few times. =P

I too cant focus. I love Drk, and get excited when i actually get a party going, but I have no interest in sitting in Jeuno waiting. After waiting an hour or so I get bored and go do something different, generally leveling a lower job. War was my 1st job, took it to 30, then Drk to 30. After that when i was bored other level other jobs. Whm, Blm, Thf, and Brd all are 30+, and Rdm is almost 30 now too (I hit 27 today). And as much as I hate to say it, as soon as I get avatars Smn is next.

I also craft and quest when bored. I have hero fame everywhere, and im still looking at some quest that I want to do. I can almost always find time to craft, it just usually involves going to Ghelspa Outpost (sp?) and logging first. Woodworking is still on the rise (54). I really want to sign Dark Staves for my mage friends, and making Noble beds would be nice too, but my other crafts are all under lv 20.

Is it ADD? I dont know, but I cant stay focused, and it angers me to see other people level past my Drk. Oh well, its just how I play I guess

Hmmm... I have the same problem. Moods for different jobs come and go.

wow, thanks for all the posts! i hope this keeps going we can form like a support group

a lot of my moods depends on the parties i get. From the start the main advance job i wanted was Pld but now after lv 40 every cries "you should be a Nin"... why do people feel the need to "suggest" to other people how to play? w/e its my fault for letting them get to me, i guess its just the mood and the job to fit it.

thanks for all the support its good to know im not alone, especially since all my friends and LS buddies are lv 60+ and doing Dynamis and stuff or just plain quitting and moving on. I -DO- have alot more done than most people i was rank 5 before i had a lv 35 job and i see many lv 50's still at rank 2. The game is in the experience of playing not the points earned. maybe ill use that line in my bazarr comment tee~hee

I got side tracked while leveling rdm to 75 for a while. But getting to level 75 make getting gil alot easyer leading to leveling other jobs faster as you can gather gil faster

rdm 75
nin 57
bst 55
rng 52
blm 37
drk 35
whm 29
thief 25
war 25
rest under 10

I have fun leveling jobs up to 50 to collect the AFs now since you can get key items insted of taking up safe spots.

I was rank 5 when is was lv 32 so umm ya... : :o

i was rank 5 when i was 22

it took me a while to figure out what the heck i wanted to do in the game. I first took THF to 7, then WHM to 10, then WAR to 10, then WHM to 30 (subbing BLM, which was only lvl 10 XD) then WHM to 42. Its still there.

the only job i have never lvled so far is MNK.

theres only 2 jobs i havent tried yet. Monk (lv 1 obviously) and I never even bothered unlocking Dragoon.

I was never interested in monk early, I dont really know why. I see how much they kick ass as you get into higher levels, but still no interest.

Im not one of those anti-dragoon dark knights, it just doesnt appeal to me. The only ability they get is Jump, seems kinda boring. Dark knight keeps me entertained with absorb spells, souleater, drain/aspir, and my {too weak} MB's (damn elemental magic skill :x).

Every other job has parts i like, except for paladin. I really dont enjoy tanking, so that will forever stay at lv 11.
