I have a question for everyone about having multiple high level jobs, or multiple jobs you're leveling even.

Is it better to have 1 or 2 really nicely geared jobs or have multiple jobs 3+ and have a variety for different situations.

I'll probably add more about this question later, but this is the general question.

Easily the most important thing, is to level a job you absolutely hate, and then be sure to bitch about it every chance you get when asked to do anything at all on that job...

xD...

Just don't level another until you're satisfied with the jobs you have. Simple enough eh?

I have 3 level 75 jobs, but I only actively play 2.

LMFAO! That happens SO much, and its just ridiculous.

IMO, you don't have to completely pimp out one job before moving on to the next, but you should make sure you're not gimped. Do enough research to have a very clear understanding of the modifiers (DEX, ATK, INT, Macig Attack Bonus, etc.) for whichever job you're levelling, and have decent gear that support those modifiers so you are effective. Having many different 75 jobs that allow you to perform many different roles is good, but not if you can't do any of those roles effectively.

1. Take any job you level seriously, unless you're going for a Maat's Cap and just intend to plow through jobs to 66+ and then pretend you don't have them.

2. Don't level any job you don't enjoy.

3. If possible under the above two restrictions, try to level jobs that fit a variety of roles. Job versatility is better suited by having, for example, MNK (DD) PLD (tank) COR (support/DD) WHM (healer), rather than MNK DRK DRG SAM (all generally categorized as DD, though each has individually useful sub-traits). But it's still important to remember the above points: don't level a job you don't enjoy or don't take seriously, just for the sake of being versatile.

4. If you find you've levelled a job you never have occasion to use, and which you don't *like* (meaning you're neutral about it or even ignored point 2 and dislike it) ... just sell off its gear and put it towards stuff that'll actually get used. :P

5. In conjunction with point 4 and as a mitigating factor for point 1... don't be a loot whore on gear for a job you either a. don't much care for or b. only rarely play. Go for it if it's meaningful to you (or if nobody else wants it), but be honest about whether it'll actually affect you compared to how much it'd affect some other person going for it. And expect them to do the same for you.

It took me getting a few jobs to 75 before finding one I really did enjoy playing all the time... but it is also nice to have the other jobs "just in case," even though I never play them.

I personally also choose the quality vs quanity route. I have 2 fairly pimped jobs. Of course the time it took me to pimp my jobs with rare/ex I could of leveled 8-10 other jobs but my mentality is average geared players are a dime a dozen in this game but pimp geared players are much more valuable commodity in most situations.

Ah, I guess the majority rules this one!

I actually already have a bunch of LV75 jobs, and a few more incoming but they only have 'decent' gear, not gimped but not pimped at the same time XD and another problem is how to spend my weapon merits :S all my 75 jobs are melee.

I wish more people followed this route. I know so many people who lot gear for a job, especially in dynamis, just because they can. It's worse when they lot it over someone who a) likes the job and b) actually plays the job. The best are the people who not only lot an amazing piece for a job they hate but then for that SAME LINKSHELL they will outright refuse to come on the job that they lotted the amazing piece for. Greedy fucks.

I wouldn't have mentioned it if I didn't think it needed mentioning. Sad but very very true.

Well the way that i look at it is that you should have 1 or 2 main 75 jobs which are supposed to be very tricked out and then several 75 jobs that are decently geared.

For example I am first a 75 bard (still enjoy playing it somehow) then after that i have my monk which i consider my number 2 job and since there is little area for my bard gear to improve just by throwing money at it right now this is where the bulk of my gil is going. My 3rd job is my smn i have very good gear for my smn dont get me wrong but if i ever had to yardsale a job this would be the one and it has been before. My fourth job and my gimpiest by far is my thf. I love playing thief but im realistic i am not going to get to play it endgame... prettymuch ever. I dont even have a blau for it because its not worth the investment and im not that rich and infact i think the only job specific piece of gear i have for it that i spent more than 300k on is a thunder ring and a dragon harness other than that its all r/ex.

Im not saying that this is what everyone should do but just showing how i prioritize my jobs based on usefulness and what i like to play.

(for those of you who feel bad for my thief... dont he is going to get some homan very soon)

Ah, well if meaningful meant completing a full set then yeah I'd lot for it even if it wasn't that good but as of now, I'm more focused on buying terms rather then lotting n_n; I just came back and I don't have any endgame shells or anything xD.

I don't think t's an either/or situation. Best case scenario is to level a job > merit it + equip it to a high standard then move on to next.

But..

I'd rather have 2 x full merit / well equipped jobs than 4 poorly meritted/equipped jobs.

Well my first was rng which i love and still love and got bored with it they tried al bunch of jobs. Then I fell for pld, Got to broke to get better gear and frusrtated but nin cannons in 70s stayed for long time. There was a 2 month period I was really bored and didnt feel like doing anything in game but due to my addiction and bordem I ended up playing my whm and blm to 40. There was alot of weed smoke and b4 I know it my whm was in mid 60s so I finished the road to 75.

To be honest im doing it for the versitility I like being usefull in any situation. rng whm pld @ 75 and I also intend to have a close range DD and support @ 75. I can say most of my work goes into rng and pld whm has some decent gear definatly not gimped. Im gonna merit cor to 75 for support and my close range melee idk but thast 5 75 jobs.

I dont wana sound gimp but whms and cors dont need to be very pimped out to be very usefull. But except what youll get with that even if you have pimped out DD jobs if you have like whm cor rdm brd youll be asked to be those alot. If you dont wanna be stuck a whm whore 95% of the time dont lvl whm. TO be honest I really dislike whm like 90% of the time but alot of times I just suck it up because its what er need. For the sake of versitility I sacrifice my ability to play the jobs I like to play.

But I learned to like jobs for what they are I see whm as like the chill job all you need to know is what ailments to look for cast when needed easy job for a lazy person to play. But still requires some knowledge to be 1337 @

=P I'd like to say I have 4 well merited and fully equipped jobs. It's hard to say which gears better then others since more then often it's situational. But for End-game I think I'm well set.

Just play RDM, and be sure to have nothing but the best melee gear. Together we'll show all these fools that RDM can melee!!!!!

P.S. Don't do it, it's joke! <.<

Yuh, go with what's fun. ^^ For me, my one true love has always been and always will be RDM. But when my LS actually lets me take my THF out, I giggle and cackle with evil glee <.< I mean, no... right... THF's can't possibly keep up with normal DD... we can let them think that (well atleast pre-update did well ._. ). And I'm completely addicted to NIN atm XD

Ok, so I love playing FFXI period >.< tomorrow I'm back from vacation! back to gaming!

QFT of the millennium.

Also, not sure if it was brought up yet...but you can also take note that most jobs share the same line of better gear - many heavy DD typically use Haub or SH. All DD benefit from Sniper's, or Jaeger, or Rajas. They all can make great use of PCA or ChivaChain, or even Spike Necklace if lower level.

Quality > Quantity, but don't forget that many jobs use a lot of the same higher-end gear as well so you may wind up taking up less room than you think.
