Top Ten Overlooked Xbox 360 Games

There are a lot of great games out there that get overlooked for one reason or another. Whether it is because they are hard to find, got bad reviews, or just came out at a bad time of year, there are a lot of hidden gems out there that deserve to be played. Here is our list, in no particular order, of the ten best Xbox 360 games you probably haven't played.
1. Viva Pinata

Microsoft

At first glance, Viva Pinata is too cute and cuddly and kiddy and most people ignored it. But underneath the candy coated graphics is a game that is amazingly addictive and fun. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. Read Review

2. Shadowrun

Microsoft

Shadowrun has been overlooked by many because it is seen as a poor value. It is focused mainly on multiplayer, and $60 seems like a stretch. Of course, once you actually play it and see how incredibly fun it is, you'll definitely get your money's worth because this is a very solid Xbox Live FPS. http://erclk.about.com/?zi=3/LZN&env=alphaRead Review

3. Ridge Racer 6

http://erclk.about.com/?zi=3/PMr&env=alpha

Lost in the sea of good Xbox 360 launch titles, Ridge Racer 6 didn't sell well initially and was one of the first games to drop in price. So-so reviews paired with the excessive number of copies available scared people away who thought it wasn't a good game. But it is a good game. Dozens of cars. Hundreds of races. This game is huge and plays amazingly well.

4. Chromehounds

http://erclk.about.com/?zi=5/ULC&env=alpha

Sega

Another game where you either love it, or you haven't played it. It is a lot slower and more complex than most run-and-gun mech games, but it is a deeply satisfying game that sports an amazing online mode. http://erclk.about.com/?zi=8/gho&env=alphaRead Review

5. Enchanted Arms

http://erclk.about.com/?zi=7/TzX&env=alpha

Ubisoft

Enchanted Arms was knocked for being too cliché and not taking any risks, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good game. It has an interesting story and introduces gameplay aids such as fast forward and auto battle to speed up the pace of the game and keep things moving. Very underrated and underappreciated. http://erclk.about.com/?zi=5/dSd&env=alphaRead Review

6. Phantasy Star Universe

http://erclk.about.com/?zi=4/Ulh&env=alpha

SEGA

Another solid RPG that was overlooked in 2006. Most people don't even know that it has a full single-player mode in addition to the pay-to-play online game. The single-player plays out like an anime series, with each set of missions representing an episode of the show. Very cool, and well worth playing through. http://erclk.about.com/?zi=9/dUP&env=alphaRead Review

7. Just Cause

http://erclk.about.com/?zi=4/hlS&env=alpha

Eidos

Just Cause definitely deserved the poor review scores it got, because it is surprisingly buggy and not very polished, but that doesn't mean that it isn't still a lot of fun in spite of the problems. It is a go anywhere, do anything type of sandbox game, but it ups the ante a bit with a huge land area to explore, and a grappling hook/parachute combo that ensures you can go pretty much anywhere you want. http://erclk.about.com/?zi=8/Zbd&env=alphaRead Review

8. Dead or Alive Xtreme 2

http://erclk.about.com/?zi=8/Azu&env=alpha

Tecmo

DOA Xtreme 2 was knocked for not being enough of an improvement over the first game. But I have to completely disagree with that. It looks miles better, the volleyball is far better, and there are a ton of extra minigames and things to do. If you are a DOA fan, you'll love this game. Period. http://erclk.about.com/?zi=6/WqQ&env=alphaRead Review

9. Earth Defense Force 2017

http://erclk.about.com/?zi=5/UgJ&env=alpha

D3

It is a goofy budget game that looks kind of ugly, but nothing beats shooting hundreds of alien bugs and giant robots in one of the best pick-up-and-play games of the year. Play it in co-op for even more fun. http://erclk.about.com/?zi=1/uiF&env=alphaRead Review

10. WarTech: Senko no Ronde

http://erclk.about.com/?zi=5/JXP&env=alpha

Ubisoft

Senko no Ronde is almost too niche for its own good, but if you like anime, giant robots, shoot-em-ups, fighting games, or any combination of these, you'll love it.

Anyone have any to add?

THe ones that keep popping into my head probably aren't considered 360 games per say...but I know them as such, since I downloaded themoff of XBOX LIVE - but i am hooked on WORMS and CARCASSONNE

I keep hearing rave reviews about that damned Pinata game....but no one near me rents it, and I cannot bring myself to buy it before trying it. Anyone played it - what exactly is it like??? Why is it so fun???

I have it and it's addicting as hell lol. Its kinda like one of them tycoon games since you are trying to build and maintain something (garden in this case) and pokemon because you are trying to get (capture) pinatas for your garden (which you do by meeting certain requirements). You can breed pinatas to make new rare breeds, fix the garden up anyway you like. It's really one of those that no matter how you try to describe it, its not gonna make someone wanna go out and get it. you really have to just up and take the risk and play it to really see what the hype is all about.

Just Cause was so horrible but so much fun. Helicopter zip-lining, parachuting, seeing who could climb the highest and fall the farthest, etc made this game fun as hell, but the actual "missions" and such were kind of a drag.

My brothers played PSU non-stop for a few weeks. I never really got into it though. It was fun, but it seemed too repetitive.

I haven't tried Viva Pinata, but I've heard good things as well. Maybe I'll try to rent it.

Shadowrun, Enchanted Arms and PSU are the games I'm planning to get eventually when I go to University. It's a shame they are overlooked =/

I've played almost all of those either as demos, over a buddies house, or I own them. I can't agree with the list. Looking at it from my tastes people aren't missing much. Enchant Arm is a decent purchase at $30 or under. I am not a FPS fan so I am biased. I hear Shadowrun is a fun game but there aren't enough maps and variety of game match types or something like that.

I would add Dead Rising to the list. I will agree the beginning of the game is frustrating with it's unfriendly save system but once you level up it becomes a blast.

Then again it is all about taste. I could just have horrible taste. :p

I wouldn't call Dead Rising an "overlooked" game. I'm pretty sure everyone played that when it came out.

Viva Pinata is quite fun. It's kind of a "Sim" game, where you build a garden and raise pinatas instead of people or real animals or whatever. It requires a deceptively large amount of strategy to get things the way you want them and the achievements can be a pain to unlock.

Enchanted Arms didn't do anything for me. The battles take unnecessarily long amounts of time and the plot just isn't very gripping. PSU is fun offline but online is horrible. DOAX2 is fun and relaxing and all that, but the "one-handed controls" just make it not much of a game, really. Plus the AI can be ridiculously cheap sometimes and one loss can make your current partner hate you completely. I don't know if they patched it yet but there was an exploit to make infinite money in the casino that kinda helped this game out since making money is insanely tedious, but it still just gets old fast.

FarCry: The game was not great at all. Some incredible draw distances at times. BUT it is 2 FULL lenght games in one and i had alot of fun with this game. Again the game is pretty lame but it has to be cheap as hell now.

Overlord: This game was great. I had ALOT of fun with it. It reminds me of an old PS2 game Maximo. Only your cloths dont fall off as you lose health here;; But its got lots of humor and fun gameplay. Lots.

Condemned: One of best 360 games period. Was scary, mysterious ect lol. There are issues sure as there are with most the launch games. But if its cheap you MUST play this game. Get ready for part 2 anyways.

Hitman: I had alot of fun with this game also. It may not be no name game, but people didnt seem to care that it was released. Was fun, if you find it cheap try it out. Or rent.

Lost Planet: Probably one of the most underhyped games for 360. People just wrote it off and considered it a fail because it was ranked overall "a good game" by reviewers. Guess they were expecting GREAT! But whatever, Play this game. Its visually stunning at times, fine game mechanics and online slayer can be fun. If its cheap, AGAIN like most of these games pick it up.

Earth Defence Force: Like cheap JP movies? This game is great lol. Just a fun game most would say sucks.

I would recommend you rent these games instead of straight buying. Probably not worth the hefty price tags we pay now but $5 for a week and you will be happy about it.

Is that the game that used real actors as characters? I read somewhere that Josh Holloway (Sawyer from LOST) was in an XBOX 360 game, and haven;t been able to remember which one since.

I really liked this game. The only problem I had was with the difficulty. the levels themselves were way too easy, and (some) of the bosses were way too difficult. That flying butterfly-thing took me almost two hours to kill.

I definitely agree with Earth Defense Force and Viva Pinata. Both awesome games that no one really gave a shot. Chromehounds single player sucked, but is one of my favorite multiplayer games.

No, the game with real actors is C&C3, an RTS Game. Lost Planet is a 3rd person shooter.

And jender, we all now you aren't playing DOAX2 for the better mini-games and better volleyball, you're playing for the... "enhanced game mechanics" ;)

i second the OVERLORD nod and i give a HUGE nod to MONSTER MADNESS the reviews and the stupid demo out on live didnt do the game any justice. as for LOST PLANET that game wasn't all that you running around in the snow thats waist deep makes you basically power walk the entire game, unless your in a mech, and that was a cool part. i LOL at the thought of WAR TECH being on this list, 6 months of working at gamestop and round 4-5 that it has been out and not one single person has bought our single copy.

Wow- just rented the Pinata game last night....WAY more fun than expected (LOL @ mating dances <3) I think I am still in the training screen...please tell me there is a way to play it w/o the constant lessons. (I am playing on advanced-is there a way to start a new garden after you get the hang of the controls/characters?)

Yeah, <3 games like this every now and then....Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, Sims FTW when you get tired of playing OBLIVION, GEARS OF WAR, etc. Nice release.^^ THanks for the tip guys

you can create as many gardens as you like. As far as the tutorials and what not, I believe they only play through once, but im not 100% sure on that.

Project Sypheed: Arc of Deception.

It has a mix for me of star fox and dynasty warriors. Its decently cheap now even though it hasn't been out terribly long. The demo hasn't done it any justice, and it even has decent replay value. You can customize your own ship too.
