I recently left my home to go on a 'business trip' of sorts for the DoA when I found myself one day thinking about FFXI and how much time I have spent on it. I have been playing for over a year and a half. For the most part I love the experiences I have had, enjoyed playing with the friends that I have made and laughed as the people who don't like me have posted on the Flame Board ( KRONOS D: )
But I realized something sad. I have two characters (dont ask why I made two, I just did :/ ) with a combined total of over 320 days of playing. Now I admit that at least 20 of those days were in Bazaar but still... 300 + days is a hell of a long time. Its even more sad when I realize some of my closest friends have almost double that ( played since the JA release). But to think... 300 days that I probably played FFXI=:
Hours: 7,200
Net worth at $6 an hour : $43,200
Granted no one likes working overtime or whatever but still.. 43 grand is a lot of potential money wasted on playing FFXI. Is it really worth it to spend so much time playing one video game? When I read up on the new RPGs comming out and proclaiming that they are 50hour-70hour games, I look back at the 7,200 that I have probably spent on FFXI.... Well over 100X more time than a typical console RPG.
