I rented this on a whim after seeing the movie, and I have to give everyone fair warning, this game fairly sucks.
The transformations, of course, are cool, but the game fails in almost every other aspect.
Controls:
-Absolute pain in the ass. The sticks are so sensative, if your trying to pick something up and even nudge it a little, you will face the opposite direction, missing your pickup and leaving yourself open to attack.
-Flying as Blackout is fairly easy, but for Megatron and Starscream, they are some of the worst controls I have ever seen for a jet.
-In vehicle mode for car forms, (Bumblebee, Barricade, etc.), the game plays like a poor, sluggish version of Grand Theft Auto.
Graphics:
-Not really bad. The CG movies really suck though.
-Many of you recall how the final battle scene in the movie was too fast, and how it was hard to tell what was going on. Well, this game is pretty much that towards the end.
Replay Value:
-Non existant. You unlock little extras for completing certain goals, but they are usually only movie clips or still images. Nothing that add to the origonal game.
-Both factions get a bonus mission at the end, where you fight drones on Cybertron. This level is so dissapointingly easy.
Sound:
-No complaints.
Difficulty:
-This is one of those games that you will breeze through some parts, and chuck your controller through the screen at others. (The Ironhide fight while playing as Blackout....grrrrr)
-Some levels stick you in a small area where if you leave for too long, you fail the mission. These "arenas" are usually small and leave very little maneuvering room. They also completely void the usefulness of vehicle mode.
Other:
-Environments are completely destructable. This is a pro when playing as Decepticons (where you gain points) but is a total hinderance when playing as Autobots. (where you lose points for property damage.)
-Seeing as the movie lacked minor Autobot/Decepticon soldiers to kill, the creators of the game saw it fit to add Autobot/Decepticon drones. This, of course, threw most of the story completely out of whack when compared to the movie story.
Its worth a rent if you need a transformers fix, but otherwise, there isnt really much else to expect.
3/5 (and thats being generous)
