COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and a popular disc jockey were critically injured in a Learjet crash in South Carolina that killed four people, authorities said Saturday.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane went off a runway and crashed on a nearby road, she said.

Hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits said Barker and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, were in critical condition at a burn center in Augusta, Ga., about 75 miles southwest of Columbia.

Two other passengers and two crew members died, said the National Transportation Safety Board. Their identities were not immediately available.

Barker and Goldstein, who perform together under the name TRVSDJ-AM, played a free concert in Columbia's college neighborhood Friday night.

"It's absolutely terrible and tragic," Columbia Mayor Bob Coble said.

A representative for Barker and DJ AM said she had no information the crash.

After Blink 182, Barker went on to form the rock band (+44) — pronounced "plus forty-four." He starred in the MTV reality series "Meet the Barkers" with former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, to whom he was married at the time. The show documented the former couple's lavish wedding and life.

Goldstein at one time was engaged to celebrity Nicole Richie.

Crazy. Rumored that Perry Ferrell and Gavin DeGraw were also sharing travel accommodations with these two, but that's all just speculation. I hope they are alright, I love Travis.
 
I was told about this when I woke up this morning, crazy shit.

I was told that Travis has burns from the waist down, and DJ AM had burns over his face. DJ AM was airlifted to the hospital, but Travis was not.

Other than the pilot/copilot, one of the unidentified people who died was Travis personal assistant.
 
Two other passengers — Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif., and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles — died, as did pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, according to the county coroner. Baker was an assistant to Barker and Still was a security guard for the musician.

What's funny is that he'd consider it an insult to be called a punk drummer. In an article in Modern Drummer years ago he stated that fact. I think he's definitely one of my favorite drummers. I think his work on "Adam's Song" from Blink 182 is awesome. I hope that both men recover quickly. If you look at the pictures it's really amazing that anyone survived.
 
He was punk, not 80's punk, but 90s punk. What else would you call Blink 182's style?

Rock? No. Alternative? No.
 
Pop punk imo, but a genre of punk to say the least.

Dude Ranch was their best album, but that's pre-Travis and before they changed to the mainstream sound.
 
I was just quoting something he said about himself in an interview a long time ago. I think in 2003? I'd have to get my issue of Modern Drummer out to tell you when he said it. He's done alternative rock, hip-hop, and other stuff that isn't punk. He didn't want to be labeled a punk drummer because of the stigma in the drumming community because a lot of drummers find punk music easy to play. He is definitely more talented than the average punk drummer and I wish he would show it off a bit more.

Nothing against Blink 182 but singing about girls, blowjobs, and suicide does't exactly consititue a "punk" band. Not to start the genre label game, or the infinite debate on whos punk and whos not. Blink is far from punk though.

Theres no point in arguing the fact, a fact it is. Blink 182, was in no shape or form a punk band. :cool:

Its also possible he didn't want to be labled a punk drummer because.... hes not.
Blink 182, +44 the Transplants, Box car racer... and the various other bands he is/was were not punk bands.

I would agree with Prop. They're pop punk not core punk like the Clash or the Ramones.

Im having a hard time classifying them, if you have a better genre please let me know since my brain is farting atm.
