Treasure Casket Cracking

It's not hard to do but this guy's guide on wiki cracked me up. Look at it close. This is entertainment. Most of the time you can just get away with all hints then end up with 1,2, or 3 possible choices. Others do the half way guess... 50 25 12 6 3. people have their methods.

This guys seemed so sure of himself that I started writing it down. I was going to win. Then when I was writing it down, I noticed some funnies.

Ok in my time of fiddling with these treasure caskets i have ran the numbers and have figured out this much...this guide is based off the first hint you get IF you check for the first hint

You have a hunch that the second digit is even: If it tells you this there's a 25% chance the anwser is 26, a 25% chance the awnser is 54, and a 50% chance the awnser is 72.

You have a hunch that one of the digits is 2: There's a 15% chance the answser is 20, a 60% chance the anwser is 72, and a 25% chance the awsner is 54.

You have a hunch that the second digit is 3: There's a 10% chance thew awnser is 53, and a 25% chance the answer is 53, and a 65% chance the answer is 73.

In the second hint he says you have a 25% chance that the answer is 54, if the hint is one of the digits is 2. The answer cannot be 54.

In the third hint he says you have both a 10% chance AND a 25% chance that the answer is 53. You can't really have two different %'s for the same number.

Wow. Didn't know I had to explain. I just wanted to see other people's methods for cracking and found a guide on ffxi wiki. His guide was so full of errors that it was humorous.

I think it's funny when the hint says "One of the digits is 2" so a possible correct answer is "54".

He's basically saying that the guy who wrote the article apparently didn't look back at what he was typing.. that or was just typing it up in an attempt to just make a guide that sounded good.
I've started to do a few 'hints', until I can nail the possibilities down to 3 or less. For example.. tonight, I've gotten a few brown caskets (so far, just containing Potion +1s and ores). -.-; Anyway.. I had one saying that the first number is 5, 6, or 7 and another hint saying the second was 6, 7, or 8. So.. I put in 68, and got that it was higher than that. I had 3 tries left, so perfect! I tried 77, and 'ding!'. Basically, it's just a matter of trying to thin out the possibilities to a more manageable level. But yeah.. that guide's pretty funny. ^^
