All I wanted to do was get F.E.A.R. running on my PC again. So I go to a website that I got from Google.......BAM, Your PC is infected. Click here to purchase Ad-ware that can remove this threat. So I restart to safe mode and start up Lavasoft. No luck the "Virus" is still there. So I click on the box and see what this virus want's me to buy. Pest??? Well what do you know, being on the DoD payroll I get all this adware software for free. I log into my AKO on my laptop and start to download the software, burn it to disk and load it up on my PC. I do a scan and find 5 critical errors. No problem right??? DELETE.

"The virus has circumvented your PCs protection devices"?????? WTF, I think to myself. So I load up another remover and run another scan. Still there. I have now gone through 5 different types of software and still have this damn program on my PC, taunting me, with a big red box and a little green wheelchair that is making me think more and more how I want to park in every handicapped spot I ever see for the rest of my life.

So now I sit with my laptop looking up definitions and file names to run through my PC in endless searches for this damn rouge program that no virus software will pick up no matter what the paramiters of the search are.

God I wish I could just reach through the PC sometime and rip out the trachea of the assclown that writes viruses for anti-virus companies, just to force people to buy their shitty ass product.

I will not give in though. This program will be wiped clean of my PC if I have to stay up until tomarrow night hunting down every .exe and system file related to this shameless buisness tactic and then I'm going to boycott every company that this fucking thing tells me to buy to rid my PC of this problem.

Yeah. Actually that is the page that I copied the title to this thread from. I've been working on this problem on and off most of the day. Had to stop to play some Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. The biggest problem right now I'm having is that none of the registry items that page posts are showing up in my registry. Wether it is missing a few on that page or not, I have no idea so now it's a long and tedious search for anything that doesn't belong on my PC.

/em prepares himself for a long day of formating and reinstalling....

Wait, did you actually believe what the pop up said? Those are made to look real so you'll click them and install their software which is really just adware itself.

Morale of the story: never try to pirate with google. Torrents and lan parties are the smart way. Any pirate source besides those on the net are just loaded with adware and trojens. You'll spend more time trying to clean up your computer (and eventually reformating) than it would have taken you to earn the money and buy what you were trying to pirate.

You know you would be better off just reinstalling Windows, but you probably just want advice from lv 75 techs.

Also, piracy is bad, stop going to Russian sites, next time buy it! :p

If you have System Restore active just role it back to the day before it happened. I know what site you're talking about and had the same thing happen to me... this fixed it, no adaware program would find it.

See the problem isn't that I believed what the popup said, it's the fact that I now have this program on my PC and it's hidden pretty damn well. I wasn't triing to pirate through Google, I was triing to find a forum where people trade in CDkeys. I already have the game and tools needed to run it. I now have the key I need though.

My restore date is about 3 weeks old and with all the updates to FFXI, BF2 and a few other games that I have on my PC it would take just as long to just wipe and take care of a few other things I wanted to do with shuffling of programs off of my main HD to storage.

Heh, you were looking for CDkeys...... Im forced to agree with everyone else, karma indeed.

***DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A COMPUTER GURU***

this sounds similar to a trojan I had on my laptop. I had a virus called trojan.vundo which can have several name variations (yours looks familiar). I tried for hours to clean it up. I found a clean up tool that had me all set in 30 mins.

I am not sure this is the same issue, but it may be worth looking into.

Trojan? Virus?

You can mention it all you want. We even had a long thread once discussing the morality of pirating. He just doesn't allow any links or discussion on how to obtain pirated software.
