I gotta say, I've never seen Lego go overboard. I enjoy his humor and how random it is and how he doesn't over use it. I dunno if he was maybe in the FFXI threads doin' it, but in other threads I can't remember ever seein' enough to sling yer dick over. Then again', if he did do somethin' in the FFXI sections, well, we all know how *a lot* (not all) of them like to keep a tight ass most of the time. Makin' a thread for somethin' like "Hi X yer mum haz hot thies" I can see a reason to remove that shit, it's a waste of space, but not deletin' it from a thread if it's not to out of hand.

Anyway, though this place isn't as bad as it could be, one way or the other, I think a lot of people need a reality check though. I'm not sure if it is still this way since a lot of the uber douche mods stepped out or got dropped, but it's worth my two cents anyway. This is the internet, nobody cares if you have one liners or IGE ads (torch), and if they do, they need to check their shit quick before they wake up 40, bald, and still havin' to grip it every night. If people want serious strats and die hard info, that is what the BG forums are for (though there is a lot of good stuff here too). This place, though some may not want to realize it or not, isn't just a FFXI forum, it's a lot more. What began as a FFXI forum has turned into more of a group of people who still enjoy fightin' and talkin' with each other about anything and everything, to be honest, it's rare and people should be more grateful for this than butt hurt over havin' a WoW forum stuck to their FFXI forum.

So in short, though I do appreciate the work that goes into keepin' a forum I frequent up and secure, I think less time could be spent here and more time spent doin' other things. This isn't Russia, it isn't work, it's suppose to be fun and stressless, for the most part. Don't over do it, if you even are in the first place.

I'm not sure what Neos post constituted, but you also deleted Zephayra saying her BF drank chocolate milk for breakfast and cost her $8 for it, and me asking what kind of person drinks $8 worth of chocolate milk, but leave http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showpost.php?p=1042379&postcount=42 alone?

Which one of those is really the problematic shitpost, and which is merely a tangent to the topic(Ludicrous spending on SOs,) huh? It's worthless to try to keep a post going in a single line. You curb more discussion than you promote. A topic doesn't have to mean one discussion per thread, and it's literally more hassle than it's worth to try to enforce such a silly sentiment.

It's nice to have mods. It's not nice to have mods that are over enthusiastic about throwing that power around by controlling how a discussion must be carried out. This is about the point where Godwin's Law could be invoked, but honestly, it really is fascist behavior in motion.

Edit: In case it gets deleted because I called it out, the post is Dejavu posting 2 images of the donkey show scene from Clerks 2, and nothing else.

That post was completely on topic as far as a response to this statement 2 people ahead of my post. (should of been one which is why i didn't quote it but someone snuck a post in there

Damn, do you know how much..."FUN" you could've had with that money down in TJ?

............
I dunno what else to say....

The donkey show reference was completely relevant to the "FUN" you can have in Tijuana.

And the $8 chocolate milk comments were about how expensive relationships are. But hey, it got deleted, yours didn't, and that's my entire point. It's not so much the images you posted, it's that you didn't post anything at all but the images that makes it a shitpost. The italics were meant for emphasis.

This is true. QCDN is a lot more than the sum of its parts. It did retain some of its FFXI strategy roots, but now-a-days it's just as much a good ol' boys FFXI country club and retirement home.

Still, rules are rules - I think it'd be better to alter/repeal any inconvenient rules, rather than choose to look the other way, for the sake of fairness. My philosophy when thinking about this sort of situation, is replace the offender's name with the name of the forums' newest member, and decide what you'd do if s/he was the one banned. Then decide if it's the banning that gets you riled or the recipient of the ban that gets you riled. If you wouldn't have cared if the banned spammer was a newb, I'm not sure it's right to care if the banned spammer is a vet. It's still the same violation.

That said, I wouldn't be opposed to a lighter stance on spammy posts, but that said, I wouldn't be opposed to things staying the same. Spammy posts are just something I've become indifferent to after so many years on the internet. No matter how bad QCDN gets, it'll never be worse than other places I have to visit. Even at its strictest, QCDN has never been as strict as some of the places I visit. It always hovers around a happy medium. QCDN is a well cooked meal. All the staff and community need to do is agree on how much salt and pepper to add to taste.

To your observation, maybe. I can assure you it's much more than that.

There are entire communities devoted to different consoles and their fanbase, other games entirely (WoW forum), anime fans and con-goers, among other things that hardly qualify as a "FFXI Quetzalcoatl Good ol' Boys Network".

Or, as a Moderation Team we could just look at it objectively, and not place names with the actions at all, which is what's been done all along.

Exactly, which is why I get a kick out of seeing "OMG OVERMODERATION" posts and threads.

I'd shudder to think what would happen to some people on QCDN if they visited some of the tech forums I do; however, they probably act completely different there than here.

Miros, i got nothing against you and im not trying to be rude or offensive, i know you were once a moderator, but i dont think you are anymore, if i may suggest it would be best to let the current moderation staff answer to these peoples questions and for them to deal with it, since theyre the ones who this is aimed at.

Not trying to be an ass, please dont take it personal, i know you want to defend mods but i dont think you should keep doing if your no longer a mod yourself.

No offense taken, but I just made a pretty blue name for myself now and I guess I need to elaborate stuff a little more. Since Make and Arc have been pretty busy with stuff irl and we just had the update to 3.8 come out, I told them I'd help with the template changes and fix up the social groups. So I guess I'm what you would call an interim administrator right now since those two are basically indisposed the whole day. So while it seemed that Lego and other people had some questions in regards to the social group areas, I figured I'd answered them.

Not taking it personal, but I guess I'm going to say it here and now that I am working in the background trying to get these boards fixed up style-wise and if any mod or liaison has any questions then I'll definitely give them guidance.

Some people deserve to be called stupid bitches though. It's not my fault people are retarded, I'm just not afraid to call em out on it. It's also not my fault that not everyone has my same sense of humor and doesn't understand what a joke is. Just because a few people get sticks up their asses about a joke I make is no reason to cater to those whiney assholes and delete it.

Also, I rarely say anything that's "waaay out of hand". Some of my posts may be in a moral gray area to some, but very very few of them are way out of hand. At least, that's the way I see it. Mods should infract based on intention, not perception. It's usually not my intention to offend anyone with the jokes I make, so I don't understand why A. People get offended, and B. I get punished for it.

Example: I recently made a "racist" joke in RSI. Everyone in the thread could tell it was just a light-hearted joke....save for Sneakypants. Just because one person "doesn't get it" is no reason for a fuckin infraction.

P.S. SAF? ..which one is that? Oh, and I'm honored you remember some of my specific infractions. I love making an impact on my local forum admins ^^b

The gray area though is where trouble usually happens. :p What you may see as a light hearted joke, other people saw as something more. And mods will usually infraction based on perception not intention. If someone posts a bunch of porn and say "well I was just making a joke and it was funny to me!" probably wouldn't fly. Some of your posts got out of hand when you started getting infractions but all I can say is you were probably the flavor of the month for reports. It seems that people have calmed down since then and taken a lighter view on your posts.

And for your P.S. - SAF is the Support and Feedback forum. And don't feel too honored that I remembered your specific infractions, all I have to do is click on your username and there they are. :p

I'm not going to make this a super analytically brilliant post.

WTF is wrong with all you people??

1 Mod Bashing -

1a) wtf is that, follow the rules.. fuck they're in our every day. Don't follow them feel the wrath.. blah blah omgmodshoulddie. Seriously it's a god damn forum. Everyone is welcome here to read some rather interesting opinions.

1b) If your only interest is trolling and you get a temp ban for it, move onto your other umpteen troll boards til your punishment is lifted here.

2 Trolling -

2a) yeah.. it was said.. there are social boards, go fucking nuts. You want the entire community to be witness to random spam posts you throw up in Reality bites and get burned for doing it.. *see 'Mod Bashing' subsection 1b*

har har fucking har.

WHY do these discussion keep coming up, I don't know about the rest of this forums members, I've only been a QCDN member for 2 years, I've managed to keep my head out of the shit bowl but I have seen this exact complaint god only knows how many damn times.

Drop it.. how many changes need to be made?? No one.. NO ONE can make 1000+ self righteous pompous interdweeb fucking happy no matter how many majority votes or poles are taken.

GAWD

BTW.. I'm being a smartass for the most part but there's a bit of truth in my annoyance.

I think there's a MASSIVE number of people that frequent these sites that REALLY need a hobby. I'm generalizing.. there's no specific individual I have in mind >.> at this point anyway.

Some of your posts got out of hand when you started getting infractions but all I can say is you were probably the flavor of the month for reports. It seems that people have calmed down since then and taken a lighter view on your posts.
That's why I take breaks from qcdn. If I'm around too long people start to get annoyed I guess, so I take a break and let them forget how much fun it is to hate on me.

And for your P.S. - SAF is the Support and Feedback forum. And don't feel too honored that I remembered your specific infractions, all I have to do is click on your username and there they are. :p
Oh, I knew I couldn't be stupid enough to not find anything with the initials SAF. I guess it's SFAA technically now though :P
And how come you can see which posts I was infracted for but I can't? My page just looks like this to me:
qcdninfractions.jpg

And that top one doesn't count. It's the only one I can see but in that case I wasn't even infracted for that post. That was the time I was infracted for a VM I left.

Lots of stuff here

I don't exactly know where to start. Nice rage going on there. I like the all the junior high insults. The "little bitch", EYE EM OH, was pretty classy. I'm surprised you didn't text message me saying "u r so stpd. c u l8r alig8r". As far as saying who sent the PM, I tried to avoid that as long as I could and I only actually said it when Miros thought it was him I was talking about AND THAT AINT GONNA FLY CUS MIROS AND I BEEN BRAHS FOREVER, BRAH. I also don't have anything against any other mod. I just think it's really silly to act all hard and thuggish on the internet. There's no reason for anyone to be a silly goose!

Uhh, let's see. Oh, nice job quoting me and putting Attention whore under the quotes. No really, you found a complete paradox and the gates of Hell opened up. Your analogies are boring as hell, BRAH. I could write a whole bunch more about the post but I'm gonna go have a sandwich. CHECK YA LATER BRAH.

Calm the fuck down. I don't think he knows what analogies are. So I'll explain.

a⋅nal⋅o⋅gy [uh-nal-uh-jee]

–noun, plural -gies.

1. a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based: The analogy between a bear and a cock.

2. similarity or comparability: I see no analogy between the size of your dick compared to my bear sized dick.

3. Logic. a form of reasoning in which one thing is inferred to be similar to another thing in a certain respect, on the basis of the known similarity between the things in other respects.

That concludes today's vocabulary lesson for dummies. Please, continue in this heated debate now.

Alright, fair enough that makes sense. I just felt it may be unfair for you to be taking the heat if you werent part of the moderation staff, but seems like you still are, my mistake then bro.

My turn.

In the time I have had to actually put some effort towards this, I have compiled an initial response. I have more. A LOT more. However, I don't have the time to finish that up till Tuesday or Wednesday. So for now, I'll leave you with this to digest for the weekend. Try and check your emotions at the log in screen. kthnx.

Ah, QCDN. The land of tough-to-follow rules and no fun. And it was branded as such by a handful of folks that define “fun” as anything and everything asinine. Naturally, their brand of asinine must bombard any forum and any thread as they see fit. To Hell with rules and common sense. To Hell with warnings, past or present.

The “backlash” endured by such fun-loving folks is, in reality, mere enforcement of existing, and known forum rules. You see, everyone makes choices in their lives. Choices may be truly difficult or have a profound effect on one’s life, and choices may also be no-brainers, or common every day decisions, like asking one’s self, “Self, what nifty stuff can I post on the Intarwebz today?”

Speaking further to choices, we can segue to patterns. In this case, patterns are defined as repeated behaviors. These are repeated behaviors that every individual selectively exhibits. Or, every individual freely makes their individual choices day after day, ultimately trending behaviors via what are their “true colors”. Patterns are a very important concept in what’s recently transpired.

“The straw that broke the camel’s back” and “give em’ an inch, they take a mile” are familiar expressions that will also apply as we look at patterns. These expressions apply to what took place in the following way:

Certain users, the ones recently banned, as well as others that are still being reviewed, have been given grace time and time again by the moderation team(s). Yet, they persist in their behavior. Not over the course of a week, involving a thread or two. We are looking at years of this behavior. Truly, a pattern. By not upholding the rules sooner, these users have been allowed to get away with repeated poor judgments, which leads us to the straw that broke the camel’s back. At some point, all the incidents have added up and the decision is made, based on years of pattern behavior, to call and end to it. Enough is enough.

I encourage the user base to challenge how these bannings are somehow radically different from other bannings. Who has an issue with these bannings specifically? Why? Don’t just gripe. Explain yourself. After all, for the entire moderation team, these were not just snap decisions, but rather deliberate decisions made only after thorough discussion and examination as a group. Just because one of us actually handled the banning doesn’t mean that it was that one person’s doing. These are group decisions, and rightfully so.

I’d like to point out a difference in the recent bannings versus another fairly recent banning, as I use Amerie as a compare/contrast example. All the users in question got banned for essentially the same thing. Excessive/inappropriate posts, time and time again. There’s a major difference I see here though. In this instance, there are a handful of people who have a gripe with these recent bannings, although they are in fact no different from past bannings in any way. Amerie’s banning was followed by zero gripes, and additionally, it was followed by a good bit of praise. Again, these cases are essentially the same.

What could the difference be? Really, it’s just a degree of popularity and friends. I’m not trying to pick on Amerie, but she did herself no favors and it showed as the complete and utter lack of people showed up to defend her. Now, we have a handful of people that would choose to defend their friends. Folks, the things they have done are banworthy. It’s pretty surprising that it didn’t happen earlier, but again, I go back to the previous ideas I touched on in that regard. Amerie’s ban wasn’t permanent. However, actions of the past don’t just disappear. Just as these recent bannings were cases of the last straw breaking the camel’s back, should she return to post at QCDN not having learned anything and choosing not to follow the rules, then the same thing awaits. That’s objective treatment. It has nothing to do with how many or few friends you’ve got.

If after reading the few thoughts I have had the time to think about and type out over the past couple days, there is still question as to why the bannings occurred and what makes them legitimate, I would direct you to the guidelines of the FB that have been stickied and available for anyone’s review. Particularly these portions:

“Re-addressing:
Threadcrapping and Derails - Its not the cool thing to do. When threads go off topic from one flame to another "flame" then thats one thing. When threads go off topic from a flame to a picture posting festival, then threads will be cleaned and or locked. Your PC +1's will be likely taken care of as well. Any "/grabs popcorn" or "hurr hurr, he said the f word" posts will normally be cleared. If a flame can be carried on without skipping a beat after your post has been deleted, then it's probably going to be deleted.

If you become a regular issue on this after a few times don't be surprised if you receive a warning and if it further continues, light infractions.

This is something that was also to be re-addressed because of the requests for locks due to several ridiculous derailments and incessant spamming.

Final Word:
Global Moderators/Admins - Situations will arise that these rules will not cover. Before, being biased was noted depending on your past behavior and your standing on the boards. Now, with a new crackdown to clean up certain parts of the forum, everyone will be treated the same.

Pretty cut and dry, especially when coupled with the FB rules, and witness of previous/similar bans.

Although the recent bannings may seem like people just got banned for nothing, it is much more than that. Additional examples will follow, if necessary, to detail further why these are cases of the straw breaking the camel’s back. Even the first few rules within the link that cover more serious issues were part of the history of the recent bannings. Users will not get banned because they have spammed a thread or two over the course of a couple days. That doesn’t mean it’s ok, as is clearly written in the guidelines. Spamming and threadcrapping alone will only warrant “light infractions” as the guidelines call for. However, repeated behavior, patterns, will yield greater infractions over time. Add to the mix more serious issues from the past, and this is the result. As I mentioned before, it’s kind of a wonder that this didn’t happen earlier. It should have. Everyone would do well, especially those that really struggle with understanding what it takes to receive a ban, to review the entirety of the rules within the above link.

The colors Duke, the colors!

No seriously, using black was fail. Should fix that SneakyP. It's really hard to read without highlighting the whole damn thing.

But I guess I'll take the time to read it and highlight the whole thing. White and Red and Green and Blue, they work, black, not so much.

Sup. I'm a troll.

Why should any website change moderation policy for a troll and his banned friends ? Go find your laughs somewhere else if these people are to boring for you and your clever friends brah. If you don't like McDonalds then go to Burgerking, Ronald doesn't give a shit but I hear the king is a slut.

Like when you might enjoy that others get banned, but not your firends...Thing is, I took a couple days to think about this as it's the duty I agreed to. I've got something to say about the thread YOU started. Isn't this what you wanted? Here we are talking about it now. And then you respond like this to me. Not that I expected anything but bullshit from you. Trust me when I say, there's not a lot of PC modtalk left. I'm not gonna play with you.

There'll be plenty more backfiring headed your way if you want it.

Is there really that big a difference between dark blue and black? lol

I guess there is. I'm using the Blackmage forum skin and that black text is really hard to read, blue shows up as blue and while dark blue isn't exactly easy on the eyes it is still more readable that black on a purple background.
