Ok, I've yet to see a thread all about the discussion of Zelda:TP so I'm making one - YAY for this game! I love it I love it I love it. I love the fact that it's alot like WindWaker, same music, sound bleeps, controls, etc, I love the familiarity. There are few games that can get away with being the same thing every time(EX: Metroid, Zelda), but they're allowed to do it because the game is so unbelievably good that no one wants it to change, people will keep playing the same thing over and over because it's that good. By the way I got the GC version, so that's what I'm talkin about here. I doubt it's much different than the Wii version though, except for maybe controls of course and graphics, although I'm liking the graphics on this one alot, it looks like WW without the cell-shaded effect. Oh and Hyrule Plains' skyline looks fuckin sweet. I got to the first dungeon and immidiately thought - Doku Tree, and for good reason, pretty much the same only with bare-ass monkeys helpin you out along the way. I noticed too that they combined an aspect of the doku leaf with the boomerange in this one...I just remember though that you could float with the leaf, had to add "an aspect of" to that last sentence...

I love the fact that you get a horse in this one too, ridin that bitch around is fun times, which brings me to the main reason I made this thread*smallspoiler* - where the fuck did that whore go? I just finished the first dungeon level and have gotten to Hyrule plain and still no damn horse, I'm gettin pissed off, what good is having a horse if you only get him for an couple hours? Does anyone know when/if I get her back? cause I'd really like to know - ok *end spoiler*.

I do have to say I'm not so crazy about being a wolf in the twilight though. The way it's all set up is excellent, I'm not saying it's bad gameplay, I would just prefer to be Link the entire time. And it doesn't bother me so much that it makes me not want to play it, I still enjoy playing when I'm in wolf form, but who knows, maybe it'll turn out to be more fun this way, a little change at least.
As I said I'm not too far in, but this game is looking very promising, can't wait for another 10 hour stretch tomorrow.

He said he got it for GC.

Excalibr: you can call the horse using the U-shaped plants.

oh, and just because -

Zelda isn't an RPG and thus technically isn't fit for discussion on this board.

Only one boy can save the world? Check.
Can change armor? Check.
Can change weapons? Check.
Involving and intruiging storyline? Check.
Silent main character? Check.
Complicated and diverse menu system? Check.
At least one boss made of lava and/or a dragon? Check.
Typical evil laugh villian? Check.

I could go on. Zelda is considered an RPG-Adventure. It's fine where it is.

I agree with you Ex, this game rocks. Wait until you get past the first dungeons. Things get crazy.

Even Nintendo themselves don't classify Zelda as an RPG. It's an adventure.

It's an action rpg. It just has a simplistic leveling system (hearts). In no way is it not an RPG like any other real-time action rpg.

And still, no one fucking cares.

Anyway, this game does seem like the spiritual successor to Zelda: TooT. It does have a music system employed at random places in the game (no where near the amount as TooT, but still there) along with some VERY interesting new twists on the same old armor. Is it just me or has Zelda used the same items since A Link to the Past? Though, I have to say, making puzzles out of the metal boots and magnetic rock is something ingenius. Kudos, Big N, kudos.

I'm about to cross some stone bridge into another twilight area on the Hyrule Plain, and I've gotta say I'm really warming up to the wolf deal, I guess it just took some time but I'm gettin into it. Oh fuck and that battle on horseback on the plain against those goblin hog rider dudes, that was fuckin epic. This game keeps gettin better. I got Epona back btw,(no thanks to you all) in that K-somethin town next to the Goron mountain...man, I can't remember a name to save my life right now. I was happy to see the Gorons again too, them bitches is sweet.
Ok, off to more playing.

Oh yeah, I feel stupid asking but, can someone explain, in depth,(or a link to somewhere that does) how the hell I work those howling stones? I thought I understood what I had to do, but I've tried a dozen times and nothin sticks. And I should have only come across one(after the automatic one) at this point in the game, correct?

There's high pitch, medium pitch, and low pitch. Press up for high pitch. Touch nothing for medium pitch. Press down for low pitch. Match the pitches with the howled melody. Does that make sense?

To be fair, every game out there has RPG elements now, sports games have including leveling and stats for quite a while now, some shooters are being made in the same line as Deus Ex, meaning they use gear stats and equipment.

Platformers like metriod and castlevania have gear and stats too.

So while Zelda was definetly and RPG back in the day, now that most games have more RPG elements than it I would say it isn't anymore.

CLIFFS: It's circumstantial, RPG or not it's an adventure game.

So is Diablo a RPG? What about Guild Wars? How about the Elder Scrolls series? Kingdom Hearts? Fable? The Mana series? The Gothic series? Shadowrun for the 16bit systems? The Tales series?

What defines a RPG game?

A complex story?
A detailed battle system?
The ability to become stronger?
The ability to change equipment?

I always have and always will classify Zelda as an RPG.

Metroid.

You could go as far as to say that Super Metroid had a diverse menu system, and the map screen for the Primes is complicated. As for Evil laugh? Well, Dark Samus could pull one off.

Oh, and you can "level up" in the form of Energy Tanks.

Actually, everything for Metroid I just checked can be put in to the Mega Man universe as well.

Are Mega Man and Metroid RPGs?

While we're at it, let's call Myst a First Person Shooter.

On top of everything else you use the second fucking T, lol. /petpeeve There's no "The", it's just Ocarina of Time!

oh and Skaw said what I was going to. D=

Jesus no wonder I had no clue what TooT was(fartlol), I was rackin my brain >.>; It's OoT you bastards.
I'll always consider Zelda to be an RPG series too, back in the NES days it was one of the first games to pave the way for the RPG world.
I think what determines an RPG more than anything is the storyline. If the game plays largely off of the story, if they're giving you new breaks in the stryline often enough, it can be considered an RPG. Like with Metroid, the story isn't that complex, you get an important cutsceen maybe half a dozen times throught the entire game, but for the most part your on your own just going through the levels.
I think too, up until the last several years, the battle system affected what we saw as RPG and not. If a game was turn-based, it was an RPG. But lately, with games like KH and XII, they're finding ways to break away from that while still retaining that RPG quality, so it's harder to determine whats what.

Yeah I got that much. After I posted I went back on and figured it out, you gotta hold the pitch the length of the line, I was trying to change pitches right away.

I just like writing TooT. Is that so wrong?
