Okay I've had this dicussion with many friends and family members in the past and I wanted to see what everyone else thinks. To some, this may be apples to oranges, but the way I see it. Theyre both 1v1 fighting competitions. I wanted to create a discussion to see which sport is better. Some things to consider:

  • Action
  • Entertainment Level
  • Technique
  • International Audience
  • Variety of Audience (Ages, Sex)
  • Which would YOU pay to see?

I personally am gonna have to go with UFC and MMA. Boxing seems to be a dying sport with a few spurts here and there such as Manny Paquiao(sp) and his dominance in his class. However, Boxing is 12 rounds, a much longer fight, can sometimes have rounds of being slow and boring, alot of tying up and so on.

The UFC is a fast paced sport with normal matches being Three 5-Minute Rounds, and Championship bouts being Five 5-Minute rounds. UFC also features a variety of fighting styles that every fighter must prepare for, you can be punched, kicked, submitted. UFC also has a younger audience, which could equal to it being the fighting sport of the future.

The biggest reason i can't really get in to UFC is because most matches are just too short. Often times the montage of previous fights is longer then the actual fights. Plus in UFC, everyone seems like they are always undefeated.

UFC hands down.

Boxing bores me, at least heavyweight. I don't mind light weight but I still can't sit through a full match.

Boxing all the way.

i prefer UFC cause i have a short attention span and normally in boxing matches by like the 4th or 5th round im like what is going on. Not to mention i like watching people get knocked out and that seems much more probable in UFC. Also its kinda interesting when you have two fighters of completely different style against each other.

For the love of god it is MMA not UFC. UFC is an MMA organization.

For me it is MMA because it takes more than just one form of martial arts to succeed.

I know its MMA not UFC, but i put UFC because its BY FAR the leader in MMA organizations, and the one thats destroying boxing.

I choose UFC even though i have been a fan of Boxing for a long period of time. There is no reward in UFC for fighting like a coward were there clearly is one in Boxing.

Pretty Boy Floyd is the perfect example of whats wrong with Boxing right now. I am trying to become a UFC fan just because of how disgusted i am with Boxing now a days.

I'm frankly indifferent towards either. The fun is in the doing, not the watching.

Though at least with boxing I don't have to put up with hordes of unwashed fanboys screeching about how amazing and brutal their preferred watching material is.

The UFC is only big in North America...Dream kills it in Asia. Strikeforce, Affliction, WEC are all huge companies that follow in MMA too just because you don't bother to look outwards doesn't mean the rest of the world doesn't.

UFC, very few boxing matches interest me, but Makelith is right, UFC fights are way too short. It's like wheeee i just paid $49.99 or whatever and he knocked him out in 30 seconds.

Fights can be short, but sometimes the short ones are the most memorable where as I've actually sighed 'finally' after a boxing match ended.

But there are multiple fights, which add some variety.

I don't know, the most boxing I've ever enjoyed watching were lightweights, cause those suckers are craazy.

Boxing, just because of the fact that a great boxing match is better than a great MMA match to me.

I think MMA was better when it was actually fighting style vs fighting style, but I may be bias because I study Karate.

They fill you with fights, because they have more fights than what would fit during a pay per view event. Idk if things have changed but i remember ordering boxing matches and if the main event ended in 1 round, thats all u got.

UFC, if by a rare ocassion the main cards dont run the whole allotted time, they show you the fights prior to the scheduled live ones, which are sometimes some of the better fights because the fighters are unknown.

And to Aurons comment, I do know about the other organizations but UFC is the number 1 seller in MMA, it has the worlds best fighters no matter what you may think. Or else fighters from dream, affliction and all the ones that have folded wouldnt be constantly pouring into the UFC

Have you ever watched the fighters in Dream? Oh and I forgot about Fedor. Just because they don't fight in the UFC doesn't mean they are no where near the best. People who fight in other organizations get to fight a lot more than they do in the UFC. Cro Cop just signed a deal with Dream because he realizes he is an aging fighter and needs to get his fights in now because with Dream he can get 3 more fights within the year, but with the UFC he gets 1 more fight. Go look at the fight card for Affliction Trilogy because that looks like the best card I have ever seen. The only reason PRIDE fighters went to the UFC was because of all that shady business the organization had with the Yakuza. But I still think that DREAM has some of the best fighters in the world compared to the UFC.

I would say MMA, since I find boxing to be boring and I like the idea behind MMA much more, but I find MMA to be just as boring. They tout it as mixed martial arts, but really everyone does the exact same thing, it's just like boxing just with less rules. There's really no style to it either, it just boils down to punch him until he goes down, jump on top of him and punch him again. Maybe throw a kick or two in for good measure to remind people this isn't boxing.

My thoughts are pretty well summed up by the following:

MMA, but only for the increased levels of homoeroticism.
For Hali, another comic which describes how I see MMA:

Bajaratt, can you really say you haven't seen the technique a lot of MMA fighters have??

The take downs can be pretty cool, not all that complex but just from throwing a jab to get on the inside while hooking your leg behind your opponents and leaning into him, down he goes.

I saw that specifically in UFC 100 so I kept trying it on my bf lol. I think it's MT I enjoy the best, lots of technique in that style.

WHAT?!?! Tyson romantically nibbling on Holyfield's ear wasn't enough???

No offense thats a pretty stupid thing to say lol. Everyone does the same thing right? Because everyone can make others submit or break submissions, and anyone can knock someone out... Yeah everyone has the same fighting style lol.
