My company did some downsizing today, included in the downsizing was a director, a bunch of secretary employees, and my mother...

it was almost because of my mother that I was so well received in this company and now they just cut the cord, gave her severence and everything...

that shit hits home hard, all I can do is be fearful now for my job and my future and parents future

I do still live with them because economically it made the most sense, but now i'm afraid i might have to support them ealier than i thought i would

funny how life can change in a the turn of a day

And here people think the downturn is over......far from it.

Wish you the best man, me and my younger sister are doing the same at the moment for my parents since they are both unemployed.

It's funny how roles can change throughout life, isn't it? By funny, I certainly don't mean humourous, but you know what I'm saying. It's commendable that you're supporting them when they need you, but you know they'd do the same for you. The fact your Mother lost her job through circumstances outwith her control should give you some confidence that she'll find another job soon enough. I hope everything works out for you.

sorry to hear that, atleast she got severance, alot of ppl arn't even getting that much. how long her severance gonna last?

severance and unemployment should last at least a year or so, i'm sure she will find another job, just the initial shock of it all is breathtaking. everyone she used to work with is supporting her and offering condolences
