doc is right from what i've read so far. at 17 you should not be worrying about your heart unless you know you have a congenital heart defect which you did not state. chest pains are not just cardiac related but also respiratory related, in your case the acute coughing provokes it. if you feel the chest pains when you are coughing, my point is made. hope you get better.

I agree with Winklewil. I'd say if you're that concerned (as I would be about coughing blood and pain in my chest which is NOT normal), then you should go get yourself a second opinion. If you have to check with your insurance company to make sure you can, then do it. But I'd say go to a second doctor with full information from the first. You are entitled to have your x-rays sent and a copy of your records sent if you choose.

You're correct, doctors aren't always right. Personally I've never heard of someone as young as yourself suffering from acid reflux (though I'm sure someone has somewhere). But if two out of two docs tell you the same thing, then take your pills and stop worrying because you're going to make that particular health issue much, much worse.

This disease is called "I stay up too late playing FFXI disease".

Go to sleep earlier!

Very common for people who do not have regular sleep schedules to have stomach problems. Which tend to go away when you go back to a sleep pattern that nature intended.........tsk tsk.

Your schedule looks ok, anybody can make thier schedule look busy like that if you put all the things you like to do in it. To me it looks like play play play play play work. (get out of school first then gripe to me about this)

When all that changes to all work work work work work then you'll get what I mean.

Then you'll really have stress, then your only option is to take a vacation.

BTW: Bananas and Glutamine work wonders for ulcers and acid reflux.

Take the reflux pills, and if you're not better after the 2 weeks are up then go back (or go to another doctor) and let them know. Chest pains doesn't mean heart trouble, there's a lot of stuff in your chest, you know. The x-ray would have been to check for pneumonia and TB (probably the two biggest reasons for coughing up blood), so if that was clean then reflux probably is the biggest reason for the blood.

Here's a question: did you start coughing first, and the blood followed? If so you may have a small mallory-weiss tear in the esophagus. Violent bouts of coughing or vomiting can strain your esophagus to the point where it tears and bleeds. If that's what it is, then the cure is (shockingly!) 2 weeks of reflux meds.
