I reseated everything 4 times and it chose to start working... no idea why it didnt work the other 3 times, i didnt do anything differently.
only problem now is either the charging circuitry or the battery seem to have died mysterously, as the computer no longer recognizes the battery being in the computer... It wont start on battery alone, but if I start it on AC and remove the AC it continues running. dell bios wont let me flash it without recognizing a battery and I think flashing the bios would fix it.. catch 22.
