Dunes (*ominous music*). I've been lvling BLM. I refuse to join PTs in dunes without a WHM--this takes care of a lot of pointless standing around. I join PT with WHM, rest of PT makeup looks good on paper.

Level 18 Elvaan WHM (I forget what his name was) is wearing his Summerfest robe. No big, people wear those around, I assume he'll change out of it once we start fighting--which of course doesn't happen. I think--I *hope*--maybe he forgot (hey, it happens). I examine him. Besides the robe, he is wearing all fishing gear--not even the Angler's gear, which has a little bit better DEF, oh no. The level 1 Fisherman's set, DEF of wet toilet paper. I send him a tell and politely ask him how come he's wearing this. Reply:

"I can't afford anything else. I figured I'd buy fishing gear and make crazy money off carps but uh that didn't really work out."

I don't expect people to have the uberest gear as soon as they level. I really don't. But jebus.

Get. Off. Your. Lazy. 2-MP-No-DEF-Elvaan-Ass, and go fucking farming. Thank you.

(Needless to say, PT didn't last long.)
 
Haha I've had that happen in Kazham. A lot of the WHMs I partied with were wearing the yukata...I'm like WTF?

I'll admit I wore my level 20 black hoodie until I hit level 33 when I was able to wear my frost robe but all my little earrings/rings/staves/belt etc are up to date or at least the best for my class (sometimes that means a level 7 peice of armor is better than anything else I can buy, Mage Sandals, Astral Ring etc). There's just was nothing really worth buying as far as pants/body went until I was able to equip the frost robe and such....

But wearing level 1 armor that gives you no signifigant stats to your class is absolutely rediculous!
 
Kind of along these lines, I need advice. Im currently still wearing lvl33 Hume RSE tunic. The -1 bothers me a little, but I can't really find anything better that doesn't take away my ability to wera headgear. Anyone have any suggestions? I've been farming/mining/logging like crazy so I have gil, Im just not sure what to get, or that I should get anything at all.
 
I'm not doing the RSE thing because I'm a taru mage and it's completely useless to me, but from what I've heard some classes can wear that armor for 10+ levels. If you don't see anything on the market that's better don't worry about it. Just because you're level 37 and your armor is level 30 doesn't mean it's not the best armor you can wear. Keep up to date with the small things like earrings, headgear, belt etc. and I really wouldn't worry until something better is available to you.
 
I'm with Sabia--up-to-date armor doesn't mean that your armor is the exact level that you are--browse the AH or the net and see what has good bonuses for your job/race combination, and wear that.
I hate tunics, btw. My MP is sad, I need hairpins! ; ;

I know I mentioned this in another thread, but it bears repeating i think.

For starters, my BLM wears Worker's Gear, because it is the best defense I can get at my level without sacrificing my hairpin (I need that 15mp). Most people dont bother to check me, and probably think im some noob in Field gear... but thats not really what I wanted to talk about.

A few members of my LS and I decided to do a 22-24 group last night. We needed to fill in two spots, and both were tank spots. I see a PLD seeking, named Kert, rank 2 or 3... so I invite him.

"Hey"
"hi can I have 1kgil"
"No..."

I knew, then, that I needed to /check his quipment. Bear in the mind that he was lv23...

He had two leather rings... +1 def each...
No earrings...
No neck piece...
Lv9 Sword...
Lv9 Shield...
Some peices of beetle armor (not too bad)...
Some peices of lv10 scale main (omg)...
Warriors belt (only really okay peice)...

So, we politely inform him that "We run a tight ship, Kert, and if you cant keep up, we will probably have to let you go."

I let him know this before we even started. He tells me "Im not no noob".

So, after coaching him through three awful fights with Tough mobs, we decide to let him go.

"Kert, Its just not working out, we need to let you go"
"Fuck u"
"Nice attitude"
"You make shitty xp fuck u"
"Dont worry, you are a PLD, you'll have another group in no time, Good luck!"

What a jerk... he wastes my parties time... cant play his job... and then cusses me out. I feel sorry for the group that picked him up.
 
Forgot. There's no edit in Flameboard. I missed a word. The -1 INT bothers me a little.

Thanks for your responses so far. I've worked hard to keep my self up to date (I just bought my Ice staff :lol: ) and although I haven't heard any comments, I just don't want anything to hurt my rep as a good Blm.
 
Having bad gear is one of my big pet peeves because i try to work hard to try to keep everything up to date with some plus one gear (tryin to get mages tunic and mages slacks, only have sandals right now). When im in real low lvl parties in dunes im like ok i can understand u are just ignorant. But when u are in Qufim wearing a robe....wtf, and then i basically give you a linen robe to stay somewhat almost respectable. Its the worst w/ blm and whm because we think we can just get away with it. Hell, i feel less than adequate going to kazham w/o mages slacks or mages robe. I guess my Black tunic and black slacks will have to do.

I didn't use to notice the mage's gear until I started playing one, so I don't know how widespread this is. I do remember being in a party (pretty recently) with a 16 MNK who was still wearing his starer Hume body piece. I can image a mage rationalizing it as "well, I'm a mage, I'm not there to get hit" (though it's not a good excuse for several reasons), but when you're a freakin' MONK...

Well, I agree all jobs should be somewhat up to date in their equipment, within reason.

Being a mage type class, or a class that isn't always in the damage taking position, I agree people should concentrate on stats bonus. When I'm a blm, every piece of equipment I wear boosts my intelligence. I will sacrifice my def for a good int boost. If I can't get a piece of equipment, that boosts my int adequately, then i'll pick something with good defense.

recently, I've been playing paladin and I try to keep up to date with my armour because if you're a tank, you HAVE to have the best armour so you can take the most hits. Being a taru, this is even MORE important as I'm already pretty handicapped and fragile..... so basically at level 15, I have:

Fish Scale Shield,
Physical Earringsx2
Stamina Ringsx2
Royal Footmans Vest (I can't decide what to get at level 15 yet, or if just wait for Lizard Jerkin which is level 17)
Royal Footmans Boots
Royal Footmans Gloves
Scale ...(leg armour).
warrior's belt +1
Rabbit's Mantle +1 So I try to keep up to date, but it's hard (with such little inventory space!!). I'm new to meleeing but I know you need to keep up to date as possible if you're going to be close to the enemy...it's just common sense, level 1 armour is not acceptable (basically for ANY job).
 
i need some advice on my subjob. its lvl 23 whm right now and i have NO armomr for it ; ; i lvled from 20-23 wearing only lvl 1 robe and no pants or shoes. But everything went fine and i only died once out of my own stupidity. IMO whm sSJ can have low lvl armomr if the tank is good enough not to let him get hit. BTW, im poor as hell and can even afford main armor (before u tell me to go farm, I do farm. Im saving for a warlocks mantle and dispel and phanlax, so armomr is not up there in my list)
 
Armor may not be high on your list but it sure as heck is high up on your parties list. People like their whm to be able to take at least one hit and your missing out on a lot of stat bonuses also.

Go buy yourself a black tunic, Black slacks and mage sandals.....

lol, you just listed my equipment for those slots.

I'm currently sporting:
Black Tunic, Mage's Sandals, Black Slacks, 2 Onyx Earring, Eremites Ring, Windy Ring (pretty much as good as eremites if not better), Yew Wand +1, Black Silk Neckerchief, Cotton Cape, Friars Rope...and Decurions Dagger for when im farming and there is a pesky bugger that doesnt want to die from my -ga spell.

My thf is ok too.
 
Yeah those peices of armor have taken me a long way. Best investment I've made! I'm really glad I hit lvl 33 and got my taru tush out of the tunic though...I missed my long flowing silver locks!
 
Farm some more. Seriously--spend some of your money on stuff that you can use now, then resell and farm (or craft, or fish, or whatever you prefer to do for money) the rest for the stuff you will use later.
Yeah, as a mage you can get away with low defense--but, guess what, you *are* going to get hit once in a while. It happens. And when it happens, it sure does come in handy having a little more than level 1 armor defense so you can take a hit or two while the tank gets hate again.
Not to mention other useful bonuses you can get from your armor.
(Also, no shoes and no pants sounds so...just...sad...I-live-under-a-bridge-and-have-15-children sad)

Just say no to Taru nudity!
 
lol I guess i shouldnt mention that my main job has been pantless since lvl 33 ; ; :oops:
I farm, but everytime i farm a good amount I go to AH and realize that what i farmed isnt profitable anymore, either it went down alot in price or no one is buying them anymore.
