Uninstall windower??

Windower changed my graphic settings, everything is really dark and it looks bad, if I go to my FFXI config everything is normal.. how do I get rid of what windower did to my ffxi? :(

Try not running windower for 1, that makes the graphics look perfect. Though there are a few ways to fix it while using windower, the graphics never look right in my eyes. F10 I think is the button to fix it so that it brightens up some bit.
 
With the windower, hit the "~" key to open the consle, and type in game_gamma 60. Easy as that. :P

I'm not using windower anymore, when I open up FFXI regularly, the graphics look like they are at a lower res, and it's dark..
 
Are you sure you uninstalled the windower properly and are running FFXI through the POL startup and not the windower's startup button? This shouldn't have affected your game's gamma in any way to make it look dark unless you messed up in the uninstall or didn't actually uninstall it.

That's what I'm saying... theres no "unistall" so how do I uninstall it? :(
 
The Windower did nothing to alter your settings in FFXI. It's just a program that causes FFXI to think it's running full screen when it's not. It didn't hack into your game and fiddle with things. The only reason it's dark when you run Windower is due to some wonky DirectX thing (I believe, don't quote me). Removing Windower won't change anything. There's no uninstall because you never installed anything in the first place.

I didn't think it installed anything, but now when I open my FFXI regularly, the graphics look crappy like they do with windower.....
 
If you aren't using windower to open pol, then, it isn't windower that's doing it. Go check your settings. You changed something yourself. Try checking to see if you have it in low resolution or have the gamma settings oddly configured.

I DID Check, everything is fine, the darkness isn't the problem, the graphics look like shit.

Trying something else, lemme check.

My textures were heavily compressed in settings, but I never even go there.... but whatever I think it's fixed going to check now.
 
check your resolution with the ffxi config utility
 
windower screws up your resolution and colors and stuff if you run it in full screen mode later (happens to me too), font, colors, looks like crap ><

yep, it changed my FFXI Config settings, backround res, gamma, and texture compression. Once you put them back everything is good! :lol:
 
you also gotta go into the Windower config and change the graphics in there. Oherwise it'll keep resetting your resolution settings every once in a while.
 
the newest version changed the background settings i think it was to 800x600
in the POL settings. other than that, i dont believe it changes anything. the newest windower version doesnt have the greatest graphics smoothness either
 
Similar side note - has anyone played around with the texture sizes? I find that 256x256 looks almost exactly the same as 1024x1024... then again, I have an aging Radeon 9700, which might have a max texture size lower than 1024².
 
Are you kidding? 256x256 becomes a big square blocky mess. I can't even read player names when I set it that low. There is a large difference between 256 and 1028. Your card is fine, it's more recent than a geforce 2 I have running on a machine with 1028x1028 graphic textures.
 
Maybe it's currently at 1024² and I'm thinking of 2048²...
