I must say that was one of the best movies I've ever seen. I think every American really needs to see this movie.
I was skeptical at first, thinking it might be in some way cheesy or opportunistic, but I can't think of a way it could have been done possibly better. The only people I've ever heard say anything bad about the movie are people who never even saw it and are against the idea of the movie.
Some reasons to see it:
It's not at ALL political. It doesn't try and assert any bias.
All the actors are no names. You will not recognize anyone. When I saw them, I felt like I was watching real people on a real airplane. I was not watching Tom Cruise pretend to be a secret agent. Many of the shots on the ground had people playing themselves. The pilots and flight attendants were played by actual pilots and flight attendants.
It was painstakingly accurate. The writer used every piece of information that existed to try and keep as accurate as possible of a timeline of the events, which included many, many cell phone calls placed from inside the airplane. There were hundreds of hours of interviews with family members of the passengors aboard. They based the dramatized dialog between all the passengors and between the terrorists off of tons of information and profiles of every one of them and cell phone/ air phone calls placed. They recreated the talk in the cockpit based off the black box in the airplane.
No passengers were explicitly named in the movie. To know who was who you'd need to research the flight in detail and assume who was who based off what we know.
A portion of the sales go directly to some sort of memorial fund organization for the passengers. I'm not sure of the details with that but it was signifigant enough when I heard that this movie was not there just to make money. Oncce I saw this movie I knew that the people who made it really weren't out there to make money. That sounds unrealistic I know, but it's because this.
They didn't put anything in they didn't believe actually happened off exhaustive research. So as the tension mounts, it doesn't feel like we're watching a movie. It feels like we're watching life. That gives the movie a lot of credibility, so that when violent things happen, they feel more important than when you watch violence in some ordinary movie that you can watch it is obviously fiction. It's not like watching Jack die at the end of the titanic. The titanic was real, that storyline was hollywood bullshit. This was so much different.
After seeing it, I want onto the IMDB boards, and it was polluted with people with their conspiracy theories. It was full of people wanting to bash US, Bush, ext. If this was some movie trying to deliver a political message, I can see a justice in that, but this movie only delivered facts. Sure, it's your right to believe but there are places it's inappropriate to bring it up, especially if you never actually watched the movie. Every single thread had someone coming in and spouting off that nonsense. No matter how hard the OP tried to say, "Please not here," they added their bullshit. Then they started stating some facts they see disprove the truth based off research they did typing in "9/11 conspiracies" on google. But that's the internet and the sad fact that it's hard to shut people up you don't want to talk to.
