Unreal Tournament 3

I am loving this right now. I haven't done any online play, but I actually just did a mission Co-op with some dude and we tore up the blue team pretty bad lol I love how fast paced this game is. The weapons are pretty bad ass, and like you Fire, Shock Rifle seems to be my weapon of choice, at least the primary fire. The secondary fire is alright, but not as nice.

And I don't get why people are saying it plays like crap on the PS3. I haven't suffered any framerate loss or glitches or anything so far. It is playing very smooth.

I heard it a few times around forums and one review site said the PS3 couldn't handle it.

if anyone wants to do the story mode or the multi player, my psn name is xman028

They are probably just basing this off of how shitty The Orange Box is on PS3, i think. UT3 is one of the few games i would rather own on my PS3 than my 360.

Yeah, I heard that Orange Box got a shitty port too. They were often talked about together so maybe they just lumped them together as one failed port even though UT3 is as seamless as ever.

I am getting awesome with the rocket launcher in single player, now if only I could be guaranteed to get one in multiplayer lol I have the double jump, kil down to a science with this sucker.

it's out now? :D sweet. Ill have to pick it up. But for PC or for PS3? hmm...

PSXtreem Newsletter: UT3 slower on PS3.. On purpose said:
Unreal Tournament 3 is scheduled to arrive next week for the PS3, but the comparisons to the PC version are already being made. Evidently, it seems the PS3 version of UT3 runs slower...but Epic is very aware of it, and in fact, they did it on purpose. Here's what VP Mark Rein told SPOnG in a recent interview:

"When you play Halo on PC, you notice the difference too, yeah? This is also the reason why we don't have cross-platform play, between PC and PS3, because you have got to make some compromises for each platform. But you play Halo on console and you find that it's slower too, right…they have to be slower, because your fingers are just not as precise as your whole arm, right? To me the movement and speed as a console gamer is just right."

Well, there goes the idea of cross-platform play. We didn't realize they had passed on the thought, because at first, Epic wouldn't rule it out. However, it's all in the interest of producing a game that fits best on a console, which is why they wanted the gameplay structure to feel "more like a ladder than a story."

"[Epic] simplified the game… in the last game, we had like seven game types… this time, we said instead of having 'onslaught' and 'assault' lets meld them together into this 'warfare' mode, let's just do the things that we do really well and make them work on console. It's the single player game that, even though you're playing through all the different levels, feels more like a ladder with a story. It's just a much better introduction to the game."

Still, PS3 owners get all those nifty mods, and as we already know, Epic likes the fact that Sony embraces user-generated content. It's that open network theme that really appealed to the team, and they took full advantage.

"When Sony originally said, 'Ours is an open network', we said, 'Oh yeah? Well, we'll see how open you are really willing to be'. To their credit, they have been fully supportive of this. There's no question that this kind of modding ability has never happened on console before."

We certainly trust Epic's judgment on this, but we have to admit: when someone says "slower" in regards to a FPS, some people might get a touch concerned. On the other hand, if Rein says the game plays great, we're inclined to believe him.

Thats probably what people are talking about, and i'm inclined to agree with this. Unless you're using a FagFX, console reactions aren't quite as fast as PC reactions.

You can up to speed if you want to PC level with a 20% boost option available amongst a big list of stuff you can change. It's extremely frantic though, at normal speed it's already a lot faster paced than Resistance even. The normal speed feels just perfect to me, I've got time to headshot.

My biggest complaint so far is that node based battles are so frusterating on the campaign. I need to be able to overpower the enemy in two places at once sometimes, and the bot teammates can't overpower the bot enemies where I'm at. So I run off, kill like 30 guys and lose ground.

The node and power core battles you mean? I actually found the first one to be pretty easy as my teammates were offing people left and right.

And thanks for that info Mara ^^

No it's a few hours in, you'll get there eventually and be cursing at your TV.

By the way Marajade, you don't need FragFX for this game. It accepts keyboard and mouse.

And my god is this game beautiful or what?

Yes, the graphics in this game are amazing. I am finding all the weapons to be useful too. Even the Enforcer is pretty badass for being basically a pistol. The only weapon I really don't like is the Link Cannon or whatever the 2nd word is. I know it is supposed to increase in power if you are around teammates who are using it also, but it seems to be the lasers that come from it take to long to get to what you are shooting.

As far as campaign goes, I just did the one where its basically a mirrored map with flags on either side for CTF, and in the middle is an area for snipers for each side. I must say that even though there are only a few different types of campaign missions, they mix it up very well with other objectives to complete and the addition of vehicles in capture the flag with hoverboards is so much fun.

Ok, I just picked this up with my friend, only to discover that there's no offline multiplayer. What gives? Or am I just not finding the mode <,<

Yeah, lack of splitscreen is a major disappointment. I'm pissed cause the gameplay is honestly better than COD4 and I'd like to play this for offline deathmatch. Luckily there's lan play and when I get home can use my dad's ps3/high def to do offline deathmatch.

Devs need to pull their head out of their ass though with offline. Online is nice when you're alone, but playing offline with friends is the best experience and 1 in 100 people are going to have multiple PS3s to LAN together. There are an awful lot of games this gen with online only for multiplayer. I didn't care when COD4 came out cause that was the best and it supported it, but now it's 2nd.

Ok so i try this game out on PS3. This is regular ass game on PS3, sorry. The gameplay is not even close to Halo3 and far behind CoD. And as big of a Halo fan as i am i admit CoD gameplay and overall fun is just the best to date online. This is not an Xbox is better rant, i am sure the game will be regular ass game if it ever comes out for 360. Unreal is still good. Just like R&C was good, nothing incredible. I am sure everyone will say they love it. Step back and be honest with yourself and you might just day "Damn this game just does not fit im my timeslot of other awesome games out atm." thats were it fits for me, just another game to beat up and not play again. I am not buying it i believe after my Blockbuster rental is done. I waited for console version. May as well get the PC version but wanted console version to be made of win so badly... Oh well. Enjoy i guess lol just my opinion as a HUGE FPS fan. Feels like im playing Prey lol... Ok i am done now i promise.

Sorry had to add this. I see you mentioned offline modes Fire. Rainbow6 has to me, the best ofline mode ever... Terrorist mode. My friends outside of 360 community are not always that great in FPS and playing VS with them is not fun at all for them. Terrorist mode lets you and your friend hunt down AI enemies offline, splitscreen. More games need to add something like this. Not just a Co-op story mode.

Rainbow 6 I liked doing the story mode co-op splitscreen offline. It's great but it's not the same experience as like a Halo or Resistance offline. They're different kind of shooters. To me Unreal Tournament 3 would be the best, although with COD4 and Resistance I'm not really hurting for a game to play offline multi. Just would have been incredible.

The gameplay is not even close to Halo3

Thank the big guy for that. I dunno what I'd do if Epic turned the UT series into a -slowwwwwww- steamin' pile of shit. You either "get" UT games or you don't. Fortunately for me, CoD 4 is baller to the max. If it wasn't for CoD 4 there wouldn't even be a FPS game worth ownin' between F.E.A.R. and May of 2008.

UT was innovated back in the first releases of the series and laid the foundation for many things people disregard in the games of now, even the Halo series. Now, while not innovative, it's like a respectable old man. He never changed, thankfully, and he's still the same great guy he always was. To me, it's a sense of comfort, a back to the roots type feel with this game. As years went on between UT99 until now, games got worse and way to experimented on. Sometimes we just need the good old simple math solution that just plain works, not a harder way to get to the same answer. I love what Epic did here, something more studios should do, and took to the phrase, "if it isn't broke, don't fix it."

Goddamn I miss me some Overdose matches...
