Unreal Tournament 3

While I still like CoD4 better, UT3 is the next best thing.

The games visuals are pretty nice but it just doesnt give me some great gameplay package. I can understand you Strid with "If it isnt broke dont fix it." BUT DAAAAMN. Its the same exact game every time... Yes good... But were is the Next gen GREATness? The visuals? Is that all this gen will be about, visuals? Epic promised something better then GeoW. UT story is tacked on, and not even 1/4 as epic(lol) as GeoW. I know the game fanbase is rather large and mainly purchased for multiplayer. But you could argue all day which game is online king atm. I was under the impression there was not one untile this game arrived and man am i glad i didnt listen. I am a fan of past UTs and still feel this one was uh, cool? I think we got hosed and this is a $40 game AGAIN. Just think the game was highly highly over hyped, while it turned out good, its not great. There next UT in this gen will probably be the shit.

Well there's a few ways you can look at it. In terms of the single player package, you can go 2 directions here. On the one hand, Halo 3, Gears of War or Call of Duty 4, there's 6 hours or so of cinematic plot-driven gameplay. For 6 hours, that's pretty damn good.

For Unreal tournament there's a highly refined offline multiplayer with bots of varying degrees of difficulty, tons of maps, all well balanced, several gameplay modes, all perfectly done. If I'm alone and offline, what game am I going to get more playtime out of? I've already played 6 hours of UT3 OFFLINE and had a blast the entire way through. I can fight bots here more than I'll play most games online against people. Literally, 6 months later, I will still be playing UT3 to fight bots in warfare mode or capture the flag vehicles mode. 2 years later, maybe nobody is online Halo 3 cause they all have Halo 4, but bots will be there in UT3. What about online now...? What other game has that? And online? If I ever get sick of the core gameplay, by that time there's going to be tons of mods to slap on my harddrive and try out new stuff.

I don't really know what to say though, in terms of your critique on the similarities to past iterations. It's the best of the series, and it looks amazing, and it's extremely innovative in the console realm. No console game before it will allow mods. No console game before it has these visuals combined with this huge scope and speed. To top it all off, this game pretty much guarantees that across all development studios, PS3 and Unreal Engine = fucking sweet. Part of the deal with Sony and Epic was that they'd update the engine so all the devs can get it. Can you imagine a better engine now?

But anyway... I mean we're all entitled to our opinion. But your major complaint seems to be that this game is too much like the last one, and in the same breath you compliment Halo 3. While the core mechanics of UT are the same, it's a much bigger visual leap and it's got the mods for consoles element that nobody else has, not to mention keyboard and mouse support which if you've played you'd see isn't even needed.

Then you say this generation is too much about graphics. Well, I've played Gears of War, and graphics is all it's got to be honest. At the time, it had the cover system, but Rainbow 6 Vegas and Uncharted both blow it away in terms of gameplay and then Uncharted matched and even bested it visually. What gears has is a visual edge over Rainbow and the fact that Uncharted has no multiplayer at all.

When you look at these games, they've all got something to them, but careful analysis concludes that for whatever purposes, 1 game wins in one aspect.

For offline multiplayer, that's COD4, no questions asked, for storyline, that's Uncharted/COD4/Halo 3/Resistance, for online multiplayer, that's COD4/UT3. For co-op splitscreen, that's Rainbow 6/Resistance/Halo 3.

Just picked up orange box, dunno where to put that, only played Portal so far, which isn't really a shooter. I can tell I'm not gonna like TF2.

I haven't been able to pick up UT3 from work yet, so i'll just ask here, has anything new been implemented aside from a new game type?

Also, the whole addition of the equipment in H3 totally change it, so lets not try to be jack asses and actually discuss the game.

Freak it. I picked it up anyways for PS3 just to play with you fire. I give everyone else in here online the time i might as well try to enjoy something with you. I dont have a Headset atm tho lol so got to let me get one. Ok thats not the reason i got it realy. It is actualy a good game, not great, but good is just fine. I need a big PS3 title, if it was for 360 then i would pass on buying. I have also payed for games far worse, not that this would be considered on the worste side of my games lol. Fire i will try to play with ya later or something.

Halo comment: Dont be dumb, Halo has evolved. Halo 1 was offline period. Halo 2 broke online records. Halo 3 has made record your game system a MUST and has changed the gameplay with many mechanics. I find myself SO PISSED in COD when i cant record some incredible action i just did. While UT is still the same game it was when it first came out just prettier. Tho it didnt really need changes and thats fine for some, i was just expecting breakthrough stuff here.

Ya know, as much as I dislike Halo, this is one awesome function that I wish more games had. Yes, the killcam in CoD4 is pretty damn nice too, but being able to record and entire match and snap off photos while playing is a great idea.

I was thinking about getting a component in for my PC to record game footage. Then every game, online and offline can get turned into a video. Could also rent blu-rays and record them. If there's one game that needs to be recorded, it's Warhawk. So often something crazy happens and everyone just bursts into laughter.

As for UT3 online, I'll be online when I get home after my finals. Trying to play with this damn internet is just impossible. Need to get back to comcast. Damn charter.

I need to get a mic tomorrow. I can not play without communication. I am having more fun with the game tho, the campaign is still maybe the worste ever.

We're vastly different gamers in that regard. I don't usually even turn on my headset, and sometimes I avoid playing games I might feel guilty being on a voice chat game without my headset on, cause I know some headset loving gamers might want to talk to me to say something important.

I tried just setting my playstation eye to be my microphone but problem is that in loud games it picks up the speaker's output.

Always use headset for Rainbow 6 though. Absolutely needed there.

By the way, USB headsets work, as well if you're getting a blutooth headset it'll work in your cell phone as well assuming it's blutooth compatible. The headset that comes with Warhawk is a great deal, if you don't have the standalone game, people there use headsets alot too, obviously. If you're just going to buy a new standalone headset don't spend too much money because you may be disappointed with the lack of chat. It's very random. Sometimes it'll be like 2 people with sets out of a whole room, sometimes over half the people there. I think a lot of people are like me, actually owning headsets and not turning it on, unless a lot of other people have it on.

I find myself using a headset all the time, especially in CoD4. Most matches I am in have a good majority of people using them as well. People don't use them as much in UT3 as much as there really isn't as much strategy needed as it is too fast paced. It does come in handy to let your teammates know about orb runners and stuff like that.

Its also good for "Quickly! Everyone onto the Leviathan!" and then parking it next to their core.

Beat the single player mode today, with some surprise help from Firestreak, lol. Thankfully it was a Duel mode match and his deaths didn't make me loose, lol.

LOL yeah it's fun to just pop in when people are playing campaign and surprise them. I did it to you once before and saved your AFK ass.

I wondered what had happened there <,< I had to afk for somthing that seemed important at the time, then when I came back I'd won the mission, lol.

wait.. people can be playnig single player game and then a player can pop in? XD wtf?
