Update details

They've been in the files for ages, with joke MP numbers so that mobs have something to work with. All that stuff gets changed when it comes out for players.

Actually, the MP cost and lvl of AM spells were changed last update. Earlier they were higher then 75, and the MP cost was like 1 or something. Last update however, they changed it to 75 in lvl, which is why people discussed a long time ago that tier-2 AM would probably be the BLM's merit addition.

I won't debate that some shells use NIN to greater effect. But the fact is, a ton of shells use PLDs for stuff. And for that matter, SE wants people to use PLDs for stuff. Phalanx II (going by its animation, looks like Phalanxga) and Protect V should help PLD immensely.

Yeah, I'm hoping Phalanx II is AoE and not single-target.

Unless AM2 is way cheaper w/ a shorter cast time and does more damage, I'm not about to put 3 merits into it when I can save them for another job. I mean when was the last time you've seen BLMs use AM's in either xp sessions or endgame fights? They're horrible at 70+ since teir 4 magic does about as much for less mp and a faster cast time.

Considering this IS SE, I really dont have the greatest expectations for AM2.

Ancient magic is level 50-60. Tier IV magic is 70+. Of course ancient magic is useless at 70+. If it wasn't the case, blm's would see no improvement in magic damage post 60. When we were first getting ancient magics starting at 50, they were the top damaging spells in our roster. Ancient magic II will now be the top damaging spells in our roster - at least untill SE pumps up the level cap to 85 and we can say Ancient magic II is useless because tier IV and V spells outdamage them.

right, because pld needed the help. NIN tanks > PLDs in almost all situations, pld needed help, SE may have shortened the gap

As much as I'd like that, it would probably then be Phalanxra or something similar... ; ;

Replying to whoever asked about the bst moves... Feral Howl seems like Warcry to me. the job trait beast affinity could mean a lot of things, though it's probably either a better charm rate or you can SC with pets, and the job trait beast healing has something (of course) dealing with healing pets. Either cure works on them or pet food works better. My 2 cents.

I know not many people care about bst(except TheFlock and myself:) but what do you think our abilities will do?

Still haven't figured them out

I'm prayin for Sic 2. Common "no more AoE in a huge pile of mobs!"

as RDM/BLM I have 996 MP, as RDMWHM I have roughly 984 I believe. as WHM/SMN I have 1149. RDM and WHM MP pool are fairly simular with the right gear =/ So I honestly don't see how you have WAY more O.o; Hell, I even have 800 MP or so as RDM/NIN

Aren't you a Taru? Us big people don't follow the same +mp% >.>;

I admit my Rdm is lower than my Whm but unless you have Zenith (which you probably do ._.) WHM is going to shame Rdm. I don't know my numbers now (since I never get PT's to merit.. see how often I'm willing to R3 now.. -.-) but unless my RDM gets 300MP in 10 levels it doesn't have a chance. Take into consideration WHM can wear NOTHING but +mp and be fine, Rdm need heavy int/mnd as well as MP all macroable around (I think I have a full line just for macros...) Plus... Compare Regen III to Regen I, Cure V, to Cure IV, and -na's while still having Conserve MP (or Refresh if you sub Smn)

With Sanction, WHM does fine. Nobles + Sanction + good gear = infinite MP. I have never run out of MP in a good pt. Even a friend who had played 2 weeks managed at 74 when they camped in a POP area and were constantly fighting 2-3 mobs at once x.x not a death, no downtime, no risks...

Rdm is my fav mage job, second only to Sam out of all 18, and I adore it... however WHM is better for merits because of sheer lack of danger. Just lame I have to hope a friend is on and needs a healer.

I thought they changed it to their current MP costs during the update that added the jailers (first mobs to actually use the spells). Maybe I'm mistaken. o.o

That would suck... "Lets add ANOTHER spell for Rdm to have to be spammed for every 30 seconds" I'd rather it be Phalanx+1, not crappy AoE to spam on people with Refresh/Haste.

Actually for the record, AMI (Freeze) was awesome when I realized how to use it propperly. At level 50 (51 preferably with staves), you can solo the BST leeches in Gustav Tunnel with a single freeze and get good exp. I got a full level of experience while I was bored seeking party. They should be T to 50 and EM-DC to 54-55 I believe. Not a bad way to get exp really if you can't get an exp party and you always have a warp out. Although the down time kinda sucked, it was 100+ exp a mob with no one else to bitch or deal with and very little chance of death.

Note: BST won't link with the pet if he dies one-shot which with the leech being T tops, I doubt you'd get resisted. I got resisted once in the entire time I did it for about 12-14k exp. And you get to keep all the seals too.

nope, I'm an elvaan.

As for the MND/INT/MP thing, that's what gear swapping macroes are for XD

And man, I'm really looking forward to see what the WHM job abilities are

Thanks for posting this and giving me something to read at work. rep^

Do we know if the new POL update takes Windower out back and shoots it yet?

Aggressive Aim.. what does that mean? The warriors will now aim for the monsters nads or something?

Nice MP for evlaan o.O and now it's brought to thinking... don't AM lower the resist of the element they are strong to? (flare -> Weakened to ice) if so the whole "omg nerf" cold be avoided by a 1-2 second stall between BLM's all doing AMII in order... that would do some damage.

Probably increases the accuracy of their loltomahawk skill.

I think the whole BLM nerf thing was to try to kool off Gilsellers, this right here was aimed for players you play and would kinda naul the BLM nerf effect.

I really don't know many GILsellers who merit.

Problem being the Am2 lowers resistance to an element, monsters gain resistance to magic damage in general. That and you only use thunder and blizzard on big monsters, so going through the whole line would waste more mp than it would gain.

Well, I'm wondering... the update doesn't say if the resistance only applies to elements, or all elements at the same time.

If so, you could just go all-out on Thunder untill resistance against it increases, then continue on to Blizzard, then Fire etc. And once you've been through the entire elemental wheel, Thunder Resistance is back to normal perhaps?

If it applies to all elements, you just replace the BLMes with something else while you let the enemy cool down again. Besides, we don't know how strong the resistance thing is yet. For all we know it might decrease damage by 100 at the most, and thus its not really a nerf at all.
