*update* IMPORTANT: how to check to see if your PC has been keylogged.

Hello guys,

I know there are so many hackers (DAMN RMT) out there. Is there a way to make both of my passwords saved, so that I wont have to type it everytime I log on? So far I am only allowed to save one of the passwords, and I have to type the 2nd password in everytime I log on. If there is no way of doing this, we all should complain about it to SE, so they can update the playonline viewer. Thanks

It's not free, but you can use it for 90 days, plus it's cheap for the time you get to have it and for how many computers you can put it on.

Windows Live One Care is a nice Anti-everything program. It's for Windows users with a LEGIT version of Service Pack 2.

Just run a complete scan of your computer, for a 100gb hard drive, it takes about 20 minutes to scan EVERYTHING. Plus, when you let your computer idle, say...overnight. It will do a scan as well, but not a full one, it runs like a back round operation, then once you move your mouse or something, it stops, but in that time, it has found items for me that need deleting. It's a wise program, specially for 90 days.

So yeah, I know it has a lot of requirements to use but it is quite nice. Hope this helps.

If you save one password, that password is your "real" one, the one you still type in is just a local password that doesn't matter elsewhere, in effect, you have what you want... only the saved password can still be stolen anyways

Good man.

**** Firefox Users ****

I highly recommend you use AdblockPlus and NoScript extensions if you do not already. These are the plugins I recommended to Zaltana earlier this week.

**** Internet Explorer Users ****

Normally, I'd say "you're fucked", but there is always help.

1.) Use the Windows Firewall. START -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall; enable. It will be annoying as everything for a while if you have *no* exceptions built in yet, but a mild annoyance is a small price to pay for extra security.

2) Run your AV software. Not only does AVG exist in free version, but so does ClamAV, which now also works in Win32 systems.

3) Utilize spyware/adware removal tools, as listed before. BitDefender, ZoneAlarm, AdAware, SpyBot-S&D, and even Windows Defender are all worthwhile tools to use for added security.

**** Opinion, and sabre-rattling from this point ****
One more tick mark for Linux :)

werd, I love my linux box and work, I have the 'attempted' viruses sitting on my desktop like little trophies, I can even open them in Emacs and dittle around in the code for fun.

Only reason Linux is safest is because it's barely used so hackers don't bother making code, win by default I say...lol

I tried getting this 'free' avast as I was running comodo before and didn't much care for it, but it keeps asking me to register/pay for it? What the heck? I thought Free was like...Free unless I'm just getting too old for this shit? Suggestions!

its free online registration Sabia just just register it

Maybe you still need to register your free copy? I think I did. Can't remember though, as it's been a while since I installed it.

k, I'll give that a try, last time I did though it asked me for credit card info :(

I have it set to auto log on since I'm the only person to use my PC, I assume you have the "password to log in" and then "log in password" correct? If that's the case, if you have it set to auto log in at start up, it should NEVER ask you for a password, even if it doesn't auto log in for you.

emacs!?! vim ftw :D

yeah, i think the fact that "nobody writes linux viruses" is only half of the coin; the flipside being that linux kernel is locked tight, and only about 50 apps access it by default, as compared to windows, where even Internet Explorer is a kernel-using app.

either way, linux is great, but i'm not holding my breath for the day that i see ffxi work in WINE or Cedega. Anyone who says they got it to work is full of shit because they aren't following GPL guidelines and sharing their work...

Start > Run > Regedit > My Computer > Edit > Find

Search for: in3.dll/kb1ss1p.dll/rsbo.exe

And yes, DO NOT MANUALLY TYPE YOUR PASSWORD IF POL ASKS YOU TO.

Little confused here, after reading here and what I found from allakhazam

Quote below is from allakhazam
"This makes me want to change my password to something a little more secure. If I do that, should I uncheck the save password to be safer, or would it not matter?"

"It's best to manually enter your password every time. If you click the "save [password" so that you automatically log in every time you open playonline viewer what happens is the computer creates a small script that stores your password locally on your computer. Every time you log in your password has to be sent to the s-e servers, and by setting it to auto save you put that information onto your computer. The computer then accesses the mini script every time you tell it to log you in and uses that source.

If someobody got ahold of your computer and decoded the script it would actually be EASIER for them to take over your account NOT harder. Using the "save my password so I don't have to enter it manually" is actually a liability not a strength.

If its a keylogger then the script would still be logged just as if it were actual keystrokes, there is no difference. I type my password in manually for this very reason. "

That quote is vastly misinformed, while it's technically true that it's easier to take a saved password than key-logging it, software for keylogging is widely developed, while software for "finding a ffxi password and sending it along with the PoL ID" isn't really out there. In effect both methods are unsafe, though most programs would opt for a keylogger rather than going for the saved info itself.

Best idea I've heard was save the first half of your password into PoL, and manually type in the last half, this way a keylogger only gets half, and a password retriever only gets half, now if your trojan had both of these you're still screwed, however the writer may also just be too lazy to take your account if they have hundreds of others.

Of course the best solution is protecting against these malicious programs before they even get to your computer, using firefox with adblocker+noscript is one of the safest options (though I personally don't like noscript) and using any browser other then IE (Opera, and Firefox are most popular on windows). Along with a strong and secure firewall, and a good anti-virus helps if a program manages to get through.

It is a bit odd that it's so prolific, though.

I'm sure I'm not the only one even in this thread who does not go to iffy sites, does not use third party software and still somehow managed getting it.

is it me, or does jojoking have BOT written all over it

what? just cause it bumped a 3 year old thread with bs?
