US Offically in Recession

I mentioned the "Official Recession" to one of my friends and his response made me sad.

He said "All that shit that Clinton did to our economy is finally catching up to us. It wouldn't be like this if he didn't sell the country to the Chineese."

Um.... what?

lolrepublicans.

Bush said "This recession started well over 8 years ago". Way to place the blame on someone else.

Bush has skills. 2 recessions during his time in office.

I agree with that mindset. And a little planning goes a long way.
Post retirement, as much as you think you're "promised" certain things like social security, pensions, investments doing well, etc., you just aren't. You can only depend on yourself to make your own financial freedom happen, but it's nice to think that those closest to you would also gain some financial freedom should you get hit by a bus or otherwise die in 50 years...Or tomorrow. Yeah, it sneaks up on you. Doing nothing about it is sweet, eh?

I don't mean to turn this into a retirement topic, but certain pensions, 401(k)s, 403(b)s and others are actually insured in case the comapny falls through. Granted I believe the amount is only to 51k but that's better then nothing.

The fun thing about a recession is that MBA programs skyrocket now. So for all those professors out there enjoy the extra students!

What do you mean? The value of the programs skyrockets, or the price?

The amount of students enrolled in them. Since it'll prove to be difficult to get a job in a recession, people are signing up for MBA programs left and right to have that extra piece of paper to put them over samoa joe.

He's partially correct. The goundwork was laid for it a decade + ago. It just doesn't help that EVERYONE in the know seems to have seen this coming and just ignored it. He can lay blame on someone else, sure, but he is just as much to blame for letting it continue to snowball.

Truer words could not have been spoken.

If the groundwork was laid a decade ago... and we've had a recession since 2000... How did the current recession leapfrog blame into 2008?

Politics, and many people being generally uninformed.

As I recall it, the whole sub-prime mortgage issue was a Democrat-led idea to increase the number of poor people who could afford houses.

The problem with correcting an issue like that is purely political. If the Republicans came out and tried to repeal it, the Democrats would (of course) say that they were attacking poor people, regardless of the fact that the entire concept of loaning money to people who can't afford loans is inordinately stupid.

People give Clinton a lot of credit on the economy, for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Clinton, to put it simply, got lucky, and presided over a bubble economy that was based on nothing. The hypothetical "surplus" that Bush supposedly squandered was, by the time Bush actually took office, more imaginary than hypothetical, as by that time the bubble had already burst. The crash in tech stocks had nothing to do with anything Bush did, as their rise had nothing to do with anything Clinton did. It was, in effect, a gold rush, where a lot of investment results in relatively little actual gain, only in this case there were even fewer winners.

The funny part to me is how many countries were/are looking to the US to solve our problems in order to solve their problems.

I'm lucky the company I work for loves me and they don't care what position I am filling as long as I am working for them lol

I've already worked in scales (truck weights), stockroom, and now I'm a quality technician XD

Everyone loves applesauce I guess
