Use the Windower? Watch what you say

How is being able to minimize this game an advantage? If anything, it’s a disadvantage. Most people are probably running at least 2 other programs in the background such as alla and a music player. Most of which will cause massive lag in some towns.

So? If that’s the case, then anyone playing with a laptop beside them or a computer in the same room is cheating. Might as well include Brady Game Guide readers, too. (Maybe not. That thing sucks! :wink: )

Brady Game Guide is not cheating for the fact is SE endorsed.

How is windower a disadvantace? If your running other programs that cause lag its your problem not mine. This is in no way a disadvantage as you have the choice to run it.

P.S. I definding myself on three topics is there no one else who sees this program as cheating?
 
SE is behind on the whole Windowed Mode thing because EQII has it for sure, and I think a few other games have it built in. I hope that they'll get on the ball and create a 1st party thing that we can legally use. I'm really tired of having to logout to check a website. I personally didn't use the windower very often because of the horrendous looks. Even with the Gamma adjustments I just couldn't stand the look of it.

only thing I ocnsider cheating is TParty and other plugins.
Hence why I don't use them.

It is a cheat.Lets say you go to mine. you have windower. You find the the post where I posted the animated mining map. now you us that while your playing. Yet another reason. And its THRD PARTY did you miss that.
 
Ive been playing Pc games for the longest time, and only a couple havent let me play the game in Windowed Screen( Diablo 2, etc), FFXI is a great game and all.. but it has its downtimes like when your LFG, or such... having the windower can let you do other things then rot in Jeuno for 5-7hrs.. while the windower can be used for Cheating, SE shouldnt punish ppl that choose to use the Windower (to do other things but the game).. because ppl want to spend there "free" time wisely.. I as a gamer think the windower is great, but I wonder about SE .. seing how Wow and some other games have it so you can window them (CS : Source) , Basic Facts yea you can cheat with the Windower (those ppl should be punished) but if your just gonna play the game in a windowed mode.. and surf the web.. wth are you harming? I mean honestly .. if SE doesnt like us using the Windower, why wont they Develop a windower for FFXI themselves, and run some kind of firewall that keeps hackers out? I hope SE reads this.. be smart, Take action and dont piss off fellow gamers, cuz alot of us Use the Windower, not for cheating.. but to Spend are time wisely .. and also I played the game in Full Screen for awhile, but come on... im not on a Ps2.. im not just gonna sit and rot while waiting for a damn party... im gonna surf the web, talk to friends on Aim... what not. Somthing else that gets me fired up... there taking action now, because a website posts these cheats... which have been used by the JP's for a long time, I think its just a Bunch of BS. "We are looking into it further", a GM said to me.. while I watch Gill Sellers camp a Mob in front of me... I havent seen a GM since ive played this game, but I wonder... Ive seen them in older pic's... wth arent they out ... going to where gil sellers camp mobs? and doing anything about it...

Not a good example and here's why. I can go online right now without being in game. I can go to somepage and find spawn points for coffers, mining, logging and harvesting. I can print that map out. They even have printer sized versions of all the maps. Now, I can just as easily log into the game in un-windowed version and have the exact same information on a sheet of paper before me. All the windowed version gave me was that I don't have to print it out. Not to mention, I now have the lag of having this other website up as well as FFXI. So, how is it an advantage? :wink:
 
Obviously, cheating is wrong, but a windower, is not. All the of examples brought up are valid, (other games are windowed, using AIM, or games crashing a lot cause of full screen errors) I dont think it's fair that I should have my account threatened for using a program that allows me to play....I have some programs that take top priority every once and a while, this used to cause my game to crash, and with the windower, it doesn't.

The widower has basicly turned a problem which used to get me killed, screw up PTs and LS events, to the simple click of the mouse, it's pretty screwed SE didn't just make the game windowed in the 1st place....and now they are cracking down on people who use it...granted that if it's used for cheating they should be punished...but seriously...for people who just run AIM in the back, or maybe surf the web while looking for PTs, this is a major slap in the face....
 
theres no damn difference between looking in a strategy guide, and checking the web for info... stop trying to make this a big deal tyran

If you have so much time waiting for parties why dont you farm or help a friend. You said you wait 5-7 hours. Fish for gods sake. As for surfing the web (Im gonna use something someone else said (cant give credit because i dont remember who said it)) well "If you dont have time to play FFXI dont play FFXI". As for gil sellers there is nothing illegal against camping unless what? They use a Third Party Application.
 
Do you understand that the same guy that created this "Windower" has the code to bind macros and has posted it. Why cant you damn children play the way its supposed to play. Its god damn third party. If you use it you = to the gil buyers. Not only is this board dieing but the game will very soon with third party cheats.
 
Just because Windower exists, doesn't mean people are going to use it to cheat. And for the inverse, Cheating in FFXI has been around for a long time, and was rampant during the huge time period when Windower wasn't available. If someone wants to cheat, they're going to regardless if they can alt-tab between programs.

And so what if it allows for Macros? According to SE, as long as someones available at the time a GM sends that "check" tell to you to respond to them, there isn't anything wrong with macroing/botting(Again, these exist outside of Windower as well.) So guess what? SE allowing it, means it isn't cheating.
 
I'm too lazy to read everything in this topic. I'll just say this. Unless you specifically state that you are using Windower or talk about the features that it (currently) gives you, there is no way a GM can tell that you are running it. All of the TP and MP and HP information about everyone in your alliance is stored in the RAM of your computer. Windower just reads it from there and displays it. The exact same thing happens whenever a pt/alliance member uses the <tp> command. Those commands read from the same place as Windower does.

Just be careful and you should be just fine. Don't go hogwild with plugins for Windower when they come out, don't make a big deal out of the currently available features, and for the love of all that is good and holy, don't say the words "Windower" and "LOL I'm using" in the same sentence. :)
