This is our community. Deal with it. I'm sick of so much fucking whining. Do we really need rules about every fucking thing?

OMG Derail!!! What should we doo!!! OMG!

Some of you guys act like this is the worst thing you've ever seen.

I agree with the OP. I originally came to this forum because I had been told it was a place where events could be scheduled (back in the day, I didn't belong to a LS with high lvls, in fact as a lvl 50 PLD I was the highest job in my LS) and where guides, FAQs and other such things could be found about FFXI.

I also figured that like any other forum, there were likely boards where people could discuss RL topics, maybe have an art section where they could post their art and what not.

Now, the majority of the time that I come to read any topic, you can't even get to the end of the page before seeing the typical derailment by the same posters who seem to only do so for "shits and giggles".

I'm sorry, but you know its kinda getting old. Its like an old joke that is no longer funny, and while i'm sure some people still find it humorous its not really improving the quality of topics we have at this forum, to attract new users. There's no longer any "content" in the majority of the topics, and if there is, its lost after the second page as people start having a conversation about themselves, something they did, or even something perverted.

What happened to people coming to a forum to contribute something? Well I guess depending on how you may take that, those that derail might claim to be contributing in their own form... and really, its fine to have some topics that are only created with the intention to have some laughs, but those should be kept seperate from topics that have another purpose.

The best comparison I can make is that someone draws a masterpiece, and then you have "Bob" come along and take a marker and draw all over it, because he thinks its funny. Now that masterpiece has been ruined.

To those that like to derail threads, have a little respect for the person who made the topic and keep your derailing comments to yourself because when you post your "pc+1" post, all you're doing is inviting others to join in and then the original purpose of the thread is lost, and you've just ruined someone's thread.

When someone asks a question, it gets answered (most often). When someone makes a ::good:: flame, it stays on track for many, many, pages. Good discussions in other forums stay on track as well (I.E. PS3 vs Wii thread, even though it's fanboi'd to hell.). After someone's question has been answered, and the thread gets derailed, who the fuck cares? If someone makes a shitty poll in FFXI:GD and it gets derailed, who the fuck cares? If someone makes a godawful flame and it gets derailed, who the fuck cares?

Yeah, I know, I derail a lot, but generally only if the thread already blows ass. People complain about derailing likes it's the end of the fucking world, but if the thread is already boring as shit, what's a few funny one-liners gonna hurt anyone?

In reference to people spamming useless topic.. Meh, what's the big deal, the bad topic will naturally fall off the board, and the good ones will stay up at the top.. If you go past the first 5-10 non-stickied topics.. you're likely to be necro'ing a 5+ day old thread anyways.

I don't understand why people make such a big fuckin deal out of derailing. Yeah, if a good thread get's completely derailed before it has reached some sort of conclusion, feel free to complain. But when a flame/discussion has gone in circles 14 and a half times, why the hell does it matter?

Face it, QCDN has become as much, if not more, a place for entertainment, as it has a site for FFXI information. We have as many sub-forums for non-FFXI shit as we do for FFXI.

I am sick and tired of coming to this site to see pointless and stupid threads posted daily. I will right now say that this is coming from my own personal opinion, not the Miros as a mod. I don't care about the fact that there is a low level NM that spawned in front of you in an area where people frequently travel in. Chances are they will get it before you finish the post. I also, do not care if you need a Raise 3 in sea, or sky, or down the street. That's why you have a linkshell, that's why you have friends, that's why we have PMs here.

I also do not care much for people who walk in a thread and turn it into their own. Derailment is a shitty thing nowadays. Would love to fix it, but frankly we don't have the power to change the rules since we have to go through Reeve, and well...we all know how much Reeve looooooves to help. I used to view this site as a site for both information and entertainment. The General Discussions forum used to be filled with helpful information, now it's just spammed with "omg what should I name my toon?!" or "r3 {can I have it?}" and it's driving me insane. Entertainment wise...the flameboard used to be good when we had people who could flame and do it well. Now we have banned anyone who is skilled at flaming, or watered down the flameboard enough so no one cares to read much anymore.

So I ask of you...no...everyone. Chill the fuck out. This is a forum that really has no area for improvement, so sit back and enjoy the ride.

Then quit coming to the site?

I was reminded of a painting I saw once with the words "Sniff My Crotch" scribbled on it.

The only time qcdn is informative is right after a patch.

The rest of the time it's flames and stupid shit. I mean really, what else is there to learn? What else is there to say?

I agree with your entire post.

This is "The Internet" in "The Twenty-First Century". People on "The Internet" have the attention span of a 2 year old. That's just the way our current generation has been raised. They are introduced to the net early and with all of the info available, they just bounce around like hyperactive crackheads, which then becomes their standard pattern of behavior. They start to read a topic and then lose interest and post about whatever else is on their mind at the time, be it cats or porn or nachos or whatever.

So your answer is.. We're all a bunch of ADHD-ridden morons? That must be it.

Bingo.

Though that can't be said about everyone. There are new players of FFXI who join QCDN, ask a simple question that most of the community already knows the answer to, and then are barraged with a handful of replies from people who look down on them. They're new, give 'em a break.

If someone asks what you (in general) would consider a dumb question, take a second to think that they are now where you were 3+ years ago. If we can skip the belittlement there could be decent topics coming out of the new players.

Woohoo! Got my useful post out of the way, now I can troll the rest of the day and get my derailing on.
What he said!

Wait... But don't useless spam threads deserve a royal shatting on? In the very least until it is recognised as such a thread and some sort of action is taken by the mods?

Is that horrid Tremor Ram abomination even locked yet?

QCDN should have its own "Spam" board, where people can create topics that aren't really going to offer anything other than a few laughs, so that derailing posts can be kept out of serious topics. Regardless if someone thinks the topic "sucks", if there is an attempt to either get some information or offer information that is going to help (be it FFXI or a RL topic), there shouldn't be pointless posts, aka derailments in that thread.

And the reason I think people are complaining, is because if you look at some topics, after maybe 1-3 posts there's a derailment, and others will then focus on that derail and you can then say good bye to what is probably the only thing that can attract new members to these forums.

No.. my answer is that this is the internet. This is what people do. Find me a message board where 6/7 of the topics don't just get derailed after a while and I'll show you a message board that isn't a public forum on the internet.

Okay, that's fair lol. I thought you were just attacking the intelligence of all the posters. While it seems a good amount of the posters on this board have limited intellect, I'd say it's the minority.

Yes! Everything should have it's own place! Everything should have order! We should have no randomness whatsoever! If you want to post a piece of advice, it should go in the advice section. Have a picture of cats? Put it with the other kitties! Order, order, order! Nothing random! Everything in it's right place!

It won't work, this would require OPs to admit that their thread is "full of fail" etc.

When a noob posts a question, it gets answered.. and then the thread gets derailed. If a noob makes a useless pool, it gets immediately derailed... I doubt that anything will change that, lol.

Zer has pretty much been able to sum up how I feel, I just suck at putting it into well written words. :S And actually she hit the main point of my annoyance on the mod forum, which I'm sure I'll be explaining soon. lol

I just saw this...

You know, I agree with this, but if I can find them, I'll show you a few threads created for this purpose that have been locked by mods. Mods saying "this has no point." and locking it, and yet complaining about derailing, yet we make a thread purposely devised to be random, and it gets locked... Lemme see if I can find em.

If thread derailing is such a big problem, why don't the mods just strip the offending posts out? I know they can, because I remember a certain good times topic about.. god, dynamis or something I think that had posts stripped out of it on three separate occasions over the span of two days. You can lock threads, you can delete posts, but it's not going to stop anything until you either make a very specific and enforced rule about derailment or you build a new internet.

make a very specific and enforced rule about derailment

This is where it goes to shit. We discuss implementing a new rule, we'll all have different ideas, and the one person we turn to for the final answer never gives two shits.

edit - I'm not worried about the small derails, such as a thieves knife conversation that gets derailed and starts talking about all knives for thiefs...I'm thinking the ones that are just more obvious and you sit back and have to wonder what the OP was even about.

Well, some great threads have sprung up from derails... The bonecrafting thread, for example. Started with a simple dirty image, and turned into a porn fest.

The Avatar Porn discussion thread... I forgot what the original was, but it ended in us discussing the tit avatars for a good 500posts or so.
