Was wondering if there are any threads out there that mention the utility of new jobs. Also if anything interesting (NMs) and what not, released during the expansion. I'd rather not waste my money otherwise.

Probably more, but I can't remember off the top of my head.
DNC makes a terrific sub in campaign from what I've heard, but I can't say I've heard much about SCH.

Campaign itself is arguably reason enough to get the expansion: practical and convenient way of soloing exp on any job starting in the 50's or so. Start when you like. Stop when you like. And pretty fun overall too. Exp/hr is obviously much worse than a good party... but it's obviously much better than sitting around with your thumb up your butt wasting one or more entire evenings *waiting* for a good party.

Add in that DNC is an awesome situational melee sub, which many people seem to enjoy playing as a main job whether or not it'll find an endgame niche or not. SCH is a decent mage sub (noteworthy if nothing else for being able to get mainjob-level magic skills from subbing it), and an increasingly impressive/useful main job in its own right.

Story stuff is shaping up to be good, but as one would expect after the last few expansions, they're only releasing little bits at a time so if you want a lot of story from the get-go you'll be disappointed. (But you'll also have silly expectations to begin with, considering their past history, so you won't have much sympathy from me on the disappointments of those silly expectations.)

Handful of new shinyz, but like with the above paragraph, you generally have to wait a ways into any expansion before they actually come out with any *noteworthy* new gear.

Few improved travel opportunities for getting around the present too. For example, by taking advantage of a few things related to the past areas, it's now possible to coffer hunt in Garlaige 100% solo or get to the northwest corner of Batallia without going through Beaucedine.

Up to you. I like it. I know people who like it. I know people who don't like it. I'm not gonna bend over backwards convincing you. Either you'll never get it, you'll get it soon, you'll get it later and not regret the wait, or you'll get it later and kick yourself for not having gotten it earlier.

For some reason I find what Vilurum wrote here in this paragraph to be the most honest thing ever said on these boards. It's like a firm dose of "what the fuck ever" heh. But really on topic, you gotta take these expansions for what they are...expansions. Some will like them, some wont.

I believe it is 1 per tic. May be wrong, though.

It's hard to overstate the usefulness of Dancer as a subjob for melees. I used to level my Fellow on crabs as WAR72~/SAM in Kuftal and had to rest every few fights. The other day I went as WAR74/DNC with no significant gear upgrades and managed to fight for all four charges of a Tactics Pearl without resting. Dancer alone is worth getting the expansion.

I wouldn't know anyway. I've heard people talking about it, but I personally won't go out of my way to get one.

I have a lot of things planned for SCH in Salvage and Einherjar, which is the reason I'm lvling it. Now, I won't directly reveal them until I've tried them myself for various reasons, but yes. I'd say SCH and DCN are useful for several events.

had a sch in a manaburn today in the morning, gave us thunderstorm, threw on my af2 pants on lightningsday and was throwin out 2200 burst 2's...i came

i dk if i would lvl the job but it would be nice to have one at kirin throwin out windstorm on windsday

for the very least i would have sch leveled for smn, no idea of how well the job works as a sub but the extra abilities outside of whm seem very promising.

dnc, I'm not sure how it works so well i may unlock it for a sub or mainjob, but I have plenty of work to do with the others I have now and more important subs to level...

like drk and nin and finish thf

Stuff you should have done a long time ago lazy ass.

Scholar would be extremely good as a sub for Rdm if it got Erase. I intend to level it anyway since there are some specific places I figure it might have use, aka the Blm party. It's a great sub for Whm hands down as long as you don't need the utility spells of Blm (or Elemental Seal).

As previously stated, Dancer for subjob use is awesome. Makes solo farming on a melee job and things of that nature much easier, and much more fun. Campaign is cool, but I'm not really into it as much as many others are. The mission line is kind of lacking so far, but that was to be expected. I wasn't very impressed by this last update, which means I'll be waiting another 4 months before I really find any more value in this expansion :-/

it has some nice tricks but they don't match up or they aren't all that desirable on rdm main, I usually don't need the job abilities since convert and DS is enough for me to survive, i'd rather sub whm, I'm still pissed that sch got regen II at 37 while rdm doesn't have it at all...

I'd rather have it for my smn for sublimation

After taking a 2 month break in Jan and Feb, I now have over 120,000 allied notes from campaign. I'm going to guess that I've gotten at least 100k exp from campaign battles. I did several levels in the 50's and 60's on dnc solely in campaign battles.

My dnc is 74, and as much as I hate when other people do this, I like to pull a mob off to the side to solo it while they fight everything else. Doing this, I can pretty much be guaranteed 1500+ exp each time. As dnc, the evasion keeps me from getting beat up, but I get hit enough to where I can heal myself (waltz iv = ~600 hp for 70tp) and keep my tp up thanks to using steps (debuffs) and violent flourish. The autoattack damage, the healing, and the debuffing all add up to quite a bit. It's easy to pull 1200 or so exp in a 15 minute campaign battle if I've got a mob all to myself.

They are desirable even with the limitation on art switching, I simply desire Reraise/Erase more. I could live without Divine Seal.

Colibri are what, something like 50-72 a kill? They take about a minute to kill, then you have to hope that no one is also camping them.

I can get 1200+ in 15-20 minutes in besieged and get allied notes, which also counts toward rank up.

How good a SJ is it for brd? blink doesn't do much in big fights and while stoneskin has saved my life before I could just do an event with a sch , smn or blu nearby or even just hit the reraise button and keep singing.
for merits it kinda depends on other factors i don't know too well atm. Most people would /nin anyway and outside of regen 2 i dont know if there is a difference for /whm that is pertinent to brd outside of losing teleports.
