Valid Reason for the "N" bomb??

Knowing Myrrh, he'd blurt it out and not bat an eye.

And no, he's not racist at all lol.

They do it for the same reason gay people call each other "faggot"
Never seen it.

So can I start calling my fellow Christians "fairy-tale dreamers" in an effort to take back the term as my revenge for....20 years or so of your belligerence?

If you like. It's not like I'd be there to care. Although I laugh at the idea of a persecuted majority howling about how they're being mistreated by a tiny cabal of atheists.

I can, and I do. I don't feel I'm being cheated. The term has been used for centuries to denigrate a specific group of people, and I don't really see any reason for a white person in this day and age to still be using it unless they're trying to reinforce some idiotic pecking order. Racism is still alive and well, so acting like those words have no power these days is just wishful thinking.

They do it for the same reason gay people call each other "faggot" and will still jump all over a homophobic loudmouth for using it. It's about context. Stealing the word back and beating you over the head with it is our revenge for centuries of your stupidity.

Come again?

Well I certainly see the issue there. Don't fucking bitch about being called a "GOOF" (which has a terrible meaning behind it) then turn around and call everyone in your family and your circle of friends and anyone who happens to perhaps dress or look like you "goof". Where do you get off?

See to me, that's a ridiculous argument. I've heard a couple of my friends call each other ++++++ and I have jumped on them the same way had it been a Caucasian friend. It's ignorant imo and unnecessary. But if it's going to be used as regularly and loosely as 'hi, hello, what's up or whats new' I say fuck you and your pompous "you're not allowed to use OUR word" attitude. THAT'S the principal I was referring to =)

They do it for the same reason gay people call each other "faggot" .

Yea and my best friend Joey can't STAND that word, not short form, no relative connection even. He's bisexual and won't really even go with 'bi', he just "loves people". He gets extremely insulted. There's no gay man who could call him that and offend him less than if it were to come from me! lol

And I call my white dog a cracker. If I had a different coloured dog I'd prolly use a racial slur for that colour. It has nothing to do with racism. It's just a joke. I find it hilarious that we put so much emphasis on colour when it shouldn't matter. We are all born the same way, we all breath, live, die the same way. We all have idiots who do stupid shit for every colour. That's just me though. I don't expect other people to get that. And Blacky Mc++++++ton isn't a nickname I'd call my dog around someone it could offend.

I can see how the words can be offensive but at the same time I don't see why it should matter in 2009. White people, black people, asains, mexicans, Arabs, and w/e else I'm missing.

And I generally hate everyone(and I mean everyone). A large majority of people are nothing but morons who smoke/do drugs/waste their lives when they have a chance to live, grow old, and make something of themselves when theres people out there who are forced to die young because of diseases.

Again, that's just me. I don't expect people to see my way. I was just voicing my opinion on the whole N word thing. I don't find racist words to be any different from other swear words.

Hey shitfucker, you love me. I guess that means I'm no-one!

Yay you insulted me by proxy!

In the end racism is kind of dying out and we're more commonly seeing separation by class and wealth in many countries throughout the world.

THIS

If you guys were paying attention the insults she threw out were;

"White piece of shit crack head. You're just jealous because I'm driving and you're walking"

That's racism mixed with stature, just plain ignorance really.

Building on what GP said, she probably calls her phone an iphone or a blackberry too.

See to me, that's a ridiculous argument. ... I say fuck you and your pompous "you're not allowed to use OUR word" attitude.

Ownership of that word has only been transferred in the recent past. The problem is who owned and used that word for centuries. It wasn't hip-hop artists.

You're entitled to disagree, but you asked why it's that way and I answered. Context is important. You can't honestly tell me the word doesn't have a different connotation when it's tossed between two black guys and when it's coming from, say, a white cop who pulled those same black dudes over.

I think the name has enough cultural baggage that I don't like hearing it from anyone, no matter the color. I deduct I.Q. points when I hear it, and I deduct twice as many when I hear it from a white person. Growing up in rural West Virginia, there were plenty of opportunities.

We recently had a story in the paper about how our local police force got its statistics back showing they were twice as likely to pull over black drivers as they were white ones. The chief insists there's no racism involved. I think he's just blind to it the way a lot of people in the majority are, and then get upset when a minority group points it out. When you're in the privileged class, you take a lot of stuff for granted.

"I'm takin' it back."

Being that there are a lot of ol' white folk living around here, its unfortunate that there is still some rampant (allbeit quiet) stupidity.

LONG time ago we had my brothers graduation party from High School and my Uncle Woodrow (he's got a name like a 1970's cop show, its fucking awesome), a black man, came and parked in front of the house and walked into the backyard with his white wife and their son. I was chilling in the front yard with cousins and a friend from down the block came over on his bike and was like "My dad said that you're a <slur>lover because you have that <slur> in your back yard." with this stupid little ugly grin.

My uncle heard him and also saw me pop the kid in the mouth but didn't pull me off of him.

I don't really tollerate that kind of shit, but I know a joke when I hear one. If my pale-ass white friend is saying "What be up <abbreviation of slur>!?" I know he's just being retarded and looking to make people laugh.

One of the main things I have to say, and this goes for all words of a derogatory nature... A word/name/thing can only have power if you allow it to have power. If you let a name, sign or phrase have control over your emotions, it will.

I don't fully disagree. What I'm simply saying is this, if we can't use it with the same nonchalant disregard as 'they' do towards OUR friends and buddies what the hell gives them the right? It's the same as crying wolf.

I'm not saying a white guy saying it to some random black guy would be used necessarily in the same context, but what if it is? What then? It's still not 'allowed', it's still insulting and racist even with no negative regard. I call that... BULLSHIT =p

BTW, you got to be some stunned arse to not understand tone of voice, or pick out underlying snark in someone's tone. Therefore it's VERY easy to pick-up on the context immediately, especially using a word such as ++++++.

A word/name/thing can only have power if you allow it to have power. If you let a name, sign or phrase have control over your emotions, it will.

Good for him, he should have called her worse. When you insult someone, you pick what you think will piss them off the most. If someone provoked me, especially by almost killing me, the last thing I'm worried about is hurting their feelings or being politically correct.

I'm going to institute what was said in the ever so knowledgeable show, "The Boondocks" (Part in bold is emphasized):

Gin Rummy: Man, I don't get that.

Ed Wuncler III: Get what?

Gin Rummy: That textin' shit!

Ed Wuncler: And what's wrong with textin'?

Gin Rummy: You mean aside from the fact that it's the stupidest fucking thing in the world? I mean, why would anyone in their right mind spend fifteen minutes tryin' to type some shit they could've called and said in five seconds? Plus, it involves typing with your thumbs, which I just don't approve of. Shit, I don't know about you, but I don't have time to read nothin' that a motherfucker typed with his thumbs. Fun fact: Nothing typed by someone's thumbs has ever been important. It's all just N.igga Technology anyway.

Ed: What'd you call it?

Gin Rummy: Ni.gga Technology. Technology for Ni.ggas. And you don't start trippin' and shit, call me a racist. 'Cause I don't mean Ni.gga in a disrespectful way, I mean it as a general term for an ignorant motherfucker. Anybody of any race can be an ignorant motherfucker.

It's just a word people. If words can't physically harm you (which they can't), why let it bother you.

And there is what I was getting at earlier in this topic lol

Maybe I should have added to the title.. I mean when or is it EVER a valid time to use that name addressed to a black person.. because of the negative connotation.

However I think that has been answered. I think Make said it best.

I have a black friend.. I call him fi fi.... Because when I met him he gave me a high five and said "whats up dawg" so he is dubbed fi fi for callin me dawg... He calls me the N word all the time and I am white....
