Those of you who are not able to understand my stance on legitimate gameplay, I feel sorry for you.

Browsing a webpage like somepage is not contradictory to being a user of this forum. If my name were all over somepage, I would ask for it to be removed as well. Please don't think I'm being biased over Sculli's decision, I don't want to be apart of any webpage that condones the advertisement of cheating.

It's sad that a forum rich with players from our server would be willing to upgrade to "Better Mods, Better smilies, less bandwidth issues" for the return of supporting these companies who help players cheat their way through games. This forum could be running without that, as it has before. Nearly all other forums that I frequent, do not need Ads to support them. And you know, one of them frequents more users from every server in this game - unlike QCDN.




Sorry for those of you who think I'm "taking the easy way out", "disregarding my fellow players", "acting hastly among conspiracy", "throwing blind threats of leaving"....I'm sorry but I just do not want to be involved with any type of RMT support.

Flee hacking to kill a powerfull NM and then bragging about it on the forum is another issue. I know players who might not have seen this, but it's right infront of your own eyes in the Good Times section.

In regards to the flee hacking of this NM. I don't mean to spark any flames, I just know people who cheat and feel sorry for their false sense of accomplishment.


Anyway, I hope Sculli can give me the respect as a legitimate player and delete my name from this forum.

Why would Sculli care if you leave? He went and made a forum for people to use, which you have used just shy of a year, Kolid. Dowzer, you've used the forum for about a year and a half. This forum only helps you to know what's been happening, yet you complain when the person who's been paying for the forum THAT YOU USE posts something because he was sent it by the company that wants ads on the site. By playing FFXI you enable those who are "cheating" in your opinion. Your FFXI subscription fee allows "cheaters" to play the game.

"Cheating" takes the fun away for you, do not make the mistake of projecting your definition of fun onto everyone else.

I hafto absolutely disagree with this =/ In any RPG you're gonna hafto spend time levelling or making money or generally killing some repetitive crap for a rare item. All RPGs do this, MMO or not. If someone doesn't like the way the game's preprogrammed, they shouldn't have the choice to skip over doing the work inbetween the stuff the may consider fun. If they wanna play "omgfun24/7lolz" they can go load up RPGMaker 2k3 or and make their own damn game. Til then, they really should just deal with how the game naturally is or go play something else.

Regardless of my personal opinion, my point is that different people consider different things "fun". Saying that someone who buys gil is having less fun in the game is simply wrong. Some people who buy gil have less fun than those who don't, no doubt, but some do have more fun than they would have if they weren't buying gil. That's just reality.

The anti-RMT argument that comes up often is: It's against the TOS. Those who say that then go on and violate federal copyright laws by listening to MP3s they don't have originals for. They go on to drive above the legal speed limit, which is a violation of state and local law, and actually endangeres real world lives - those same people cite the TOS over and over. GTFO, that's all I can say about that. Every time they break the law in the real world, they do it at the expense of other people, yet for some reason they find a bare shadow of that behaviour unacceptable in FFXI.

RMT is not to blame for the poverty of some players, only their own ineptitude is. Every single player has 100% of the potential to be wealthy in game without to buy gil. However, some "legitimate" players get very wealthy, while others can not afford an Apple Juice. The difference? Attitude and ability.

Not saying a gilbuyer won't have fun while a legit player will, but it does mean that they're skipping over a natural part of the game that everyone should hafto deal with, that being the part where everyone goes out and farms or joins exp parties or whatever.

Regarding the impact of RMT, unless there were a server with same populus to compare with, there wouldn't be any possible way to say wether RMT has or hasn't effected the economy...if they did do any damage, it's already been done. Prices may have been just as bad, they may have been even worse. They may have been better...there's no way to tell.

I agree that their ineptitude is a reason for them being poor (though some people may have just came upon a horrible turn of luck - a person scamming them or a craft breaking), but people buying gil to escape poverty seems to just mean the person's given up on putting any effort towards their character atl all..

I see building your character like building a ship in a bottle. Might take you more time than others, might even be a screwup along the way that might send you back a few steps, but if you pay someone else to build the ship for you, where's the bragging rights? Rather, how can you possibly brag at all? The biggest bragging right you can get out of that is saying you got someone else to do the work for you, in which y'can probably impress more people by teaching a dog to bark, in the end..

But that of course leads to the possible case that most of these people obviously don't care what others think of them or else they wouldn't do something the open public is mostly against, and if they're gonna be a turd and not care what anyone else in the entire game thinks, why play an MMO at all? There's dozens of games out there with no actual end that can be played all by one's self that can have content cheated thru to hell and back that DOESN'T require having to deal with other people, since they don't care about the opinions of others ANYWAY.

Personally, I feel that people that rely on purchased gil have an equal amount of fun as others with the game. Being the boring person I am, I actually enjoy the monotony of the grind, I always have found it to be quite soothing. But it would be pretty foolish of me to think the same applies for a gilbuyer. Gilbuyers, it seems are more in the game for the story, and the instant gratification of new gear, rather than the grind of farming and crafting and camping. I can't say I blame them, as it can be frustraiting to see something you want and know that translates into countless hours of menial tasks.

Of course, no matter how much gil you buy, you can never actually buy the XP to level, so there is a level of accomplishment there, albeit not as much as actually farming for the equipment to wear. I would say a level 75 DRK DRG MNK or WAR most deffinately put in their hours and can deffinately say they've accomplished something by reaching 75. They do get a limited amount of bragging rights, just not to the level others that played in a more legitimate fashion might have.

I would certainly take a talented player in RMT purchased gear over some shmuck with mediocre talent and sub par gear. I wouldnt be as impressed with them, as it should be a given they have the best they can get, but in the end, I XP for results, and my morals shouldn't have to clash with someone I should only have to intereact with for a limited time.

I'd say the one true evil to RMT is the temptation it gives to others to act on their inherent laziness. While its true they are missing out on one aspect of the game, every bit of the story they complete shows on the screen just like mine, and every Rare/Ex item they get is through their own merits. [Disounting the whole EternalGuardian/Vivian Ring fiasco.]
