Prices went way up when gil got cheap, then prices went way down after gil was removed from the RMT and prices on gil shot up. Coincidence? I think not >.>
Gil is gil, who it was removed from is irrelevant. If I deleted Odon's account with his claimed hundreds of millions, there would be an impact on the server eventually. The fact that it was removed from RMT merely means that that particular portion of the gil that was removed was held by high turnover accounts.
Does RMT affect server prices? Yes, but not to the extent of that price spike at xmas. That was more of a snowball effect driven by greed than anything else, and an awful lot of the people driving that were people that complain about RMT. People getting Xmas gil might have started the spike, but it was mostly people that don't buy gil who drove it to it's full height.
As for the coupon.... well, at this point, the banner ads have been changed on somepage at least to include it. And I fail to see why anyone should care.
"Wah, you're enabling RMT!" So are you, by playing the game.
"Wah, you're helping Gilbuyers!" Why not? Honestly, who gives a shit if people choose to spend their MONEY on gil rather than spending their TIME on gil?
"Wah, you're encouraging people to buy gil!" In what concievable universe can that be thought of as a rational statement? People don't buy gil aren't gonna go 'Holy crap, 10% off!!! Now I can finally get that SH I always wanted!!'.
Do I approve of RMT? Not especially. I don't approve of anyone that uses grief tactics to get their way. I don't approve of anyone that finds exploits to bring tons of new gil into the economy. Oddly enough, a lot of the people who continually piss and moan about RMT do or have done one or both of those things. Do I go out of my way to grief RMT? Not for a long time. I enjoyed killing off all the fishbots in Korroloka Tunnel for a while, but after a few fixes SE finally made that exploit unprofitable for them and they went away.
