Tyrath's idea wouldn't work. How many NMs pop in areas where people xp a lot. The problem here isn't campers killing the mobs, it's the NM killing the xp party.

What happens when you're leveling in Onzozo and you get Ose? I've been in a lvl 60 party that handled him pretty well (pld even), but most parties won't be able to pull that off.

Something that can be both fun and successful, is following those that constantly claim VE all over the place. Shadow them till pop.
They'll probably be annoyed that you're doing it, but, ahem...Fuck em.

That happened to Theo while he was camping emp after we came back. OMG did that piss him off.

I sorta agree with this. I really dont like the term "Jap" and in anycase, it are most of the chinese ppl that are Gil selleres not japanese. Although, i wouldnt had gone as far as calling them idiot for not knowing. Simply correcting them would do.

i was at dunes in the last 2 days too.. 0/5 same as OP ... guess my TH2 sucks.
besides i have never had this kinda of bad streak even when i was hunting VE for money 1 yr ago.

anyways i dun think you can blame anyone for not killing PH. most ppl with Widescan will spam it non stop and would be too busy to kill PH. IMHO spamming WS is even more trickier and tiring than killing PH.

however ^^; i have to disagree with onions .. there's still tons of ppl camping VE.. and most of the time there's someone standing at the sweet spots. what's worse is that the drop rate seems to have really nerfed .. sometimes i think i can make 2 times more money than selling E pin if i didn't spend 2 days in dunes, or at least take my war to rampage lvl

Now you're missing the point, saying it's smarter just to spam widescan. It's obviously to advantage and that's the OP's complaint. If nobody kills placeholders then the NM will not pop. It's not strategy so much as leeching by that affect. You can't just spam widescan without other campers killing the placeholders.

So the OP is not saying they are stupid for just sitting there spamming, but that they are immoral, which has some merit.

The game dynamics are what they are. You can roll with the punches and write SE letters. That's about it.

You seen how many parties are on that beach lately? During the hours I’m on I’ve seen one party there . . . maybe. So let’s see . . . one potential PH killed every 3-4 minutes . . . Ya know? Offin the PHs myself is starting to sound better and better.

I've never been alone there. So I use widescan.

And ive killed alot.. i mean ALOT.. of Emps..
Im probably one of those thieves or rangers you see just standing there..
Because..
The best way to camp a NM.. is to focus and be ready when it pops..
Not be engaged to another mob when it pops..

Btw, post update, Ive camped emperor with virtually nobody camping it.. and I still didnt kill flies in the area.. yet it still managed to pop, like clockwork.

Ive come to the conclusion that it does not pop in place of a damselfly, but rather, pops randomly, independently in its own set of pop points.

that is all.

Just tossing it out there, but if you're killing the PHs and a wide scan whore comes and just sits there, then just stop killing all of the PHs except one. Stay in the general area where that one PH repops (and you'll know the exact time since you killed it) and if VE pops you'll be right there for the claim before wide scan man Flees his way over there. Just be sure WS man doesn't see you doing it or he'll sit right next to you, haha.

Alternatively, just stop killing PHs completely, go to WS man and /sit right next to him or something so he knows you aren't going to do his "dirty work" for him. Sorry, but I can't see why you'd be complaining about this and continue to do it at the same time.

One thing that's always kinda bugged me about rare/ex NM camps is that essentially, you're solo camping something that has become a community-based commodity. Why not just party up with everyone present and lot it after the fact? That way, you've got the best of both worlds - those killing PHs (if that really helps) and those spamming widescan.

I know that may sound kinda like Pollyanna, pie-in-the-sky wishful thinkin, but here's an interesting quote from Dr. Nash (that guy Russel Crowe played in A Beautiful Mind:

Thomas Payne wrote that the best result comes when every member of a group acts in their own best interests. He was wrong. The best result comes when the individual does what is best for himself and the group.

The math that backed up that statement won Nash the Nobel Prize, and it might be somethin that can be applied at certain NM camps.

Reuland, you're telling a guy who camped Argus/LK for 2 weeks......that I'm poorly informed about the state of this particular NM camp?

I'm 3/3 on Argus. 1/1 on the Charm and 2/2 on the Amulet.

Before the patch my buddy and I had 4 hairpins drop out of 6 kills.

I'm sorry but I know my NMs. I'm very competitive when it comes to camping them. 1/3 on THF's knife has turned into 1/50+

It is fun to lay claim on a rare monster.

It is fun to beat everyone to it.

If you're stressed about camping NMs, don't camp them.

lol Actually, I was talkin about the VE camp in particular over the past month or so. It's been really quiet out on that beach from what I've seen, so I can totally understand Valk's frustration.

I'll say this tho - if he doesn't really have PHs (anymore, if ever?), then I see absolutely nothin wrong with just watchin for the pop.
