So a few weeks ago, the 'Vibrate' function on my phone broke. I don't know how it happened, all I know is that my phone no longer buzzes when I have a new voicemail, or when I set my phone on silent.

Last week, my phone stopped alerting me to new voicemails completely. There was no text or flashing lights or anything to let me know I had a message waiting for me.

So I get to work yesterday and my boss was yelling at me about something he apparently left me a message about last weekend. When I checked my voicemail, I found I had seven fucking messages. (Four of them were from my mom: three about me not calling home enough, and one about not checking my messages.)

As if sensing my frustration, I got a text message from Verizon saying I was eligible for a new phone. Hooray, I thought. And what incredible timing.

I go to my Account at Verizon Wireless' website and pick my sweet new phone. I re-enter all my info and click submit. I was stuck with them for two more years, but the discount and new phone was worth it. It said the phone would ship that day.

Today, as I was scraping the snow off my car, (three inches this morning, fuck you month of April), my phone fell out of my coat pocket and the screen popped off. "That's ok," I thought. The Verizon store is exactly two blocks away, so I'd probably have my new phone tonight.

This morning I get an email from FedEx, saying my package is on its way, from fucking Tennesse. You can see a Verizon Wireless store from my parking lot, but my phone is being shipped from over 400 miles away.

So now I'm stuck with a phone that doesn't vibrate, doesn't alert me when I miss calls/get messages, and doesn't have a fucking screen so i can't see who is calling me, or what number I am dialing. Lame.

If this phone takes more than two days to get here, I am stabbing the FedEx guy.

I guess I've been really lucky with my phone, I've had it for about a year and a half without any problems.

And you should impale the FedEx guy with your old phone.

It's in TN because that's where the FedEx hub is. Anything that gets shipped via FedEx goes through Memphis, even if it's an overnight letter that's going within the same city. That's just how they work, I'm not really sure why.

Good news is that you're far more likely to get your phone relatively quickly and undamaged via FedEx than UPS. It's been my experience that theyir system is more efficient and reliable, despite their routing everything through the TN hub.

This is why i don't like Cell phones. the break to easily. I mean you drop one in a slurpee a few times and it breaks <_<

Best of luck getting your new phone. I hope that you not getting notifications is not a "system" issue, and your old phone is fine.

For the reasons you state, is the reason I use T-mobile. If I want a new phone, I buy one, and put my SIM Card in, and no one's the wiser. If you break a Verizon phone, you're either buying a new phone at full price, or breaking your contract for 150bux (or so).

The vibration function is usually an easy fix. We get them in my store all the time. Usually dirt just gets in there and makes it unable to vibrate.

The voicemail, however, is a system issue. I wouldn't be surprised if your new phone still has the same problem. I would talk to the Verizon guys and see if there is an issue. Though, it could also be your phone 'talking' with the tower incorrectly. That happens sometimes.

As for the screen, usually just easy to pop back on. I hope you get your phone in soon, man. D:

These are all logical responses. I wish I had posted about my phone before I had bought a new one. Damnit ><

I work warranty on cell phones for cingular wireless so this topic is near and dear to my heart. (cause i want to physically harm most of the retards that call me)

With the vibrate on the phone not working there are only two things that you can do to try and fix it that have any chance of fixing the problem. The first is to look through your settings and make sure that you didnt turn vibrate off. 10% of the time that is the issue. If that doesnt work your gonna need to try and do a reset on the phone. The way that you do a reset is generally just to remove the battery from the phone while the phone is on and since it didnt go through the shut down process correctly it will default and if its software it will start working.

Now at this point if the vibrate is still not working its a hardware issue and its time to replace or repair the phone. Realistically repairing the phone is a colossal waste of time and money since it will probably run ya about 100 to fix it and you'll be about 6 weeks without a phone which is the reason that my department exists. Except for then you said the screen popped off which kinda worries me cause im not sure exactly what you mean by that terminology but if the display came detached from the device you are fairly boned.

Now if the phone was under 1 year old, which im assuming it was not since you were apparently upgrade eligible which doesnt happen til 1 year and 9 months into a 2 year contract, you could replace the phone through the warranty process free of charge so long as the phone doesnt have liquid or phys damage, (keep in mind tho that generally the phones that you get from warranty will be refurbished).

Now the only real mistake that i see you made was that you went about replacing the phone incorrectly. If you are upgrade eligible you can go into a store pick out the phone you want and get it activated instantly. But since you decided to go through the website you are now kinda hosed into waiting for the phone to arrive since they are not going to give you a second one.

Good luck and i hate to hear when this happens to people but i hope you get everything straightened up.

Outta curiosity what kind of phone did u get? Anything neat? I know they carry the Samsung SCH-i830 which looks entertaining.

Yeah, I was online to shop around before I went in to the store, but it said the phone would be cheaper through the website, so I did it there.

I got a Samsung SCH-u620.

That's cooky Dejavu. We stock pile used phones for parts and whatnot. If you got a broken vibrator (TEEHEE) we just pop a new one in there for you. No fuss, no mess.

well according to cingular even employees are not allowed to take apart the phone past removing the battery or it voids the warranty so ... replacing the phone is the best option
