Version Update - October 15

FINAL FANTASY XIV Version Update (Oct. 15)

Quote

Market wards have been modified as follows:

  • Wards are now assigned specific item categories.
  • Items corresponding to a ward’s item category will receive lower tax rates than items that do not correspond to the category.
  • For an example of the new ward names and item categories, please visit the following page:
  • ( http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=693682a80ae927d74b11a0381c7cd1af570568aa )
  • Targeting and selecting a retainer will automatically open their Bazaar.
  • The party bonus system (which awards bonus skill points for battles fought in a party) has been changed so that the bonus is awarded based on the number of fellow party members in the same area who are within the appropriate skill rank range, not simply the total number of party members.
  • The party bonus system awards more points when there are more party members within the appropriate skill rank range.
  • In this case, "appropriate skill rank range" means a skill rank no more than five ranks lower or higher than your own.
  • The maximum numbers of crystals and shards each character and retainer is capable of carrying has been changed to 9,999.
  • With the maximun numbers of crystals and shards that can be transferred at one time through trade and bazaar will remain as 999.
  • This is a temporary measure and crystals or shards obtained in excess of this amount will automatically be discarded. The system is undergoing a fundamental redesign and adjustments will continue to be made.
  • Caution on numbers that can be traded at one time through trade and bazaar has been added at around 2:50 PDT on Oct. 15, 2010.
  • NPC display priority has been modified. This will ensure that important NPCs, such as Baderon, are displayed first.
  • An issue where the retainer would not appear when summoned with the Summoning Bell has been fixed.
  • An issue where the retainer would be visible to other players when summoned with the bell has been fixed.
  • An issue where text commands could be used to equip items that the player should not have been able to equip has been fixed.

FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial Period Extension

Quote

<div class="blockquote"><div class='quote'>First of all, we would like to thank you for joining us in the realm of Eorzea, and hope you are enjoying your adventures.

Since the official launch of service on September 30, 2010, we have received a wealth of constructive feedback from the FINAL FANTASY XIV community, and the development and management teams would like to take this opportunity to express their sincerest gratitude. For those who purchased the collector’s edition and began to play one week before official service began, the month-long free play period is drawing to a close. Considering the nature of much of the feedback we received, however, and the current state of the game, we have decided to extend the free trial period for all users. Please continue reading for further details.

We would like to assure players that the world of FINAL FANTASY XIV is constantly growing and evolving, and the voices of the community are essential to that process. The development and management teams are carefully considering all player feedback, and working diligently to implement whatever changes and additions will serve to make Eorzea a better home for adventurers. We humbly ask for your continued support to this end.

Today, we have released information regarding forthcoming version updates. For further details, please view the following Lodestone Topics:

It sounds like a start to a step in the right direction, if they are going to insist on not having an Auction House feature that is.

Re: Version Update - October 15

So skill points in parties is fixed or they just gave more skill points in general?

Re: Version Update - October 15

Patience pays in the end.

I really like what I read and that SE responded quickly.

"Because our product is incomplete to say the least, we'll let those of you who paid us more than you should have (CE) play it for free for another month" is what I got out of that ...

On the bright side, I'm glad they're looking at what people have been saying, rather than just chugging along acting like there's nothing wrong with the game.

Re: Version Update - October 15

From what I read the coming patches for November / December could be the beginning of very good things. What interested me the most was the ability to store crafting recipies and the lowering of teleport costs for select areas.

It's nice to see that SE is not just turning a deaf ear on their customers.

An extension of the free trial period is the minimum they could do, considering the quality of the game atm XD
I'm happy to see that they're making some improvements, but I expected a bigger patch tbh with all the problems they have @_@;

I was waiting on this game for PS3 but it doesn't look like it's getting great feedback so far. I hope this changes.

Well, theyre headed in the right direction I guess. Guess I'll avoid cancelling my account for another month.....

I wonder if this is what they were going for. A little incentive to keep us around while they patch things up maybe?

User Interface Adjustments
In response to the generous amount of player feedback we received, a number of changes and new features will be implemented in this area. Many players have voiced dissatisfaction with several facets of the user interface, such as the chat feature and targeting mechanism, and we will be working to remedy these issues as soon as possible.

Server Lag
Notable lag has been observed in certain areas of the game, particularly when a large number of players are gathered together. To combat this, such areas will be divided into multiple "sections" for the purposes of server-side processing, thereby reducing concentrated loads and subsequent lag on individual World servers.

This makes me very happy. Hopefully this will really tone down alot of the issues people are having, especially you crafters.

Players will now be able to re-map all functions to any key (other than Esc)

THIS makes me extremely happy. I can get my inventory, equipment and tell reply keys back.

This, all of this. Basic functions that needed to be here are finally returning. Lemme search in market wards without clicking everyone and their mother and I will be a much happier panda.

I agree. After hearing about the planned updates from my little brother I finally read up on it. It really does sound like they are going to fix the majority of problems people are complaining about, which is pretty awesome and needed.

They are giving everyone a free 30 days who activate their service before Oct. 25 so it's not just CE people. Looks like I won't be canceling quite so soon.

They are going to make it a little easier to navigate. So I suppose that's a plus. Icons will represent what the bazaar is selling plus I think they will have their own areas depending on products that are being sold.

Nope.
"Only customers who have registered FINAL FANTASY XIV service account and purchased a character by Oct. 25, 2010 will be eligible for the extension of the free trial period. Customers purchasing their first character after that date will be entitled to the standard 30 day free trial period only."
