UK McDonald's rep, Steve Easterbrook made a very interesting statement recently. The fast food chain exec shared his thoughts that PC games are the reason why many children are overweight.
“The issue of obesity is complex and is absolutely one our society is facing, there’s no denial about that,” said Easterbrook. “But if you break it down I think there’s an education piece: how can we better communicate to individuals the importance of a balanced diet and taking care of themselves?
“Then there’s a lifestyle element: there’s fewer green spaces and kids are sat home playing computer games on the TV when in the past they’d have been burning off energy outside.”
To be fair, McDonald's is not saying that they're not contributing; only that children's lifestyle is to sit and play video games rather than run around and play. Although apparently they've never heard of the Wii, but that's also dependent on the kids' parents actually being able to find the thing to get one.
I need to start doing that; I usually just put up with retarded questions/comments from customers but it'd be nice to shut them up once in a while.Funny story about the Wii comment.
Some pissed off mom came in to work one day and gave me a pretty big ear full about how the Wii doesn't burn as many calories as if they were doing the actual thing they were simulating. I started laughing and asked if she wanted her kid to become a boxer. Then she left in a big huffy mood.
I love sales jobs.
One thing I have learned is that you don't play on the right side of your right-handed blonde gf while playing Tennis on the Wii. I counted at least 9 times where she dived to my side almost nailing me in the fucking temple with the controller. The proper recourse was turning off the system and grounding her from ever playing Wii Tennis again.
