Video Games

If you're actually spending money on a strategy guide, you're an idiot. The internet is there for a reason; use it.

Why? They don't have much monetary value, and they definitely don't appreciate; there's not even a "gotta catch'em all" mentality to them since there's no real collection of them. I could understand for a few, but not many.

My roommate bought the collector's edition of the Twilight Princess strategy guide; but it's a hard bound book with gold leaf pages so it looks cool. That I could see buying because it's more like an actual book, but most of the strategy guides are cheap pieces of crap.

im a collector of many things

so collecting strategy guides really isnt farfetched for me

I used to collect rocks when I was a kid. Not nice collectible rocks, pretty rocks. Collect whatever makes you happy. ;) lol

I don't buy strategy guides for everything, but I like some of them. It's just nice having the art and info in one package on the shelf, although GameFAQs has certainly cut down on my urge to buy them.

lol
i remember when all i use to play was warcraft 2, super mario world, donkey kong country, and yoshi's island
i think i beat yoshi's island once, but never the others
then the GC came out and all the games seemed soo easy
metroid prime, the windwaker, super smash bros. etc...
i beat metroid prime and windwaker each in one day
a few others would be all halos, THUG-THAW, fable, and both god of wars
and soo many more i was abe to rent and beat in 3 days
that's why i'm ffxi and guitar hero all the way, there's alot to do in both games.
that is all

Maniac Mansion NES.

'Nuff said.

Montezuma's Revenge for Commodore 64.

I was about three during the NES/SNES golden age... so most of my fond game memories don't stretch that far back. My sister and I were huge Mario Party and Donkey Kong 64 players when they were released, and we still play sometimes when she visits. My brother would always challenge me to Point Blank or the original Tekken, only because he knew I sucked at both. I still had fun though.

Oh and it just occurred to me... Does this thread really belong here? I actually read all of it and enjoyed it, so it doesn't seem to fit my criteria of what constitutes a flame :/

Dunno if someone has mentioned these, but punch out...was dam hard, I cant remember if I ever beat it.

And Gauntlet legends (which is still around today, well I think the last one made was gamecube). I remember after a certain point in this game, your health would just begin draining, and there was no way to stop it, that we knew of.

Mario 3 wasn't that horrible, if you used the whistles the game is pretty easy. But trying to beat it legit was pretty tough. Think I always used to get stuck in the world where everything is huge.

Kinda started out as why, trippy venting on how games have gone sally. But then it sorta turned into the good memories you had of the old school games.

I havent played any new games recently. The last RPG I have beaten is Xenogears, which was long and fantastic.

But besides that, theres quite a few games I enjoy on random occasion.

I still sit down and beat FFIX in a few days time, I have that game memorized, I can still get Ark without a walkthrough.

Then theres the ol' FFIV/FV/FFVI/FFVII/FFX, Super Metroid, Super Mario 3 and World, Mario 64, Donkey Kong on SNES, Contra III, Gradius, Super Mario Kart on 150cc, Earthworm Jim, Zelda: A link to the past, Megaman TWO, and Super Punch Out. All those games I have sat down with in the last 2 or 3 months and beaten, just for shits and giggles.

Have you guys seen the trailer for the new Duke Nukem game coming out

Maniac Mansion

Agreed, When you think about it that game was way before its time with the "Choices" it allowed you to make , Games now days are about free roaming non-linear Story lines and stuff like that but this game came pretty darn close to some of these new games ..it let you pick from many different people ( even a black guy) each with there own set of skills So on so on

I mean any game you can put a hamster in a microwave , blow it up and then give it back to the little kid who owned it and watch him go insane cause you just killed his friend is a winner in my book

I collect strategy guides, but only collector's editions that come with something more than just the guide. Like, I have the LoZ:TP one Baj mentioned, the FFXII collector's guide, and others that have art books or stuff like that.

Before I knew what the internets was I bought a guide for every game that I bought (this was in the 90s)

I think I probably have about 150 of them, maybe more. I went through a period around age 9-10 in which I liked to tear up anything made of paper, so a good deal of them gradually withered away to nothing.. 0.o
