Virus Alert!!! - - - Please Read!!!!

While playing FFXI i got a msg from a friend (the virus talking) saying that they found an irl picture of me and to click a link. Thinking it was my friend.. I clicked and download the 'pic' but turned out to be the virus that the friend had (which is how it's being spread). The virus then tried to contact all my friends on my msn friend list with the same message, spreading it even more.

So be careful if you get a random link saying 'they' found an irl pic of you and to click this link to DL it. What you'll be downloading is an MS-DOS virus which can corrupt windows making it almost impossible to start. I got lucky and restarted my computer manually before it did any serious dmg. But some of my friends (who the virus spreaded to) weren't as lucky.

So be careful.. start running virus scans and spyware scan on your computer just in case. I think I have the virus off the computer now.

yeah I've seen this before.

I got a virus via AIM this way last year...I think you can download a program from jayloden..or something. Google it, and it should fix your AIM problems.

(AIM is a huge gateway to virus's imo)

I laugh when I get those, because I get them from several people, and I always know what they are.

I think the file that you download is called 'MSYNC.exe' so if you can search for that file.. and delete it.. and do some virus/security scanning.. i think you're ok.

The other thing that happened when i had the virus is... that if i start up msn messenger again.. my default web browser would go crazy. Popping up ten million windows and freezing your computer with you being able to do nothing about it.. Not even use your keyboard or mouse.

I went into msconfig and unchecked the file (which isn't even on my laptop or other computer in the house) and restarted to see if windows would work fine... it did and so i deleted the file.
