Volcano vs. Lightning pics

Ok this kinda stuff always blows my mind, apparently lightning has consistently struck volcanoes when they erupt. An anomaly that has been well documented but man I find this stuff breath taking.


This shot is sick how it wraps around the plume from the volcano like that.

Lightning in this pic looks like its sizing up the volcano lol.

And this one just looks amazing though it's not lightning attacking a volcano eruption.

I made the first one my desktop image =P.

Oh that first pic, if you look in the back ground you can see Mount Doom. Actually after 9,000 years of silence, Chile's Chaitén volcano (pictured on May 3) erupted and thats what that is.

Lightning is a very common feature of volcanic eruptions because the air is extremely ionized.

That shot is the coolest of the three imo.
