The upcoming version update will see a section of the long-awaited Walk of Echoes area opened for access. There, adventurers will find thrilling new battlefields tailored to pose a challenge to seasoned veterans.

The Walk of Echoes

At the behest of a certain moogle of dubious origin and purpose, brave and trusting adventurers shall step forth into a realm forgotten by time. Upon arrival, they will encounter gateways to myriad battlefields wherein fearsome adversaries lie in wait. Conquer each battlefield in succession, and the opportunity to square off against mightier foes and reap richer rewards shall be granted to you.

The Rules of Engagement

To facilitate ease of access, the development team has omitted from the Walk of Echoes the need to lay claim to battlefields. Even if a battle has already been joined, it is possible for other adventurers to step in midway and lend their sword arms to the struggle, so long as the participant limit permits. Moreover, in the same vein as battles waged in Besieged and Campaign, enemies are not claimed when engaged by individual combatants. Battlefield participants are encouraged to use this freedom to their strategic advantage in the effort to dispatch the enemy hordes.

Copious Rewards

Materials used in the synthesis of all-new equipment level 76 and beyond form but a small part of the veritable treasure trove of items that awaits dauntless adventurers. Furthermore, ample opportunities to obtain a share of the spoils have been made available as follows:
- All battlefield participants may cast lots upon items dropped by monsters.
- Vanquishing all foes within the allotted time will produce a treasure chest, and only those participants whose contribution to the battle was deemed satisfactory will be granted the right to cast lots upon the contents.
- Highly evaluated combatants will be further rewarded with bounty befitting their standing.

*To enjoy the battle content offered in the Walk of Echoes, players must be level 70 or above and have progressed to the "Cait Sith" mission of the Wings of the Goddess expansion.

Hmm. Guess I'll have to try to see if it is worthwhile. It sounds exceptionally frustrating, since anyone and everyone will be able to enter and effectively ninja-lot one's hard work.

inb4 AFK lot-bots destroy all fun in Walk of Echoes. Hopefully one will be able to MPK with ease, until Squeenix comes up with a better way to handle it.

looks like fun but I could see item wars going on if lots of cool junk drops.

One can imagine a few ways in which they could alleviate the potential for rampant abuse in this system.

Hopefully SE thought of them too.

I'm also going to need to reserve judgment until I see the idea in practice. From the description, it sounds like the worst possible way of handling things. Like a Dynamis where the entire server has access to the hourglasses, combined with a campaign where 3078563 people are trying to lot on 10 items in a treasure pool, with no way to fairly distribute who gets what. Sounds super.

Take the worst aspects of all of the current end-game activities, put them in a blender, and out pops Walk of Echoes! Thrill as you arrive in time to see that the participant limit has been reached! Marvel as the guy sitting around watching his Party of Five DVD outlots you on all the cool shit while you do all the work! Be amazed as some idiot with 6 mobs runs over and attacks yours too, causing all of the mobs to pounce on you after he dies!

Yeah I agree, after so many updates that were full of win, we get this one that totally sucks balls? wtf SE wtf?

Maybe that's why it's named accordingly. An echo of all the same shit we put up with for years, rolled into a single walk....

I'll reserve judgment until I've seen it for myself, which won't happen for about a week after it comes out, actually, but still. Going on vacation without a PC makes me seriously consider investing in a decent gaming laptop, but that's a bad habit to get into .

Anyhoo.

Like I said, there are wide variety of ways in which they could alleviate potential abuse of the system, but we'll see if they've included any of them.
